Their food is good, but their service is terrible. Would be worth it for cheap food and bad service, but not worth the price to also have bad service. Carry out is not convenient and always leaves you waiting at least 30 minutes, even after arriving after the 35 – 45 minute timeframe given.

Awesome atmosphere, delicious pizza, all the beers. And our server was great! In the spring it will be awesome to go back for the outdoor seating. Great addition to downtown!

Seriously people. This place is fun! I have no idea why it has an overall 3 star. We had the Holy Shitake and the Buffalo chicken with an appetizer of cheesy bread. The app disappeared very fast! I do recommend considering a salad or something other than a bread app since the pizza has the same dough. My kids and I loved the bread though. Make sure you like truffle oil if you get the mushroom pizza. Very good. Even my husband loved it who doesn’t like mushroom pizza usually! Read the reviews on trip advisor too before you go. People will tell you what to order that’s the best! And, it’s not fast. it’s fun. If you go, you will wait about 40 minutes for pizza. Turn off your cell phones, order an app and talk to your people… enjoy the wait. It’s a cute restaurant! We’re lucky to have a place like this in town.

If you get anything other than pizza, it’s not good. But if you get pizza it’s great! Definitely over priced for what it is but delicious none the less.

MM has good pizza although I prefer a thinner crust. Crust tastes good, sauce is very good. Beer selection is wide with many in tap. A good place for a filling lunch.

Excellent service and family-friendly atmosphere. My favorite pizza is the Kosmic Karma(veggie pizza). I had the Mega Veggie and Thai pizzas today, and both were decent. I would recommend this place if you want to try some fluffy, pizzas with interesting flavors. On Wednesdays after 8pm, they have half off appetizers! Go for the spinach and artichoke dip. It’s delicious.

I walked into this establishment with low expectations, but I ate my own words after I tried the pizza I ordered. From the moment I walked in with a large group, our server treated us like real human beings and constantly smiled and helped us out. I haven’t had such great service in a really long time! Also, his mushroom art(not that kind of mushroom, get your mind out of the gutter) was superb. The food was also amazing. The pizza was flavorful with just the right balance of sauce to toppings. When there was a pizza with *almost* everything you wanted, adding an extra topping was painless and relatively inexpensive. The crust was crunchy, but not burnt– as it should be! Needless to say, it was delicious. To drink, I ordered some IPAs they had on draft and was not disappointed by their selection of draft beers overall. I’m very impressed. And thank you to the server– I didn’t catch your name, but damn it, you are awesome and I wish you much luck on visiting Hawaii(or maybe Costa Rica) very soon!

Whole bunch of taps but pretty safe selections. Would like to see more risk in the rotating taps. Nice pizza, but at the price it should be. I have been before and will be back, but this chain could be so much better with just a few tweaks. Of course, with lines at most franchises, who cares about my opinion?

I love Mellow Mushrooms everywhere so I’ll always give the pizza a 4*. However, this location has a never-ending wait that makes it annoying; I have never gone there, students or not, week night or weekend and not waited for at least 30 minutes and usually 45 – 1.5 for a table. The pizza takes forever, but I hope this is something they perfect over time and as they do, I hope the wait time shortens just a little. Otherwise, the GM is super cool, the pizza is great, and I’m glad it’s in our town.

