My experience with Sundance Cabin Rentals from 11÷5÷2015−11÷8÷2015 at Rustic Refuge was absolutely horrible! On the drive into the neighborhood, the road was completely covered with wet leaves. The other family that was driving in with us got stuck on the way down the driveway. The driveway was a steep incline that curved, so much so that from the top of the driveway you can’t even tell that a cabin is there! Once we arrived, we began looking around and we were impressed with the cabin, however, the Wi-Fi was down and we had no cellphone reception. To add to the frustration, the phone at the cabin would only allow for calls to be made to other(706) numbers unless you had a pre-purchased long distance prepaid card! Though I wanted to inform family members of our safe arrival, I was unable to do so. On Friday morning, we decided to leave the cabin to attempt to gain cell reception and to grab a few things. Half-way up the driveway, our Suburban got stuck on the wet leaves which covered the driveway completely. When we reversed, the wet leaves caused us to fishtail and the rear driver’s side of our vehicle fell into a ditch! I had to rush my children out of the vehicle, including my four-month old daughter, and have them sit on the side of the driveway in the wet leaves and fallen limbs until I walked them back down the slippery driveway to the cabin. The vehicle would not budge in drive. If placed in reverse, the vehicle would continue towards multiple trees on an extreme downhill slope! Now, I AMPANICKING! I have no reception, I can’t call for help! I have Progressive Roadside Assistance, but I can’t contact them. One of the individuals in my party hiked all the way to the top of the driveway, a very long way I will add, in order to contact authorities. I began to call the Sundance office only to receive no answer. I left a message. A police officer arrived and his vehicle temporarily got stuck in the leaves. He saw our vehicle, but stated that he was not going to drive down because he did not want to get stuck in the leaves! Take note that at no time during the booking process were we notified that 4-wheel drive would be required! My daughter ran out of the cabin with the cabin phone saying that the office had called back. I spoke to a representative from Sundance whom informed me that an individual by the name of Sam would come and pull our vehicle out of the ditch. I thanked her and trekked back up the driveway to inform the officer to cancel the tow truck that he had dispatched. I began to worry that I would be unable to make it out of the driveway upon checkout. I called the cabin office again and spoke to Barbara. I told her of my concerns and asked if we could be relocated to another cabin. She stated that it would not be possible but she offered to send out the landscape guy to blow all of the leaves off of the driveway. I told her that it would make the issue 95% better and she agreed to send him over. She stated that no one had ever gotten stuck on that driveway. Thirty minutes later, Chuck arrived and pulled our truck out of the ditch. He blew off the entire driveway which took him a total of 15 minutes, quite impressive considering the length and incline of the driveway. However, why was this not done prior to our arrival? We paid over $ 600 for this weekend! I don’t understand why a company would not visit the property to ensure that it was in safe condition for our arrival. Thank goodness no one was hurt! Thirty minutes later, Sam, the manager, arrived. He fixed the Wi-Fi by flipping a switch on the rear of the router. We had attempted to reset it via the button on the front with no luck. With Wi-Fi working, we were able to contact family and let them know that we arrived safely. In conversation, Sam lets us know that he had gotten his truck stuck on that very driveway less than a week before. Funny, because Barbara had just told me that no one had ever gotten stuck there! So, we settle down and try to relax after such a stressful experience. On Sat. morning, I requested a late checkout to leave at 1:00 pm instead of 10:00 am which was granted. Well, Sat. night we started finding small tick-like bugs-4 within 2 hours downstairs near the pool table. Now, I am ready to leave like ASAP! I started packing and moving my things upstairs. While checking for bugs, I found a floss pick-2 inches from the edge under the downstairs bed. Nasty old chip crumbs under the sofa cushions revealed the partial cleaning job. We left before 10:00 am and had to walk to the top of the driveway with the kids while the guys drove the cars up! A neighbor came out and told us that the tow truck was always down there because the company never tells anyone that they need 4-wheel drive! Can you say negligence? I asked Tom for a free night if I purchased one due to the issues, he was not inclined to do so. So, I am inclined to warn others! Never again, I will take my business elsewhere!

I went to Blueridge a couple of weeks ago with my girlfriend, previously i went there with some friends every year. But this time i wanted something a little bit different — read girlfriend ;). And i must say Sundance Cabin Rentals didn’t disappoint, hence me writing this review. Tom was the perfect host and the facilities were excellent. We’ve had a good time and were so satisfied we’re planning to go back a couple of times during the year. So highly recommended!
