I’ve given the local Ace two tries. The first time I had them make keys for my new house. The keys had to be remade 3 times! Then I tried them for a second time having them rescreen my patio screen. When I dropped it off, I was told it would be a week. 2 long holding phone calls and 2 ½ weeks later it was finally ready.

We went in with the intention of asking some questions about paint and getting some primer and samples. There was one man working the paint section who seemed to be doing his best to avoid eye contact with customers. We observed two customers approach the counter who were ignored until they had to call for his attention. He was then extremely short with one gentleman and it gave off a bad enough vibe that we decided to just leave. We’re beginners when it comes to painting on our own and had planned to ask for some advice, but nothing about the way this man was acting made us feel like we’d get kind service here. If management is paying attention you might want to work on customer service training with the paint department. You lost out on quite a large sale as we needed a lot of paint.

The people here are so helpful! As soon as you walk up to the automatic doors and cross the seal of the door they are asking if you are in need of help. Granted there have been instances when they are out of the item or the comparable item is not exactly what I wanted, but the employees get an «A» for effort. After all, they asked & tried. To that end, I always leave with items I do not need or have an immediate use for. I am a sucker for novelty items and huge sales. Guess I will have consider the upside which is I will have it when I need it.(Provided I can find it).

We stopped by Len’s Ace tonight to seek out paint samples and found a great selection near the front of the store. Pleased to see different options in brands and styles. Regrettably, we didn’t quite get the«helpful hardware place» experience that we expected. Admittedly, we know nothing about paint, and Joe(the Ace employee in the paint section) didn’t feel it was worth his time to help us out as we stood in front of samples for a half hour. With just under ten minutes left before closing time, Joe walked past us, turned off the lights to paint section, and said«we’re closing». Looking at my watch, I realized we weren’t getting paint tonight, but figured we still had a few more minutes to grab some last minute items. Instead, Joe repeatedly yelled«We’re closing! The store is closing!» Disgruntled, I grabbed the family and stormed out of there, at 8:55. I hate to offer a bad review based on the attitude of a single employee(past visits have been fine) and I’d like to give Joe the benefit of the doubt, but chances are that we’ll go elsewhere for hardware.

What sets Ace apart from the big-box hardware stores is a combination of knowledge and customer service. While Ace people can sometimes be overzealous when five guys in a row ask you, «Can I help you with anything today?» it is, overall, a good place. The really nice thing is that if you do need help, someone here can usually help you — instead of passing you off to twelve different people, shrugging and saying, «I don’t know, sorry,» and then making you wait while they call over a harassed-looking manager. It’s a nice change.

Len’s always has what I need whether it be a random nail/screw/nut or painting supplies. The people are all friendly and always wanting to help. Prices are higher than the big box stores but you pay for the comfort and service.
