One of the BEST German restaurants of its type. We stumbled upon it while returning from a business trip from Asheville to Raleigh, and we’re glad we did. The food was superb, and the staff was super friendly! The outside doesn’t do this hidden gem justice, but once you walk inside and past the front«store,» you truly find yourself immersed in the German atmosphere. Their menu is respectably extensive for being in such a small town.

My husband and I stopped in for lunch today. I really enjoyed my turkey reuben. I loved the German rye and their kraut is tasty. Although my reuben was thin, it was plenty filling. I counted 4 slices of turkey, ample kraut, and swiss cheese. I could only eat half. My husband liked my reuben better than his Bavarian burger. He didn’t expect it to be a pressed burger. His German potato salad was chilled with dill, chives, and a vinegar twang. I really enjoyed that and he did too. I substituted home fries instead of chips with my sandy. They were not crispy, but nor were they greasy. I love potatoes and onions prepared like that! Pan fried, easy on the onions, with paprika and salt. Yum. I ordered a side of red cabbage to go with my second half of sandy. I had a taste before boxing it up. It was warm and tangy. We both enjoyed a Houfbrau dunkel on tap. It’s hard to get a good dunkel on tap with the current IPA craze. The staff was friendly and the facility was very neat and clean. It’s bigger inside than you would expect. We will go back!

It’s Cool spot tucked away in the awesome small town of Black Mountain. They have great German beers on tap and in the bottle. The sausage was delicious and the Pâté was great. The Grilled Kassler Rippchen and the pork Schnitzel are great. I also love the German home fried potato and the red cabbage. and the host was very nice.

They close ridiculously early, 8pm! we have tried to go there several times when passing by and they are NEVER open!!! Arrived 7:55 and they already had doors locked. As we looked in the door they gave us this«go away look» I gues they are not interested in customers. Sad

There was nothing wrong with this food or experience, but there was nothing exciting either. It was Boar’s Head meats that you can buy in the case to take home, but at a lofty price when cooked. 2 pieces of store sausage and 2 sides for $ 13.50 is a bit steep. I was disappointed in the German potato salad too — maybe it is my Midwest upbringing, but German potato salad was always warm and vinegary, but this was refrigerator cold and lacking in the vinegar or bacon I was dreaming of. The Reuben sandwich was super thin — my other ½ said the flavor was good, but it was literally 2 pieces of meat with the toppings and less than an inch thick. He drooled at the Reuben that we saw at dinner elsewhere that night and wished he had tried the schnitzel instead. To sum it up — it wasn’t a bad meal, just not a great one, and definitely not worth the money. I’ve had the same meat off a deli truck in Chicago for $ 4 with peppers added.

Yes, I’m definitely a fan. Cool spot tucked away in the awesome small town of Black Mountain. They have great German beers on tap and in the bottle. The Jäger Schnitzel was delicious. The pork was thin and crispy, but the kicker was the mushroom gravy. That was so rich and flavorful, I could have eaten anything covered in that. A must-try for any German food lover in the area.

Drove out of the way to eat lunch here and have for years. I ate the Reuben sandwich and it was delicious. The sandwich is flatter and easy to handle, and I appreciate that they bring the mustard or Thousand Island out on the side. I read a review that stated the Reuben was tasteless, but I thought the exact opposite. Delicious, and I will get it again! My husband ordered the special of the day– schnitzel and sausage with sauerkraut and home fries. The schnitzel was delicious, thin and crispy, great flavor. The sausage was delicious as always, especially with a bite of sauerkraut and spicy mustard. The home fries were perfectly seasoned. We also ordered the potato cake pancakes as an appetizer. Let’s just say we cleaned our plates. I just wish we had been hungry for dessert. As we walked in, a man was carrying in a fresh cheesecake… I continue to enjoy visiting Black Mountain, and will keep stopping here!

