I’ve visited the place three times. The restaurant is a good addition to BTown’s eating, especially because of their use of ingredients like tripe and other nasties that the regular American customer is not used to. They have an extensive menu that includes well-known, safe dishes as well. One of their issues is service, which can be haphazard as the place fills up, with one or two waiters running around the tables. The food is greasy and that amount of grease takes away from flavors. It seems to be a mom and pop oeration with much needed help in better quality ingredients and more staff.

This place use to be the standard for authentic Chinese food. But it passed its prime time. I usually have dinners with my family once every week there, but not any more. I did go back once in a while, but finally give up. The usually disk was not the same anymore, maybe the chief left. Lower quality cut of mea, salty, not fresh, too much oil, what happened?

Have been here twice now and decided to go ahead and write a review. First time I went was during the week for lunch. The restaurant was busy and we had the lunch special. It was tasty and I was eager to come back and try another dish. Went back on a Sunday during lunch. The restaurant was empty. Not a great sign, but we decided that it was a fluke. Ordered a noodle dish and chicken with broccoli. No lunch specials on the weekend, which is not a surprise. The noodle dish was bland and the chicken with broccoli was not very good either. Maybe it is a different cook on the weekend? No fortune cookies brought with our check(we did get fortune cookies on our previous visit). Disappointed because we liked this place on our first visit. With so many choices for Chinese food in Bloomington, doubt we will try Best Taste again. Besides the not great food, the interior of the place is just tired and sad looking. Could easily overlook that if the food was better.

Moved recently from the Bay Area and was happy to find this place that is so close to the authentic szechuan places I am used to. Good service and definitely great food.

This is the kind of joint and the kind of menu you find in the Chinatowns of cities like Chicago and San Francisco — not the big places, but the little mom and pop type places. The menu is heavy on exotic-sounding things that Bloomington hasn’t seen before. I hewed to the safe and traditional for my first visit. I started with the won ton soup — a little too salty, but flavorful and obviously all homemade. As a main course, I had the«house chow mein,» which was very tasty. It was basically like what you find as «lo mein» in other Chinese restaurants — spaghetti-style noodles mixed and stir fried in a tasty sauce with chicken, shrimp, beef, and pork. Some difficulties with language, but otherwise the service was fast and very cheerful.

I love their fried fish and many dishes, there have mushrooms, fungus, fish balls, chinese cabbage inside fried fish pan, really delicious and amount is a lot! Enough for even three people

It’s like the most recommended Chinese food in town. And it is authentic, but just not that tasty. Even not as good as what I cook.

The food was really good but they really need to work on their service(although still polite for what little interaction we did have). We split the cucumber smashed garlic appetizer, the egg fried rice, and fried sheep cumin. So much flavor in everything and the food came out quickly and was accurate. However, there was only one other table(of one person) in the restaurant and the only time one of the two people on the floor came to our table was to drop our food off and eventually to handle the bill. The fried sheep had peppers in it and we ran out of drinks pretty quickly but could not get the servers attention to get a refill. Wasn’t super thrilled that the bathroom didn’t have any soap in it and wasn’t the cleanest either, will update later if we get the shits. They would have gotten 5 stars if it was based on food alone. We will try going again sometime but right now I’m having fonder memories of that $ 30’s we just dropped for it than I am the visit.

What a fun big bowl we got to eat! They offer a GIANT bowl of some sort of stirfry for about $ 13(good to feed at least three people). You can add almost any ingredient to this bowl for an extra charge. My favorite dish here is the jellyfish. It might sound unusual, but it was refreshing and delicious.

Went to this place for only once in 2014 and never go back. Their fried fish is not good as the one in Lotus Garden, even though their chef was originally from Lotus Lol Still remembered that this place was popular when I visited in 5pm

Get the Beijing style fish hot pot. Don’t ask questions, just do it. Make it spicy if you’re a fan or go with the oyster sauce if you’re a wuss. Can feed up to 3 or 4 people if you order one or two other sides. Great selection of dishes, but don’t bother eating here if you’re looking for American-style Chinese food. Best Taste is serving up genuine, traditional Chinese food, and you’ll realize that when you look around at the client base. Great spot if you’re dining with a group, but make reservations since the place fills up at peak hours.

