Terrific lunch buffet. Everything was fresh, full of flavor. Particularly liked the saag paneer and the chicken tikka masala. Naan is great too.

It used to be way better than it is now. The quality has gotten terrible, you can tell they’re cutting corners. I went in for the lunch buffet, and hardly any of the food was actually edible. The butter chicken was composed of odd pieces of meat and was so full of little bones I couldn’t even keep eating it. The rice was super stale and dry, and all of the curries had hardly any meat and no veggies. Instead of the usual chicken served in Indian restaurants they had barbecue wings(I’m not kidding) as if we wouldn’t be able to tell? On top of all this, when me and friends complained about the quality and lack of food the waiter looked he could care less and didn’t even say sorry or offer any sort of compensation. Never going here again.

I have never tried Indian food before coming to Amrit and now I am hooked! I have tried other Indian restaurants in Bloomington since then and I have been disappointed. I don’t like spicy food, but level 2 is just right on the spicyness scale. It’s just spicy enough to give it flavor. You should order a higher level if you are looking for something very spicy. All of their entrees are good but my favorite is Mixed Vegetables. I’m looking forward to trying more of their entrees!

I came for the buffet as I had good things. I didn’t leave wondering what my friends were thinking. For someone who does eat Indian very often, this may be a good choice. Please note that I am basing my review off of one experience at the buffet. Ordering from the menu may be different. I found the buffet food lukewarm. Compared to other Indian establishments that have buffets at the same price, the selection was very small. I did love their onion chutney… but that was the only stand out item. The food was also so bland. It seemed like every dish tasted the same… but that wasn’t hard when there is no flavor. Did I mention the onion chutney? Oh yeah… that’s because I had to smother my food in it to give it any flavor. Again, this place may be perfect for spice-scaredies and folks wanting to try Indian for the first time. I’m just going to go somewhere spicier.

Excellent food, lamb rogan josh or any saag variant are particularly recommended. If you come for the lunch buffet, be sure to use the Hooked deal to get a $ 6 meal. Service is consistently fast and polite; you never feel like you’re being pressured to leave. I would highly recommend this place as my favorite Indian restaurant in town.

Great food, reasonable prices, large portions, and superb service. We arrived around 6PM on a Friday, got seated immediately and experienced a wonderful Indian meal of keema naan, chicken tiki massala and paleek paneer served with rice. Would have liked the galub jamin for dessert, but we were too full.

Great service with authentic punjabi food. Would definitely recommend Amrit’s. Any day.

Amrit pretty much tastes like what you’d get when you go to an Indian friend’s house and his/her mom decides to make curry for you. Not bad, but it definitely isn’t restaurant quality food. Still, over here where there isn’t much competition in terms of Indian restaurants(I think there are only 3 – 4 in Bloomington) I guess Amrit finds a bit of a niche. The location is great, just off the square in an area gets a ton of foot-traffic. Amrit offers a less hectic atmosphere than the other Indian restaurants around town, but unfortunately the food itself isn’t much improved. This might be a result of being in the Midwest, but they definitely toned down on the spiciness. Curries: 2⁄5 Meats: 1⁄5 Service:1/5 Diversity: 3⁄5 Price: $$/$$$$ Satisfaction:Price– 2⁄5(+1 for having little competition)

I came here for the lunch buffet, which was on the smaller side. The food was good — pretty standard, but good. The stand-out part of eating at Amrit is the service — I was welcomed as soon as I came in, the server kept my water glass full, and I never felt rushed to leave. I noticed that the server provided the same service to all of his tables, which is an art that I can certainly appreciate. Although the food and atmosphere are nothing to write home about, I’ll definitely be returning as a result of the great service.

This place was completely empty on a busy Friday night in the square, which was a little worrisome right off the bat. Knowing that it opened not too long ago, however, we decided to give it a try anyway. The low rating is mainly on account of my butter chicken. While the sauce was tasty enough, the chicken itself was some of the gnarliest I’ve had at a restaurant. Every piece was stringy, utterly dry, and off-tasting in the way that bad chicken can be, not to mention weirdly skinny and small, as if we caught the last scraps of the last chicken in an old shipment or something. The person I was with had the malai kofta — little fried balls of potato and cottage cheese in sauce — which was fine, even if the cheese was more or less imperceptible. The naan, on the other hand, was very good, with plenty of butter. As there was more than enough yummy sauce in which to dunk it, I at least left with a full stomach.

I rarely write reviews but I want to say this is the best Indian food I’ve had in Bloomington in a long time. We ordered it via Mr. Delivery so I can’t speak to servers or restaurant atmosphere. Our order arrived in a timely manner, was conveniently packaged and was hot. We got channa masala, naan, lamb saag, samosas, lemon biryani, riata, and a fried chicken appetizer(I forget what it was called.). Each dish was delicious. My only warning — I selected«regular» as my spice level and these dishes were super spicy for us. I’m not sensitive to spice — I consider myself middle of the road(i don’t seek out scotch bonnets or anything but I do like using hot sauce to kick things up a notch). That being said it was so delicious we ate it anyway. I’ll for sure order food here again — I’m interested in trying the lunch buffet as well.

