We spent the night here & we were VERY happy ! It’ll definitely be our Blowing Rock spot ! It’s clean, large, gorgeous views(from the 3rd story), comfortable bed, decent channels, and PETFRIENDLY despite what other reviews you read might say. I would however NOT go through a booking company to do this for you. You can tell it’s a small family like operation & a pet could get lost in translation. The gal working was incredibly helpful, & very very nice ! The free continental breakfast had many options, and a nice place to sit & eat as well. We definitely loved this place !!! Only«complaint» would be that while the wi-fi is free it is rather slow. I used my data instead; but they do offer you working free wi-fi as advertised. GREATPLACE all around!!!

Find Somewhere Else!!! Pros: Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Beyond that, I unfortunately do not have any further positive comments. There is no phone in the room. Despite advertising that they have free WiFi accessible in all rooms, there was none. We booked this hotel via an online booking system less than 24 hours from our arrival. We saw the forecast was for terrible weather, including snow, ice and high winds. We called within two hours of booking to cancel but no one was in the office. The booking agency attempted to call that evening and the following morning with no response. When we called in the morning we were told if a reservation is made/cancelled within 7 days, we would have to forfeit the entire amount of our stay. So, despite us only holding the reservation for 2 hours, we were not allowed to cancel without losing hundreds of dollars. After giving us a hard time, they did allow us to change our reservation to a different date which brings me to the next issue. They are actually NOT pet friendly despite advertising as such. When we arrived, we parked in front of the office with our two dogs visible in the car. When we checked in we signed their policy that says a $ 250 fine would be assessed if a pet is brought into a non pet friendly room or is a hidden guest. This was fine because we had checked with the booking agency that they were pet friendly and assumed the hotel had put us in a pet friendly room. While we were out to dinner, a note was left on our bed saying«We know that you have a dog in room xxx, which is a non-pet friendly room. I am attaching your reservation confirmation which you signed agreeing that you would not sneak in any pets without our knowledge. Please come see us in the morning to discuss the remainder of your reservation.» When we went to discuss the next morning we found out that they had charged our card $ 250 immediately after leaving the note for us. We were given a copy of a receipt we never signed. We explained to them that we were under the impression they were aware of our dogs and had put us in a pet friendly room and that we did not«sneak» them in. In fact, until that note we did not even know there were non-pet friendly rooms since the hotel is advertised as pet friendly. We even told the girl we spoke with we would be happy to pay the $ 25 per night pet fee and move to one of their pet-friendly rooms. The girl said she had no way to know if we were lying about sneaking the pets in, so they had already charged the fee. We asked to speak to the manager 3 times and were told they were unavailable. I asked for a number to call them and the girl refused to give me one. Finally, she called the manager who said we could wait until 1PM, which was 4 hours later to speak with her. I said we just wanted to leave and not waste anymore of our vacation. The girl told the manager that we wanted to check out early and we could over hear the manager on this phone say, «Well they can leave then.» We were then told we would be charged for the remainder of our stay, even if we left. The girl told me I was«hateful» and we were essentially called liars and sneaks for bringing our dogs. I am not sure what kind of business treats its guests like this, and does not try to work to with them, when clearly there was just a misunderstanding and not an intentional failure to follow rules. I do know this business is not one I will be patronizing again. I believe they have taken enough of my money in exchange for insults and a vacation cut short. Beware!!!

It’s under new management; the bank foreclosed and apparently put a lot of money into refurbishing it and has hired a consultant to run it till it’s sold. She and her son seem to be doing a nice job. We were there three nights including a very busy weekend. Two nights the place was full but we weren’t bothered by noise. We had a very nice room, with likely the best view of any motel in town. It was large(built some years ago when rooms were often larger), convenient(two stages of bathroom with a sink in each), pleasantly decorated and clean. I understand most of the rooms have been refurbished and as of now a few have not. I’d make sure I get one that has been refurbished even though they cost more. Breakfast was«heavy continental» with a lot of cereals and baked goods and boiled eggs. If there’d also been bacon or sausage I’d have been perfectly satisfied. The management was responsive and friendly. And, very important, the wi-fi was good. Full house but it only slowed down once briefly and never stopped. I don’t know that it’s industrial strength but it’s good. For me the bed was too hard but I slept pretty well. My wife liked it. My five is really probably a 4.5 but I think it’s worth the bump because of the reasonable(given the view and crowd in town) rates. It would be easy to drive by it; there’s a smallish sign and a driveway going up; that’s it. You don’t easily see the motel from the street, especially if you’re driving.

If your looking for a luxurious hotel with lots of amenities this might not be the place for you, but if your looking for a unique little inn and want to get a true feeling of being in the mountains this is a great place to stay. This is a 60’s style but has recently been updated. The rooms are clean(we had a pet friendly room with hardwood floors which was nice), inn keeper is extremely friendly and always asked if there was anything else we needed or if he could help with anything and the view from our balcony was great. They have a nice little breakfast(again, nothing luxurious but better than your average continental). The only thing I found a bit strange is that(at least our room) didn’t get a key. You can lock the doors from the inside but no key.
