Pretty bad when you walk in on a Father day Sunday at 3:00 pm and told we are closed from 3 to 4:00pm, Right. I will drive across town again some day? they lost 14 people immediately.

Selected Mex for Father’s Day Brunch. The kiddos weren’t too hungry. They just had chips and salsa and guac. The tortilla chips were warm and very crunchy. Excellent. My wife and I had the $ 11 brunch skillet. I would recommend splitting this. Big portion. The service was a little slow, but they were also very busy. Definitely, coming back.

Awesome ambiance, very cool place. Food was average, I had the tacos al pastor and they were not good at all and very small for the price, the salsa is delicious and the ghostbuster margarita(ghost pepper) is amazing! Service was a bit slow. I would go again and not get the tacos total rip off.

This place is a JOKE!!! Call 10 minutes before arrival they say there is no wait. Arrive and while walking in see 8 open tables(I counted) 26+ tops 24 tops and 42 tops!!! They say there’s going to be a 15 minute wait! We were the only ones waiting, so I said what about the 8 open tables I see? She says there’s reservations, so I open opentable and book a reservation for 4 minutes away and am seated immediately! What a joke!

Everything that I have tried here has been delicious! The guac is fabulous! The spaghetti squash appetizer was really good and I don’t like squash. I am a fan of the tacos … you can mix and match from the list of options. Steak, battered cod and shrimp were all yummy. For sides I like the cilantro lime rice but I love the etole(corn). The wait staff are great — friendly and helpful. Went with a friend with several allergies(gluten, soy& dairy) and they were VERY accommodating for her. The sangria is wonderful — I liked the white sangria best! Lots of margarita options too. My only complaint is that the kitchen is pretty slow. No biggie, but after waiting for a table it’s kind if a bummer to wait a long time for your meal too. I wasn’t in a rush, so it really wasn’t a huge deal but keep it in mind. This isn’t a place to grab a quick bite before heading to the movies. Sit back and enjoy the guac, the company & the fun atmosphere.

It’s the food, stupid! Absolutely tasteless food. This place is a joke for a Mexican food. No flavor to the nachos or tacos. If you ask them for spicy sauce, they will point you to a wall with store bought hot sauces. What is even more insulting is food is almost two and a half times OVERPRICED. The drinks are $ 14…for lots of ice and commercial premixes. The décor is amateurish. It takes about 25 minutes to get your food served. Stay away from this place, there are better places to enjoy tastier food.

Went here for dinner and it was about par for the course. I got the three taco(mahi tuna, and 2 beef) meal and thought it was tasty but underwhelming for the price. Adding to the average rating was the long wait times for drinks and food… I don’t think it takes half an hour to make a couple tacos in a premade hard shell… With that said, I think Mex would be an awesome date spot due to the character of the restaurant and the awesome drink menu. Granted, you can order 2 rounds of drinks before your food will come, but at least you have something to talk about with their egg chairs and ornate light fixtures…

I’ve heard so many awesome things about Mex that we finally made the effort to go there and was totally disappointed. Food was bleh, pricey in my opinion and service a bit sketchy. My first experience is that they don’t serve chips/salsa as a free starter. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t knock them for not offering this as part of the experience, but it certainly got things off on the wrong foot. However, we went ahead and ordered the chips & salsa for $ 4 as we were really expecting them. They arrived and were not very appetizing but the salsa’s were fine — one chunky mild other smoky medium. Our dinner options of the Chorizo burrito, Chicken enchiladas, and Beef tamales were pretty decent, but nothing special in terms of quantity or overall quality. When we finally tallied up our meal, we probably paid 20−25% more than our local joint and quite frankly, it is a lot better in quality of food, quantity, and overall service level. Count me disappointed!

The chips and salsa while usually free elsewhere were only $ 4.00 and worth it p, however $ 7.00for a ½ cup of guacamole was horrid. Our fish taco, Cuban taco„ lime rice, and lighter side beans were good. When asked if could get only one taco our waiter waffled and wavered and finally he said he’d ask the chef(like the biggest favor EVER). HOWEVER, UPONDEPARTING in rain downpour asked for a carryout menu BUT after getting in the car found it was a Happy Hour menu. WEWERETHERE During HAPPYHOURANDEVERYTHINGWEORDEREDHADBEENONTHATMENU! OURWAITER, COREY, I THINK, NEVERMENTIONEDTHISANDTHUSOURBILLWASDOUBLEWHATITCOULDHAVEBEEN… INCLUDINGAN $ 8 beer for $ 2. Bill equaled $ 53+. Could have been about $ 24. Of course the waiter got a good tip. BUT, he could have mentioned it was HAPPYHOUR ! Good but soooooo disappointed and felt cheated, ripped off, or at least taken advantage of! Doubt I’d go back. BTW, chips tasted like Whole Foods Homemade in house chips!

