Great place very informative, staff is helpful, always seem to get you right in for an appointment. Glasses selection… great. Definitely our family eye doctor ;-)

Called Saturday morning. They were able to see me within an hour an a half. Appointment took 2 hours. Sticker shock when my contact prescription went from $ 51 to $ 104 because of my stigmatism. «I didn’t want to tell you how much it might be because then you might not get it». No problem paying for it. Doctor was awesome and made sure I ended up with the correct prescription. Just don’t lie to me. Would go again. Would recommend to a friend.

This is all based on how the receptionist treated me. I called and spoke with a woman that was very helpful when I was making appts for the 5 people in my family. However, when I called back to reschedule because my daughter was going out of town that Saturday, she told me No, she would not reschedule my whole family. I was so confused and was just like ‘huh?” She says I can’t reschedule your whole family — we just lost a whole morning! She had so much attitude. Then she says she can only schedule two at a time now. Still confused, I just told her I would call back then. After we hung up, I got so mad thinking about her snotty attitude. I just got more and more angry. Then it dawned on me… I would have called back and let them know that 4 of us could come in and that I could just bring my daughter in another weekend. But after the tone of her voice and condescending attitude, screw her and that doctor’s office! I will find another place to take my family. Who does she think she is, the only office in the state? Hell no! I understand her complaint, But is it that bad? First of all, doctors always over schedule in case of cancelation. Second, she can always start calling other patients and asking if they want to come in early. Third, I didn’t call the day of, or even the day before but THREE days in advance. BUT there is no excuse to be rude… EVER. She just shot herself in the foot and lost the doctor FIVE new patients! FIVE! So in reality, she just hurt the doc cuz it’s no skin off my back. On top of that, she lost the doc new patients with good insurance who have no problem spending good money on quality frames. So we would have came out of some real money. So anyway, I just want it to be know that that girl is messing up Dr. August’s practice. If I were him, I’d have to speak with her about it, at the very least… And for the record, my mother in law has been going there for years. She says Dr. August is the sweetest guy! So, it would have been nice to meet him. Too bad receptionist ruined it! And she confirms that one of the girls in the office has a serious«stuck up» attitude problem…

I could not be happier with my visit to Dr. Barry P. August! I was a new client and I found him through Unilocal. It was close to my house which was a big bonus. Even better was the fact that I called around Wednesday, to get a Saturday appointment and they got me in that very week. Seeing I work downtown and I am about to move across the country my time is limited, so I really appreciated it. Oh, and they assured me that my purchase would be ready in time for my move in a few weeks. The office is located off of Opdyke in the Bloomfield Hills Shopping Center(Hollywood Market). I didn’t even know it was there. They had a pretty good selection too! Burberry, Bebe, Coach, Anne Klein, Ray Ban, Ralph Lauren, Versache, DKNY, Lafont… Also, right now the second pair of frames are half off. And the staff, especially Rachel, were extremely helpful and patient as I tried on 99 percent of their sunglass frame inventory! I am not kidding. She even had random knowledge, like these are the frames Rihanna was going to have made into sunglasses… love that kind of stuff!!! The doctor was very nice and very thorough. He paid particular attention to the fact that macular holes and macular degeneration run in my family. He ran tests I have never even heard of before. I had a field tests which records your eye as you click a buzzer every time you see a light. I believe it tests your peripheral vision. I had my eyes dialted and the fun glaucoma poof(sharp blast, more like it) of air straight to the eye ball. I thought it was really cool when he photographed the back of my eye and saved it to his computer to compare in the future. He showed me my macular region and confirmed that my eyes were healthy and I did not need to worry. I thought it was weird when my last eye doctor changed my prescription, as my prescription had not changed in years, maybe even a decade. However, Dr. August prescribed me at my old prescription, which seems to aide in my vision. He also removed the astigmatism, which greatly helped! I have been rather bummed for the last year, because every time I wore contacts my eyes would turn beat red. It was the reason why I went to the eye doctor(not Dr. August, wish I did go to him) before. However, that doctor had no advice really, and I ended up just not wearing them. Dr. August suggested I switch to daily disposables, which are particularly good for sensitive and allergy eyes. It totally makes sense. No build up to irritate my eyes. Just wear and toss… no nasty contact cases or messing with solution that may people have reactions to. And he gave me 10 pairs to take home prior to my glasses, contacts, and sunglasses arrived. Very nice. He also hooked me up with rebates. Basically, for about 50 dollars more you get double the contacts. I am still wearing them four hours later and my eyes feel great! Oh, and if I do not use all the contacts and my prescription changes, he will switch out the contacts for me at my next visit. Also, they had no issue with me bringing my own frames and just purchasing the lenses. They even really liked my Badgley Mischkas! I am so excited to get them!!! They are stunning(please read my Sama, Beverly Hills, CA review). So, for $ 810.00 I got lenses for my Badgley Mischka eyeglasses, six months of daily disposable contacts, and Burberry sunglasses with polarized lenses. Staff told me that the lenses without polarization fade. That is cheaper than the original price of my Badgely Mischka frames! Score!!! PLUS I have 75 dollars in rebates! They even gave me an extra receipt for my health savings account and for the rebate. I cannot wait to pick up my glasses!!! I HIGHLY recommend.

While Dr. August is approachable, his office staff needs some distinct upgrading. 1. We were told our glasses would be available in 1 week. It took 2. 2. We would not have even known if our glasses were available; they didn’t call us — we had to call them. 3. When mine were finally delivered, they were the WRONG prescription. 4. To make matters even worse, they completely ignored my request that they call me on my cell phone to tell me how they were going to fix this issue, and in what timeframe. Instead they left a message on our home machine(ignoring 3 emails and a voicemail that specifically asked them to call on cell phone). 5. They acknowledged their mistake, but didn’t even offer an apology(a simple«we are sorry» goes a long way). Customer service training is in order here. Avoid this place if you can.