I visited Mellow Mushroom on January 17th and I never need to visit Mellow Mushroom again. My girlfriend and her friends wanted to go, so I said sure. I was in town visiting from Arlington and love trying new places in Blacksburg. There were 7 of us on the reservation that evening. The girl who booked the reservation received a message that her table was about to be ready, so we all rushed to get to the restaurant. Once we got there, we waited another 20+ minutes to be seated. One might think that 20+ minutes isn’t that bad(even if you had a reservation). To be honest, I didn’t think it was that bad either, but the night got worse. I will just quickly bullet everything to save everyone’s time. * The waiter was a young male(likely in his 20s). He was working way too hard for his tips. He took being friendly to a new level. Not nice friendly, but clearly wanting more money friendly. * The waiter instructed us to order appetizers(there was a 30 minute wait for pizzas). The table was completely ok with this suggestion and everyone ordered the Pretzels. The pretzels came out no more than 5 minutes before the pizza. The waiter should have told us that the pretzels also had a long wait time. * I spent 15 minutes waiting for a beer. It was only after I reminded the waiter that I received my beer. * The pizza was absolutely disgusting. My girlfriend and I decided to split the white pizza. I apologize that I do not remember the name. The pizza was to have sun dried tomatoes. If you look at the attached image, these do not look like sun dried tomatoes. I was thoroughly disappointed. After picking off all the tomatoes, the pizza was still not good. I will update this review once I receive input from the rest of my party. I would not recommend this to anyone in Blacksburg. I know there are slim pickings, but there are much better options for food. I would consider giving it a second chance, but I am not sure that they can recover.

Two of the three times we ordered here the crust took over most of the pizza and the toppings were concentrated in the center. Sad. Long wait + too expensive. Don’t even think about the hoagies. I had the one with shrimp and there was no sauce. it was dry bread + dry shrimp. No flavor, no moisture. Not worth it.

Tried to get a table before, the hour plus wait was not the problem, the 15 mins and counting to get a beer at the bar was, so we left. We came on a Tuesday night so we sat with our big group. Beer list is by far largest in area but dominated by uninteresting high alcohol choices. I was driving and wanted something less than 5% so I ordered a Bitter American … Waitress took the order but came back a little later saying the keg was just switched out. OK. Ended up getting a higher abv beer which was good. I tried 3 different pizzas; the shitake was excellent(had some sort of mayo on it that put me off but the overall flavor was nice), Kosmic not so much, and another(forget name) was good. Pizza was very expensive but well cooked. Ceasar was quite nice. Main negative for me is the beer list. How can you have such a long list without having much interesting? No sour beers of interest, no interesting hopburst true session beers(they had Founders All Day, but I can get that in Kroger) no Berliner weiss style, no Pilsner Urquell or Budvar on tap. They had the AV Gose, but other bar(s) in town do too. I thought this was supposed to be a craft beer mecca. Not so much.

I really, really wanted this place to be awesome. The décor is funky, the menu looks awesome, and there’s definitely a hole in the gourmet pizza niche in Blacksburg. I’ll visit again, because I haven’t given up hope that maybe my greasy, overly soggy, bland Kosmic Karma take-out pizza was a fluke.

I can only speak to their carry-out, but it was delicious. We’ve ordered the Funky Q. chicken twice, in two different sizes. The small’s dough was thick but baked through. The larger one was the best although a very bready crust, it’s still a delicious crust. My husband said the second time we ordered it was better, but I thought they tasted the same. We also ordered a cheese pizza which I thought was better than Sal’s, sorry Sal’s. We added fresh mozzarella. While not a cheap pizza compared to Dominos, definitely has a thicker, heartier flavor. They have quite the draft beer selection so I hope to dine in sometime. This pizza is the best around and the pizza toppings options like tofu or Shitake mushroom aren’t something you’ll find a lot of in the NRV. I have to refrain from ordering it too frequently otherwise my pants won’t fit. Update: We continue to order carry out here, but as another reviewer noted, the pizza has been very crust-heavy with toppings in the center. I’d appreciate a more even placement of pizza topping across the pizza, but the flavors are still great.

Yes the wait is long, but we definitely expected it. What else do you expect from a new restaurant opening in Blacksburg? We put our name on the wait list and they texted us when our table was ready, which was nice because it gave us a chance to do what we needed to do and once our table was ready, we had about 10 minutes to get there. Once we arrived, our beer, appetizers and pizza came out in a timely manner. Awesome beer list! When we got our food, I accidentally dropped a slice of pizza on the ground and the manager saw and brought me an entire free pizza when our check came out even though dropping the pizza was my fault! The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because the host on the phone was not very nice when I had called to ask about the waiting list and the phone line was busy for about 10 minutes before it finally went through.