The restaurant is visually beautiful. I loved the décor and style. Fun vibes here. We made a reservation and were seated immediately. I loved the everything Guac. Chips were obviously made in house. My strawberry margarita was yummy and not too strong. I ordered the steak tacos with retried beans which were fine. And I only say fine because I’m not a big lover of Mexican food in general, so to some one else it may have been great! We got the chocolate cake at the end too which was good but I personally don’t care for liquor infused in my desserts or cinnamon flavors. Again, that’s just personal taste. But overall this is a nice restaurant and I’m sure anyone who likes trendy Mexican food will love it.

Let’s say our server(doubling) as bartender was the best part of the experience. Otherwise, food was not really better than Qdoba but at $ 60 before tip I would not go back. As others have noted charging for chips, while they were good, is just silly and while the guac was okay it was not worth the price. Our lunch, when it did arrive 40 minutes after we sat down, was so unimpressive. In fact since we sat near the bar my wife had a view to the kitchen and watched as my meal sat under heat lamps for 15+ minutes. When we mention this to the expediter who brought the food he claimed it must have been another order when pressed by my wife that she watched the whole time he responded, «the dish needed to bake more». Fascinating. I will repeat the only good part was Alissa our server. The uninterested hostess didn’t even bother to look up from her phone as we left to say thanks for coming in. Next time we will make the drive to Southwest Detroit.

My boyfriend and I went here for dinner yesterday and I was really impressed with the interior — cool decorations! I ordered the house lemonade which was delicious. We also ordered chips and guac. The guac was good(avocados can’t disappoint) but the chips tasted sort of burnt and were VERY greasy. We proceeded to order tacos(mixed and matched). I got the steak and chicken tacos. Steak taco was good but not worth a total of $ 8 for one taco. Chicken taco was very greasy, I don’t think they trim the fat off their chicken thighs. Taco shells were also burnt /greasy. I think the tortillas they order or make are too thick so in the end it gets greasy and has a burnt flavor. The refried beans were average. All in all my boyfriend described it as «meh» Not worth $ 8 a «meh» taco though. Our waitress was very nice and checked on us regularly so I’ll give it 3 stars.

The chips, which you have to pay for, are the worst we’ve had — even compared to free. We wanted to say something to the wait staffed to get a fresh order, but they apparently were understaffed. The other food was just bad, unless Taco Bell is offered. Then, it’s about even. Nice location, nice building, strange ambience, pretty bad food for the price. And incredibly poor service. I’m still not sure why we paid for someone else’s order. We wanted to complain, but no one was around enough even though the restaurant was only half full. You should keep driving.(They bagged our other food, but didn’t consider the chips we bought, although we would have left them at the table because they were so stale. Perhaps they knew this, which is why they didn’t consider bagging it.)

This is a busy place. We came once before for lunch. Try the Skinny Menu! It’s low only on calories. The chips and salsa & guac are a must. It’s trendy inside and the menu offers some standard Mexican fare as well as some creative new plates. Kids loved it. Saw lots of couples, groups, families. It’s a happening place with a very decent menu. Didn’t try the desserts. Get a cute unique water bottle for your table with the stopper — all part of the unique charm this place has. The Happy Hour menu is well priced and good! Unbelievably so.

I wish I owned a time machine so I could go back about two hours and never come to this place. I ordered lettuce wraps and was greeted by fried toquitos wrapped in limp, greasy lettuce. And the meat inside was absolutely disgusting. Not to mention, the chicken tasted foul. If your chicken is garbage, you’ve lost my business forever. I don’t get all of the hype about this place. I hear that it’s super busy but I’m shocked that people keep coming back with such low quality food served. Management should really take a good look at their kitchen and improve quickly. Until then, I’ll never be back. Ambiance was cool. So 2 stars.

