Mocha Mouse is great! We camped in Black River Falls over the weekend and had to dodge some rain Saturday morning. Cooking over a fire wasn’t going to be an option so we checked out Mocha Mouse for breakfast. I had a Mocha with a shot of Kahlua and a breakfast wrap. The mocha was about the best way I can imagine starting a day.(Especially with that extra little treat in there!) The wrap was huge and really tasty. What I loved even more than the breakfast was everything Wisconsin available for purchase in there. So many Wisco wines and craft beers to choose from. The chocolates, jams, and baked goods were great, too! Also a used book store upstairs that is worth looking at. I will definitely stop in again if in the area. I highly recommend this place!

Recently arrived here on assignment until August and I’ve found my absolute favorite place to eat! The beer cheese soup is AMAZING! EVERYTHING here is amazing! Don’t be fooled by the outward appearance of the building, it’s rustic, but the inside is most quaint and delightful! Each entrée is hand made with care and it is apparent with each bite! The drinks here are over the top! Honestly, this is the BEST place to eat in BRF! They also have great options if you are watching your figure! We will definitely make this a staple in our«diet»…YUMMMM!!! Service is also great! All around GREATPLACE!!!

Decided to make a lunch pit stop on the way home. Wonderful small business with incredible service, and even better food. They’re great here. Can’t wait till the next time I’m coming through the area.

This is one of those places I just had a hunch would be great and they definitely didn’t disappoint. Just happened to be getting gas at the gas station next door and was in need of a coffee. Living up to their Wisconsin heritage they had an amazing selection of cheese and picked up some extra sharp cheddar that had been aged four years. Wife and I loved it. Also grabbed a raspberry latte that might have been the best latte I’ve ever had and I know my wife felt the same way. Great place and they seemed to have a good selection of beer and booze too.

We were up early and ready to hit the road. However, one must get a good breakfast before getting back to one’s big journey. Right next to our campground is Mocha Mouse. Cutely named we just had to give it a go. Walking in you notice all the different local goods for sale but then you can’t help notice all the mice that’s all around the shelves. Don’t worry, the mice were just figures used to decorate the place going along with the theme set by the name of the restaurant. Most of them from the animated movie Ratatouille. Looking over the menu, we key in on just a simple breakfast. Eggs over easy, toast, bacon and hot coffee. Even though it was mid July it was a bit chilly. As intriguing as the place was I can’t say that for the food. The food was really good but it’s an easy breakfast you can’t do wrong. However, the customer service was great and very patient with us. We got up from our table lots to look at something that caught our eye. Made it difficult for the waitress to take our order. Young kids would love this place. The ambiance is very welcoming, especially with the mice, and the service outstanding. If we’re ever in the area again we would definitely stop by.

Food was average. I had Hippie Chick and avocado was not fresh. Is it possible to freeze avocado? Coffee is in air pots… bitter and luke warm. Worst of all, they only have one bathroom. Line was three deep. Especially inconvenient for an interstate café.

Super friendly service, amazing walleye sandwich(which waitress made sure to advise when ordered would take 20 mins) and cute store with amazing cheeses!!! A true gem I will come back to!

Did not care for it. My wine was warm and my boyfriends beer was served warm. Besides that the food was very good; so weird how you get charged extra for sauce or something to dip your sandwich in.

I’ve never given 5 stars before but the friendliness, accommodating staff and great food was worth 5 stars. I don’t know how many years we have been driving by this hole in the wall gem. They have cute gifts including handmade soaps and crafts. Wine, cheese, ice cream, coffee bar, variety of cheese hats(which were way cheaper than what we paid in Amazon) decorative sweatshirts etc. Now to the food: my husband, when he can’t decide, always asks the waitress what is her favorite food on the menu. She reported she loved the Ruben so after asking if the corned beef was cooked on site, which it was, he ordered the Ruben sandwich. He stated it was probably the best Ruben he has ever had. I tasted it because I am a Ruben affectionate and my one bite was really, really good. It was Tuesday and the special was Taco Tuesday with a cup of beer or pea soup. I chose the pea soup. There was a choice of beef, chicken or fish taco wraps, nachos or taco salad w/beef or chicken. I choose the chicken taco salad. The pea soup at first bite was a tad salty for my taste but it had great flavor and you could tell it was homemade. The more I ate the less salty it seemed. The salad was huge and a little different to what I’ve had before because instead of a refried bean on the bottom or pinto/black beans there were a few kidney beans sprinkled on top. The two types of lettuce were fresh and crispy. Other ingredients were an abundant amount of shredded flavorful chicken, sliced black olives, diced onion and tomato with shredded cheddar cheese. It came with 1 packet of mild taco sauce, a small container of diced tomato, onion and cilantro and a container of sour cream. I didn’t use the sour cream but asked for more taco sauce which they happily brought me and checked to make sure I had enough. Tabasco sauce on the table gave it the bite I needed for my taste. We may be sure to start including this place on our travels back and forth from Madison to Hayward.

Great little place! My husband and I were a little skeptical, but the food, service, and prices were awesome! The beer cheese soup is to die for. The wraps are pretty good, too. All the root beers and beers in the shop are fun to explore, and it’s neat you can have any of them with your meal. We will definitely make time to stop every time we’re traveling from St Paul to Michigan!

Traveling though wisconsin, Mocha mouse was a pleasant stop for dinner! I highly recommend for people passing through or staying near. Also, the prices were great… or maybe I’m used to the city rates… either way, happy camper here

A wondrous place! And a good quick lunch spot right off the highway. Nice selection of cheeses and local brews. Try anything fresh baked. Scones were unexpectedly cookie-like, chewy and delicious! I wish I had three stomachs so I could eat more of them!!!

