Steak ‘n Shake is located on the campus of Bloomsburg University, inside the lower floor of the Scranton Commons. If you are not a student, parking regulations are in effect during the day Monday — Friday, but paid meters are available across the street from the University Book Store. Used the entrance along the street, for former students and alumni, this used to be the Italian Kitchen that’s now located in the Kehr Union. They serve a menu of burgers, hot dogs, fries, and milk shakes. Ordering was fast enough, but they do not accept American Express and Discover card. Food was unexpectedly underwhelming. I found the burger a little overdone, the shoestring fries were ok, and the whole meal was fixed with Ketchup. Prices for a combo with a soda were reasonable. If you are not on campus, call ahead for hours as Steak ‘n Shake might not be open if school is closed or on vacation. Steak ‘n Shake is definitely no Five Guys, and it makes me wonder if Aramark should have just ignored the fuss and put in a Chick fil A several years ago.

This is Steak ‘n Shake’s second location in Eastern Pennsylvania(the first is at a service on the PA Turnpike just east of Harrisburg). It is also not a standard Steak ‘n Shake. First off, it is counter service not waitress service. Second, everything comes in a paper bag. So if you are eating in, there will be no silver or dishes like a normal location. And last, they don’t carry the full menu. As a matter of fact, they carry a very limited menu. Luckily for me, they carry the Frisco Melt. You can see the menu at This location has been open for about a month now. I waited for a few weeks to try it out so they could work out the kinks. Well the day I visit is the official«Grand Opening», so I don’t know if that impacted the service. I waited in line at the one register open for about 5 minutes and then waited another 15 minutes for my food. You normally wait about 10 minutes in a regular location with a waitress for your food after ordering. This location is on the campus of Bloomsburg University in Scranton Commons. It has its own entrance from Second Street. It is near the tri-level parking garage so you can get in easily.
