Sierra Surf School

Came with some of the UNA BJJ (forest hills) guys and he was awesome… I ddnt take the class but was there with my husband and David was very patient and wanted to make sure the guys were comfortable with the steps… he took time for everyone I highly recommend him.
When you first go into the beac h you see a lot of surf schools around Sierra surf school stood out because he was further away from the high traffic… and in the water there was so much space so you ddnt have to worry about bumping into other students/​surfers

Our instructor was Ted and he was amazing! He had so much patience with me. We basically had a private lesson with him. Our lesson was about 2 hours but we ended it short since I was so exhausted.
When we were back to the orange tent, David, the owner was questioning Ted why we were sitting out and other stuff. I thought that was rude. He was a JERK, which he said himself. He shouldn’t of question his employees in front of customers. NOT COOL.
Once again Ted was AWESOME! I took one star because the owner was being a jerk. Deff take a surfing lesson.

My bachelorette party was a surf lesson with David and Ted, and we had an absolute blast. Within two hours they had half of us (⁴⁄₉) fully standing on our boards. David’s calm, relaxed demeanor and excitement about surfing put me to ease (I have a slight fear of the ocean) and by the end of it I was hooked. He just started this school but I can tell they’ll be successful! I definitely plan to go back and get another lesson.

I don’t usually write reviews here but I thought this guy really deserved it. I’ve been surfing since last summer. I started out with a 9’6″ Longboard for about 2months then traded it in for a 7’6″ I went to the beach 3x/​wk (except the winter time) but never really got to ride on the new board. I had a hard time catching waves and when I did catch them, I kept falling off as soon as I tried to pop up. Last week, I took a 2 hour intermediate private lesson from Dave and he made everything click. We worked on positioning and the bad habits I taught myself and next thing you know, I was up on my board riding almost every wave I went for. I still need to work on turning and a lot more but for the first time I feel like I’m really progressing as a rookie surfer. Can’t wait for the next lesson

David is the best!
I’ve just started learning surfing, and I’m loving it!
Because he is so cheerful and suportetive, I can jump into there without fear .
I tremendously recommend to not only a lesson but also time enjoying surfing with him together!

I just did my first lesson with David, and I highly recommend him. I went for a 2-​hour lesson on a weekday morning at 8am. I suggest doing a weekday, because the water is much less crowded. Also, go early if possible. The waves tend to be better before 10am.
I had never surfed before, so I was starting absolutely from scratch. When I showed up, David was waiting with a board and wetsuit. He asked me my size the day before, so the wetsuit fit like a glove. We spent about 15 – 20 minutes on the beach going over the basics. We practiced doing the «pop up» about a dozen times until I felt pretty comfortable, and then we got in the water.
I was a little nervous, but David didn’t let any time pass. He picked the first wave, got me pointed toward shore, and gave me a little push. I could hear him behind me telling me exactly what to do. Up I went, successfully riding the first wave, and David was cheering me on the entire time. Not every wave went as smoothly as that first one, but he gave me pointers and helped me feel more confident as the lesson went along.
David is trying hard to get his new business off the ground, and I really hope he succeeds. In addition to being an expert surfer, he’s just a really great dude. He is very laid back, super positive, and supportive. I could tell that he was genuinely excited to be a part of my first surfing experience. He didn’t try to sell me anything. He knew I was just there to learn, and he made sure that happened. Highly recommended.