We stopped here the morning after attending a wedding in town. We didn’t know they served regular food until we looked at the site, as the sign outside lists cheese, coffee, etc but no meals. Happily surprised, we walked in and were immediately confused as it only looks like a cheese shop. Luckily a staff person spotted our confused faces and seated us right away. The staff was very nice, the server was attentive and friendly. Service was quick and the surroundings were actually cozy. They stock an impressive and fun range of wines, but we were too hungover to appreciate. We ordered fried pickles and broccoli bites, which were both extra tasty. The main meal disappointed though. My friend’s wrap was dripping with sauce, the beer cheese soup looked like molten cheese which made me feel quite nauseous even though I didn’t eat it, Boyfriend’s and my sandwich were beyond bland. The waffle fries were pretty good, but the regular fries were poorly cooked. It was all fine and edible, but seemed cheap. My «cranberry horseradish» sauce was just cranberry and boring at that. There’s barely anything else in this area, so go ahead and stop in if you need a bite. They have a great cheese selection to take home!

Stopped in briefly for breakfast. The corned beef hash was reasonably good, the eggs that came with it were perfect. My cappuccino was a huge disappointment(more of a latte than a cappuccino). Service was fine. They do have a small but nice selection of cheese and beer as well. The used bookstore upstairs was a bit of a mess.

I’m only giving this place a two star instead of one because the shop attached has a good variety of cheese, butter, ice cream, etc. We stopped here on our way through Wisconsin on the way to Chicago. My husband and I both got a burger. Mine was literally meat on a roll. Pickles on the side. No lettuce, no tomato, no onions, no mayo. Nothing. No fries. Just meat and a roll. And it was ten bucks! My husband got the juicy Lucy. He took one bite and the cheese fell completely out of the burger into the basket. The burgers both tasted like they were cooked on a skillet instead of a grill. I literally could have made something better at home. I’ll never be back. But the ice cream was good so that’s something I guess. Also, if you stop while traveling, be aware there is one bathroom. I stood in a ten minute line.

Stopped in today and do not be fooled by the gift shop. This place is definitely a restaurant I ordered the beer cheese soup and that came out first and went with their specialty chicken sandwich of the day. The sandwich was pretty good it would’ve been better if I wouldn’t have skipped the avocado. The beer cheese soup was definitely cheesey and I cleaned it up. Staff was very friendly and got me in and out quick being kind of in a rush. M Warmed me right up after getting all wet four wheeling.

I ate a late lunch here with two of my coworkers. The parking lot next to this place was small but wasn’t crowded when we came. This place was a cheese shop, a bookstore(upstairs), and a restaurant. We didn’t know if we ordered then sat or if we were going to be seated until someone came out to greet us and were seated. I heard about their Dawn’s Beer Cheese Soup($ 1.95 for a cup and $ 2.95 for a bowl) and I definitely wanted that. The menu ranged from appetizers to wraps to burgers to sandwiches and to salads. The Juicy Lucy($ 7.99) sounded great to me so I ordered that. We split the White Cheese Curds($ 5.95) and all ordered a Point Root Beer on tap. The Dawn’s Beer Cheese Soup came out first and that was delicious. If you don’t like cheese then that would be the wrong thing to order obviously. It was good and I should have saved some for my Juicy Lucy(I’ll explain later in the review). The White Cheese Curds were nothing special to me but were definitely fresh. We waited a while later before our food came out. The waitress wanted me about eating the Juicy Lucy so I decided to cut it in half. To my surprise, there was no cheese in the middle of the meat patties like it said in the description. This was when I thought I should have saved some of that Dawn’s Beer Cheese Soup to put it in the burger. My burger was dry because of that and I ended up adding ketchup to it. I didn’t want to ask for a new one because it already took a long time for the food to come out even though we were the only ones there. We had a meeting to go to so we couldn’t spend more time waiting. Be prepared to wait if you go to the restaurant. There was a lot of cheese and beer in the store so you could buy some of that.

I wish that the Mocha Mouse was a reasonable driving distance from me as I would come here every day. This place is awesome for a bite and Wisconsin souvenir shopping! The BF and I stopped in for lunch and enjoyed our experience. Our server was polite and prompt. We ordered the beer cheese soup, a chef’s salad, turkey sandwich, and BLT. The food was all homemade and freshly prepared. Make sure to try the beer cheese soup, it was very delicious. The soup is prepared using the Wisconsin beer, Spotted Cow by New Glarus. My sandwich was on a croissant with turkey with smoked provolone and cranberry horseradish, super yummy. The salad was fresh and I really liked the housemade ranch dressing. Tried a bite of my BF’s BLT, it was awesome too. We ended up buying a bunch of Wisconsin cheese and beer to take back home. Absolutely recommend a stop if you are close by!

Toodling up I-94 in Wisconsin, one runs into a raft of cheese chops and cranberry emporiums, as well. About halfway between Madison and Eau Claire sits the burg of Black River Falls, and off the interstate you’ll find the Mocha Mouse, a fairly unique combination of retailer, with a cheese shop, wine, locally made canned goods, gifts, and a coffee shop. They are open 8A –8P every day. Stopped in for breakfast on Christmas Eve, and was the only diner; was interested to note on each table top were individual ramekins or mixed variety of croutons. My inquiry to the waiter revealed these were for the beer cheese soup. Dang. Having already ordered breakfast, I added a bowl of soup to go to my order.(I did find the croutons made for an excellent appetizer — lol). Breakfast was a straight up affair, with a couple eggs, thick slab o’ ham, and house-baked marble rye toast. It was prepared as ordered and a good value. It didn’t take me getting far down the road before I had to dip into the soup, which had cooled enough so that I could just chug it from its take-out bowl. Some of the best I have ever had, seriously. Worth a stop. Cheese gifts by mail available online.