The décor is quite eclectic. It seems like they were trying really hard to go for something trendy, but all I could think about was Alice in Wonderland… The tables are FAR too close together. I couldn’t hear the boyfriend across the table from me, because the group of Bloomfield soccer moms next to me were whining about their seasonal Starbucks drinks, lack of available Costco parking spaces, and their children’s food-additive allergies. It only got worse when they opened up the windows. These moms were now competing with traffic noise and I was competing with the clock to get out. Unlike every Mexican restaurant I’ve ever been to, chips & salsa are not complimentary. Kind of a bummer because 4 bucks for mediocre salsa and 7 bucks for a sad guac doesn’t really get you excited about the rest your meal to come. The service was friendly and knowledgable, but extreeeeeeeemely slow. I felt like I could have walked across the street to Trader Joe’s and made my entire meal in the time it took just the chips and salsa to reach our table. If you are in a hurry, or have somewhere to be, this is not the place for you. Once it came out, the food was better than expected. I wish I could rate the food separately from the rest of my experience. I got the pollo asado tacos with«hot sauce»(not at all hot) and they were delicious. The side of cilantro-lime rice was okay, but man, those tacos. Two seemed to be enough… but only because we had filled ourselves up on chips and salsa during that long wait. I don’t think I’ll be back.

Not the«Bloomfield Experience» I was hoping for. We were greeted by a waiter by him calling us «bro» and«killer». He clearly did not understand the fundamentals of good service as it seemed he forgot to send almost everything we ordered to the kitchen or the bar. It took nearly 20 min. to get out drinks and over 1 ½ hours to get out entrees. I even went up to the hostess and the manager(or so I thought) to let them know of the delay. No one came up to the table to apologize or anything and we saw the server the most when he was collecting our money. The food was highly overrated Mexican and overpriced. Save your time and spend your money somewhere else.

the jalapeño vinegartte is no joke, throw some heat on that salad ! Lunch — there is a skinny menu which I totally respect, it provides calorie counts and could even be considered to suffice for a full menu! the options are plentiful and diverse. I went with the $ 9.90 all you want toppings salad option — my salad was bright colorful and full of life, there are protein add ons that cost a tiny bit more. The spaghetti squash is out of this world, it is so warm it heats up your soul and stomach! Christie provided wonderful service. Parking is free and pretty available I was excited that Mex serves Cava !

Great food, fun atmosphere, and solid drinks. Though I’ve never tried personally, their cocktails are a crowd favorite, and they have fun names to boot. My first time here was actually for a company gathering, and during that time, I got a chance to sample a pretty wide range of food. Tried the kale salad, fish tacos, fajita bowl, chicken quesadilla, and the two desserts: tres leches cake, and fried ice cream. During that time, I liked everything, but felt the kale salad was a little too heavily dressed for my liking. Since Husband and I have similar taste buds and we had been wanting to try Mex for the longest time together, we returned shortly after my first visit. It was on New Year’s Eve, and we were with two other friends who were skeptical with this modern take on Mexican food. Because of that, we didn’t come here for dinner, but instead, just had dessert(which I don’t have a problem with because they are DELICIOUS). Husband couldn’t resist trying their fish taco because I raved about them, so he ordered one and was super happy. Subsequent visits were a mixture of lunch and brunch, and we really enjoyed their brunch. The Huevos Rancheros plate is very beautifully composed with the salsa arbol and beans and cilantro-lime rice. It is a very large portion for one person, and very good. For those who are apprehensive about spice, Mex’s food is not spicy at all, but just the right amount of heat to bring out the flavors. We prefer a bolder spice level, so we add on top of it, but the existing sauce mixture is manageable for everybody. So, after all these repeated visits, here is what i recommend you to get: 1. Chips and salsa(Arbol XX and salsa verde) 2. Guacamole 3. Fish tacos(if you’re sensitive to spicy peanuts, ask your server to omit them, but please don’t omit the slaw out; it pairs wonderfully with the grilled mahi mahi fish) 4. Huevos Rancheros 5. Tres Leches cake 6. Fried Ice Cream We haven’t been here for happy hour, but I am guessing that it is a fun time. They also offer low tops and high tops. We love the high tops, and the covered patio area is nice and roomy. Bottom line — if you’re into a more refined and upscale version of Mexican food, you will enjoy Mex. We certainly do, and will continue to be regular patrons! :)