There is Chinese food in Bloomington that I think is as close to authentic as you can get, and it is tasty. Order the fried beef in cumin, the eggplant in garlic sauce, the spare ribs with taro, the seafood hot pot(I can’t remember the actual name of the dish), the Dan Dan noodles, the lamb skewers, or the mapo tofu. I’ve eaten more, but these are the dishes that stand out. I have liked almost everything I’ve tried. The fried rice, however, is just standard. There’s nothing special about it, but I’d rather eat steamed rice anyway. And the garlic chicken would be better for me if it wasn’t chopped up skin-on, bone-in chicken thighs. Most of the chicken dishes are prepared that way, though. I’m only giving this place three stars because it’s a little small, the cups and tableware are cheap and a bit worn, and the place itself could use some sprucing. It’s fairly loud when there’s a full crowd, and during those times it’s hard to get the server to come back. These things won’t prevent me from going back though, and they shouldn’t prevent you from trying it out either.

Excellent food rather on the authentic side. Don’t come here expecting to find General Tso’s chicken. The food is delicious and well prepared, using authentic ingredients as much as they are available in Bloomington.

This place is very good! I last visited this joint a couple of months ago as i used to live in Bloomington but now in indy, so am not completely sure of the current situation with a new chef… but in my experiences dining there, I thought it was better than any chinese restaurant in Indianapolis(even sczecuan garden and lucky lou) by a decent margin(minus the dim sum at the indy restaurants, btown needs some dim sum!). With this being said, do not order any Americanized dishes, you will likely be disappointed

went there several months ago when they just opened. many people went for the grilled fish. I heard good news about it but never tried. I ordered Ma Po Tofu, shredded beans, and Di San Xian. Not large portions, and not impressive. Ma Po Tofu was not cooked using the right pepper, taste strange. Shredded beans were good. Di San Xian was okay. I felt like the people who ordered grilled fish got sort of priority…

Pretty solid spot, the Asian food is well made, a bit on the high price side but still worth it if you pick the right dish. I always get the braised pork with seaweed and cabbage. It has great flavor, the pork is definitely a bit small in regards to each piece itself, us Asians prefer more meaty sizes with more fat pieces on top, these are much smaller so that could improve. For $ 12 a dish, this is at max what I would pay, I would say $ 10 is more reasonable, don’t forget to ask for the 10% discount if you pay with cash.

I have been here several times and the food was amazing before! Especially the shrimp! However, recently it seems like they changed the chef or modified their recipes, and the food does not taste as good. In fact, several of my friends told me that the previous chef used to work at Lotus Garden but now he was gone again with his art of cuisine. Sad face.

This is the first restaurant of it’s kind in Bloomington. This is traditional Chinese food cooked amazingly. My wife and I heard very good things about Best Taste from friends of ours, and after a festival at 3rd Street Park we decided to stop in. We were pleased beyond our expectations. I ordered the beef and broccoli and my wife ordered the stir-fried spicy pork. We sat across from each other making yummy noises the entire meal and shared from each others plates. Simply delicious and rivals any Chinese I’ve had in San Fransisco or Chicago. We will be going back again and again. Very happy to have a place so good in Bloomington!

Everything there tastes strange… What I could say is it’s definitely not authentic Sichuan style.

This is by far one of the best restaurants in town(of any genre, but certainly Chinese). They cook up traditional style Sichuanese food that rivals what you’ll find in Chicago or NYC’s Chinatowns. We’ve come here three times and each time was excellent. In fact, one time we were accompanied by Tibetans who said this 100% reminded them of home. Their menu is 8 pages long(front and back!) so you have tons of options to keep you entertained. Prices are very reasonable, portions are great and they take credit card. Each time we’ve come here the place has been filled with Chinese students and scholars, which means this is the real deal. On top of all this, they’re very sweet and provide excellent prompt service. They’re happy to teach you how to say your dish in Mandarin if you’d like. I’m so glad I randomly stumbled in here one day, since I know I’ll be intentionally coming back for years to come.

I think by far one of the best if not the best food places in town and one of the better restaurants overall as far as taste goes. Beware this food is pretty oily. This is the Chinese way I hear though I’ve never had such greasy Asian food.

If you’re looking for the standard fare of breaded and deep-fried food stuffs covered in goopy corn-starchy sauce, Best Taste is NOT for you. They don’t even have the trio of condiments at every table!(duck sauce, mustard, and soy packets). If you’re looking for fresh, vibrant food that is incredibly tasty, then Best Taste is a winner. I’ve been there three times and each dish was incredible! Highly recommend. The dishes are simple, but plentiful. You’ll leave satisfied.

I ordered their baked fish and it tasted great! The portion size is sufficient for two, and you can add anything into it like a hot pot. Definitely recommend!