I went here on a day that I didn’t have much money but I didn’t want to eat fast food. I kept it simple and had a grilled cheese(I know). It was comforting and delicious. My service was friendly and efficient. Quiet atmosphere and they had a nice bar area. Also, I overheard someone at the next table ordering a reuben and the waitress asked what kind of sauce he wanted on the side. I made note that I wouldn’t like my reuben not coming to me all saucy from the kitchen but that’s not the worst thing in the world. I’ll be going back to try something more interesting :)

I love this place! It’s the best German restaurant in Western Carolina, if not the best in the Carolinas! If you’re in Black Mountain, don’t hesitate to stop and eat here. The Lemon Schnitzel is the absolute best!

Very disappointed in the food. Their #1 reuben sandwich was dull and tasteless. Expected much more from an ‘authentic’ German restaurant.

It was ok, I’d give them 3.5 but I can’t. Wasn’t too impressed but it was an ok meal. Sauerkraut kinda tasted like boars head. The snitzel sandwich was ok but not much flavor to it. My hubby had the hot and spicy sausage and he liked it. portions could have been a little bigger for the price. And the server could have definitely be nicer. We would go back and try more items from their menu.

What a treat to have some good German food. Read the previous reviews and knew I had to go. Friendly staff quickly seated me and no strange looks for dining by myself. Spaten on tap plus Spaten Oktoberfest. I opted for the Hofbrau Dunkel(bottle). Smooth, dark and roasty. Haven’t had this beer in almost twenty years. The menu is pretty much platters with Schnitzels, Knackwursts, Bratwursts, you name it. They also have a Reuben and some other lighter(relative to multiple sauages) items for lunch. The Bratwurst was highly recommended. Couldn’t decide between spicy or traditional so they offered one of each. Boy am I glad I listened. The spicy had crushed red pepper flakes with quite a kick, soooo good. The traditional was even better! Great flavor, plump, juicy without being greasy(they are boiled first then grilled) — just a wonderful mild meat flavor — like«meat butter». A side of potato salad, chilled with dill and bacon, and a side of tart red cabbage. My lunch came to $ 18(the platter plus one beer). Normally I might be a little offended at the prices, but there aren’t many places like these around and I really did enjoy it. Worth the splurge.

This is a cute little German place. We love the nuremberg appetizer and get it every time. I’ve been trying new stuff every time I go in but I always pick the German potato salad and the German home style potatoes. It seems silly to get two potato side dishes but it’s totally worth it. Highly recommend!

Overpriced and not really authentic. We just moved back to the US this week after living three years in Bavaria, Germany, and the food does not meet expectations of German cuisine. The idea of the dishes was correct, but the execution was lackluster and fell far short of what is served in Germany. The staff is nice, but the atmosphere is a far cry from Germany; its atmosphere is reminiscent of WNC. Finally, the price isn’t commensurate with quality or portion of the food. We went hoping to watch the German World Cup soccer game, but the restaurant seemed oblivious to the fact that Germany was playing today. It wasn’t a bad experience, they just don’t deliver what they advertise.

I claim no expertise in German food, but this place is a treat! I have eaten here several times on trips to Black Mountain, and never been disappointed. Schnitzel is always delicious, the sides always are excellent, everything seems to be prepared well, and service is prompt and friendly.

Great as usual! Had Spicy Bratwurst. Great! Great service, friendly staff. Wife had bratwurst which taste just like in Germany! Love this place!

Excellent German Food — service was excellent, prompt and friendly. The décor is a bit spartan, «German» clean and simple. The food was fantastic — I had the Jagerschnitzel, she had the Sausage combo platter. Both were portioned very generously with tasty sides of potato salad and red cabbage. The Spaten beer on tap was excellent as well, a wonderful pairing with the food. We will certainly be back soon!

I would have never thought to find a German restaurant in Black Mountain, much less one this tasty. On a recommendation from some other travelers staying in Asheville, we decided to take a slight detour on the way home and stop here for lunch. It was a bit past the typical lunch time so we were the only patrons in the place at that point. The service was friendly, the food was terrific, and the prices were very reasonable. I opted for the dinner combo #2 so as to get a good sampling. Three sausages with kraut and some potato salad washed down with a good German beer later I had a very happy belly. We will definitely be making our way back through Black Mountain for a stop here in the future.
