We got to Jems at 12:00, My mother, brother and I were all planning to receive cuts. There was one woman getting her hair cut and one waiting. We waited for 30+ minutes for my brother to finally get started on his cut. It was about 1:30 when he finally finished his cut. And the girls before us were still getting their hair done. When one woman finished she was complaining about her hair so much. My mother was outraged that we had waited 1 hour and 30 minutes+ for one mediocre hair cut when my mom and I still had to go. Also that the woman before us was so upset with her cut. My brothers hair was cut badly too. We left and will never go back!

Took my son here to get a quick cut. It was inexpensive and no fuss which is what I needed that particular day. Prices are fair and service was excellent. Thanks!

I was looking for a good yet inexpensive hair cut place in the Bloomington-Normal area about a year and a half ago. I’m not so much of a number guy as I am a scissors guy, so I’m hesitant about hair dressers using clippers. I figured that I would give Jem’s a go considering it seemed as homie to my hair cutter back at home, and it was amazing. I initially had a now ex-employee cut my hair, which turned about amazing, but went a few more times and had Kristin cut my hair. A year and a half after getting free haircuts from my roommates ex girlfriend, I needed a to get back to the«actually paying» haircut grind, so I went back and had Kristin cut my hair. Not only did she remember me, but she cut my hair exactly the same way a year and a half earlier. She then washed my hair after to get all the excess clipping out for no extra charge. Although I’m about to graduate, I would choose this place hands down. If you’re a college guy that’s hesitant as hell about who cuts their hair and prefers a stylist, come here and ask for Kristin. All staff are laid back and nice, and for a 16 dollar cut and shampoo, I don’t think I could find a better place in town.

One of my dear college friends asked me to be in her bridal party(yay!). The rest of the bridesmaids were gettin’ their hair done at Ulta, but, due to Ulta’s space limitations, I would have had a hair appointment for 11 and had to be ready for pictures at 12. I didn’t think that would have ended well. Enter Jem’s. The stylist I was with all morning(I THINK her name was Mary?) was AWESOME. I showed her the style I wanted(low, side bun… kinda messy) and she was able to recreate in under an hour. She curled ALL my hair(I have a lot of it) and worked her magic to form it into a pretty low bun. For my makeup, she put on some great dark purple-ish eye shadow to match my nail polish and kept the rest pretty simple, yet classy. The hair and make-up lasted through the insane wind and held up pretty well the entire day/night. This was really a great experience as she was pretty funny and had a lot of funny stories to share of her own. Plus, she was able to do a last minute eyebrow/upper lip wax to save me from lookin’ like a hot mess. For the eyebrow and lip wax, up-do and makeup application, the total was $ 85! OMGSTEAL. Definitely check this place out!

In town to attend a wedding and as Mother of the Flower Girl, I take hair very seriously. Checked on Unilocal, looked at their website, and gave Jem’s a call. The outside of the building is nothing special, but inside is well done. Very pleased with their service. I said we needed to be done at 3:30 and they had us done at 3:20. All of the women we dealt with were friendly and helpful and good at hair. My 3 ½ year was treated like a princess and thrilled with her curls for a day. My 8 year old was treated like an adult and thrilled with her up-do. And I was very pleased to have someone else do my hair for the day. We ended up paying $ 115 for three fancy dos(plus tip).(and two of us have very long thick hair) They gave my kids push up popsicles when they were done. Nice touch Jem’s! On another note, the number of bobby pins an eight year old can wear through the metal detector at the local airport without setting off the alarms is somewhere around 30 – 40. We had to take a few out before leaving town the next day!

I stood up in a wedding last weekend and the bride chose Jem’s for the hair and makeup. The ladies at the salon are professional all the way, and definitely willing to go the extra mile or correct something we didn’t like. Everyone’s hair and makeup turned out beautifully for the day, and held up through the 90+ degree temperatures, pictures, and lots of dancing.

I came across this business on Unilocal and am glad I did! I’ve been searching B-N for a place where I’m not just getting a clipper cut but where I’m also not paying $ 25+. I noticed on JEM’s website that they offer haircuts for men starting at $ 17. I called and made an appointment for that afternoon. Kristin gave me a great hair cut and even washed my hair afterward with shampoo and conditioner. I love that because it always seems odd to leave a haircut and have little clippings sprinkling down on you all day. I couldn’t be more pleased with my experience and the overall value.
