We hired this stucco company to install real(cement) stucco on our home. We were not very knowledgeable about stucco but learned as we went along and problems developed: So MANY problems with this guy. He — 1. Tried repeatedly to tell us that applying stucco in cold weather is okay(‘I’ll work on the side where the sun is shining”; or «I’ll warm the surface with my hand held kerosene heater as I apply the stucco») when in fact cement stucco must be kept above 40 degrees for at least 48 hours after application. Otherwise it may crack and the manufacturer’s material warranty will be void. He even tried to argue with us when we asked that he tent the newly applied stucco and keep it heated. a. Repeatedly tried to smooze us into using acrylic product despite our insisting that he was to use cement stucco. Acrylic is apparently easier to apply. 2. Didn’t arrive when promised as he would preempt us for other seemingly preferred customers(contractors and realtors) even though they hired him after us. As a result he showed up 2 months later than promised(put us into cold weather) and then didn’t show up on warmer days when applying new stucco was appropriate. 3. As a result of not showing up(#2 above) we were left with uncovered osb sheathing on days when the night time temperature dropped to 3 degrees and it snowed. 4. Cut many corners: a. Used chicken wire instead of wire lath. b. Applied 2 coats instead of three as recommended by the Portland Cement Association(see: ) c. Removed newly installed window wrap and then hid this«borrowing» by covering up the area with tar paper. d. Despite clear instructions, he put nails through our brand new rubber roofing where it went up the wall. We asked him to use contact cement(even bought him a can) as recommended by the roofer. He then falsely claimed the contact cement didn’t work but in fact the new can of contact cement was never even opened. 5. Left up his scaffolding in front of bedroom windows when he was done with a section and he left supplies around. Took over homeowner’s work room. 6. Didn’t move waste to the dumpster so we had to move heavy materials ourselves. Often only worked for 4 hours or less per day. Not sure if he was going to other jobs or just not a hard worker. 7. Ignored our requests on almost everything big and small. 8. Talks incessantly. 9. Charged extra for work that in our opinion should have been within his bid. We finally FIRED him.
