Nick and the crew at Northern Light are a class act, full-on local surfers, fun to be with on land and sea. Ed Barbera, the live-in shaper and legend, shapes ecstatic boards to ride. I purchased a pre-fab 7’2″ thruster in July, in prep for the fall, and I am so stoked on it. Glass job is great, shape is flawless– and perfect for my 6’1″ frame. As good as it gets.

The best Surf shop I have ever been to! Nick is a class act. Never makes you feel like you should be out there surfing. Very encouraging and extremely knowledgable staff. Ed will fix or shape all your board needs! Dont know what we’d do without Able either! All the staff is awesome. I ave been to shops all up and down the California Coast and this is by far the most stoked shop in the state! Thanks for being there Y’all!

Hardcore surf shop. Excellent, knowledgeable staff, they’ll get you in the right board for how you surf. If you are from out of town, swing by for some booties, you are going to need them. Beetle, they have mostly black suits because that’s what we wear here. Suits with colors are like mullets. Yes, we all had one, but not any more, and they looked lame when we did. You see a LOT of Northern Light t-shirts out there. That’s because us locals know a great thing. Long live Northern Light.

Best local used selection. Cool layout. Rentals. Hotline wetsuits, Barbera in house new surfboard shapings! Good accessories XM leashes. Crew is true to the local flavor and style. Worth the occasional stop in. BICLONGBOARDS– trust me, your longboard is fragile and it sucks compared to my 9’0″ BIC, «El Rojo.»

Incredibly nice people here. Patient. Mellow. Example: I tried on about ¾ of their wetsuits trying to find one that fit AND that I could get out of afterwards. No luck. But the guy working that day(Ben) never seemed to get impatient or discouraged. He finally suggested a guy’s suit– said his gf used one. (Thanks but no. Just for reference, if you’ve got boobs, a butt, or woman-shaped calves then men’s suits = Chafing!) (That’s the star off, and it’s not their fault probably. There are wetsuits for every size shape and style of guy, but about 2 kinds for women, both for anyone under 145 pounds, no matter your height. And what’s up with ONLY black? How are we half-blind surfers supposed to figure out where our buddies are if everyone out there looks like a clumsy ninja? Purple! Blue! Pink! Get a clue, wetsuit manufacturers!) /rant They have a telephone surf report. I don’t remember how often they update it. They sell used boards– occasionally you can get a good deal, I’ve heard. They fix boards(actually they have someone else fix them but the shop handles the drop off & pick up. He does a great job(in my novice opinion) but isn’t as cheap as some other folks. They’re starting to go overboard with the merchandizing but if it keeps them in business I’m all for it. So anyway– Northern Light’s big assets are its great folks and friendly, mellow vibe. Not cheap but I never mind giving them my money, so there you go. Check them out. Especially Ben… mmmm.

This is the definition of a small town, Nor-Cal surf shop. It reminds me of the 26th Avenue Surf Shop in Santa Cruz which MAY not be there anymore. It’s in Bodega, so like everything else, the hours are short, but they’re open by the time you get back from the ocean in the AM, and don’t close until after you pass on your way out in the PM. I’ve started to see their t-shirts and sweatshirts and… logo all over the North Bay lately, which is a good thing… They’re locally owned and run, and it’s one of those shops that while cozy, also has… good vibes. Back to the shop. They have tons of apparel with their logo, and plenty of boardshorts and wetsuits and t-shirts and bracelets and stickers and hemp and sunglasses… and more. The small staff is super-friendly, and once inside you forget you’re in the middle of Bodega.

Classic surf shop: it’s literally a weathered, glorified shack nestled in the adorable town of Bodega, a few minutes from Bodega Bay. A good selection of wetsuits, new and used boards, and the rest of the usual stuff: flip flops, swim suits, board shorts, sunglasses, hemp jewelry, T-shirts, bumper stickers and surf wax. But it also has a bit of that surf magic… These guys are for real. Out front they’re raffling off a surfboard, with the proceeds going to get an injured local surfer back in the water, and the store’s business card lists a free local surf report hotline: 707) 876‑3110.