Tasty food, exactly what I was hoping for: flavorful, classic Indian cuisine. Friendly service too. They were kind to my family.

BUFFETEVERYDAY!!! Warm, yummy Indian cuisine. Love the Tikka Masala. The servers left you alone, which I don’t mind at all.

Being an Indian, I would never recommend you this restaurant. They don’t use fresh food! Any curry you order, they just microwave it. This restaurant not gonna be in town for long.

This was my first time since the place opened and I was very pleased with the new décor as well as the menu options! We had buffet on a Sunday afternoon and arrived shortly after the restaurant opened. The restaurant was spotless and the buffet was fully stocked and very clean. I had the chicken tikka masala, saag with paneer, and vegetable korma. I also made sure to grab an onion and a cauliflower parkoa. They serve regular naan and garlic naan with the buffet. The pakora and the naan were cold. the pakora was also a bit mushy. I think it’s because the containers of pakora were filled very high… and unable to stay warm. I pulled the naan from the bottom of the tray on my second trip but it was still cold. The tikka masala flavor was wonderful and I couldn’t get enough of it. The saag had a bit of tomato sauce in it which is unusual for me but it really helped to brighten the dish. The vegetable korma was a favorite as well. I absolutely love carrot halwa so I was excited to see it here. I think the amount of ghee was a bit excessive. You could see the layer of butter on top. The halwa also did not have cashews or grapes which bummed me out. Despite the amount of ghee it still tasted good but I couldn’t have as much as I wanted since it was so rich. The manager is very friendly and seems excited and passionate about the food he prepares. I look forward to returning and trying some of their main menu items! The list is expansive so it will keep me coming back for quite some time! A buffet for two and a chai came out to less than $ 18 so I think the price is great for what you get!

Visited Amrit today for lunch. Arrived right around noon to a modest restaurant that looked clean and inviting. My girlfriend and I were immediately seated and I inquired whether or not there was a lunch buffet, and how much it was. It was $ 8.99 so we decided to stay and partake. I’m not an expert on Indian food, but I know good food, and this was of the delicious variety. The buffet included the typical Naan(garlic herb and regular), tikka masala, hot & sour soup, chicken tandoori, multiple chutneys, and an average salad bar, amongst a few other dishes I’m missing. Overall, the food was hot, fresh, well-seasoned and replenished in a timely manner. The only complaint I have is with the garlic Naan bread. There was far too too much chopped garlic left on the bread. It was hard to eat this way so I had to scrape some off. Otherwise, it was extremely tasty and hard to put down. Some of the desserts included a milky rice cereal-like dish that was very refreshing, and cheese balls in honey sauce. The cheese ball consistency was a bit too soggy but had a great taste. In terms of service, water was refilled on time, plates weren’t taken away too soon, and we were even asked multiple times how we liked the food. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great, tasty, exotic and affordable lunch at a modest restaurant. My issues are very minor, therefore I’m giving a 5-star rating. I was extremely satisfied with my food and service. I will be back again. Soon.

I’m no authority on authentic Indian food, but I believe firmly in what taste good and Amrit is delicious. They’re naan is killer, so soft and pillowy. I had the paneer pakora and the goat curry, both really yummy and solid dishes. Tried my boyfriends level 5 spice butter chicken, the flavor was on point but it wasn’t that spicy. My chai was really good as well. Service was polite and prompt. I’m looking forward to coming back here.

This restaurant is in Bombay Café’s old location(Roots prior to that) and is different, and owned by different people. Here’s what’s changed: formal dining(real plates and sliverware altho paper napkins), eight booths, as many tables, lunch buffet, no more cafeteria style service. Actual waiters and bus people now. Prices are roughly the same to slightly higher. Is the food as good? Mostly yes. The naan is superlative, and spice levels matched our requests. Portions are larger, and the flavors are really good. I gave the prior location a five because of the food, which was incredibly flavorful, and unique for each dish. Took talent to do this. The old régime wasn’t much on being fancy. The new régime is much fancier and the food is *almost* the same. Really good. Perhaps as good as it gets in Bloomington. Is it a five star? Can’t tell yet. It borders on it, but nothing leaps out at you and says: without question, this merits the very best rating I give. But it’s really, really good. Perhaps it will increase. Nothing to apologize for here at all, just not that last logarithmic step to fame. Update: tried the luncheon buffet. Much less selection, of course, but good flavors– and definitely less spicey. Very fresh, not much in terms of fresh greens, like salad. It’s only $ 3 away from an entre cost at $ 8.99. Pricey, I think. I’d rate it a good value at $ 6.99, given the selections.

Finally a delicious Indian restaurant in Bloomington! This replaced Bombay Café on the square(which I think was Roots before that). They updated the décor to a warm and inviting space and they play Indian music to help get you in the mood. The service is helpful and attentive without being overbearing. My husband grew up in India and said he can’t wait to take his family here the next time they visit. Get a mango lassi and the chicken tikka saag. You won’t regret it!