I love me some Mellow Mushroom. I’ve been to many locations up and down the East Coast and I have to say… This is by far the worst. And bad Mellow is hard to come by. Pros– Friendly staff and silly pizza throwers. We came in on a quiet night and they were singing and dancing in the kitchens. Unique steampunk theme through out. Cons– My favorite Magic Mushroom soup was luke warm, gritty and sour tasting. It was full of sad. :( My Cosmic pizza was thick crusted, over loaded with toppings and cheese in the center and raw dough… yes you heard me… raw dough! I left ¾ of the pizza! Recommendations: Staff need to be shown how to toss a thin pizza crust and make the food up to Mellow Mushroom standards. I left hungry and disappointed.

First, the praise. Fantastic food, excellent beer selection. I was highly satisfied with what came out of the kitchen. When it finally came out. When we placed out order for 2 pizzas, our waiter told us to expect 30 minute wait. After over an hour, the food we ordered shows up. This while we watch 3 other tables near by who where seated after us receive their food. The manager tried to placate us with a free order of cheesy bread & a free beer. I didn’t want this, I only wanted what I ordered. The manager, when asked, never addressed the issue. Moral of the story: treat people fairly & with honesty.

Kitchen is Slow. Saturday 11⁄8. Arrived at 4:45PM. Seated outside. Had to go in and remind them we were here. Placed order at 5PM. Still no food by 6PM. Kitchen efficiency is terrible. I would not return to Dine in for months until they get things worked out. Only order take out.

Usually I hate chain restaurants, but I’ll make an exception for Mellow Mushroom. For starters the inside of all mellow mushrooms are awesome, they have the weirdest decorations. Tonight was my second time at the mellow mushroom in Blacksburg and it did not disappoint at all. The wait was 45 minutes, but that’s exactly what I was expecting because it just opened. They have a texting system for waiting which is great because I can just go home for a half hour and come back. Don’t wait to get a text to come back though! They give away tables pretty fast if you don’t come back in time. Or you can just go to the bar to wait, they have so many beers on tap, which would be awesome if I liked beer better, I’m working on it though. Pizza… The best part. The crust is exactly like I like it, super fluffy, and they cover it in Parmesan, who doesn’t love Parmesan. I’ve tried the Thai dye, the buffalo chicken and the funky q chicken. The buffalo chicken is my favorite because buffalo chicken anything is my favorite. But I really likes the other two as well. The cucumbers on the Thai dye gave the pizza a fresh flavor and the funky q chicken was delish as well. I don’t think you can go wrong with any choice here, maybe if you get cheese pizza, that would be dumb though. Once all the workers are a little more experienced I’m sure everything will be perfected and I’ll change this to a 5!

We stopped by on Saturday night…1hr 45 min wait-we didn’t wait. We came back on Monday night around 6:30pm we were told there is 40min wait. We waited… we were seated 55mins later. We started out with some cheese bread & stuffed portobello mushroom. The cheese bread was your basic nothing special. The stuffed portobello mushroom was stuffed with artichoke hearts, feta cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach and mozzarella. Served on a bed of spring mix. There was way to much cheese on topped of the mushroom the other ingredients didn’t really come together. We ordered 2 pizza. The first, holy shiitake pie with olive oil, garlic base, shiitake & portobello mushrooms, caramelized onions, mozzarella, garnish with fresh chives and shaved parmesan. The second, Thai Dye pizza with olive oil, grilled curry chicken, cheese, roma tomatoes, onions. Topped with fresh basil, cucumbers and a swirl of sweet Thai chili sauce. The chicken curry was way to sweet for our taste. The supposedly swirl of sweet Thai chili tasted like mayonnaise. Totally put off by the Thai Dye. Well, we came, we tried, we’l stick to the Cellar &PK’s.
