My husband and walked in and were very welcomed. One of the gentlemen, I forget his name, made us feel very welcomed. He walked us back to where it began and offered amazing information for us to begin the self tour. The cotton museum is not very large but its perfect. Everything is labeled very well with descriptions on how it works or back stories. My favorite part is that you are very encouraged to feel the difference in the cotton through the stages. So this place is great for kids. Also hit the gift shop! You can buy bundles of cotton! He also took us right over to the veterans museum once we were done.(Knowing that my husband and I were out of staters and that my husband was military) He told us the history of the building and why it became the place it is now. Its heart warming. My husband and I loved this place. Definitely worth the visit.

As you may have learned in some of my other reviews, I love small off beat, odd museums, and the Cotton Museum in Bishopville surely qualifies. This Museum covers the history of cotton not only in the area, but throughout the south. the big boll weevil is their arch enemy and has really done some damage in the past, rather than spill all the beans, I will leave that to you to find on your next trip through the area. It is a small museum that will only take an hour at max(unless you are an information magnet and read every detail of everything!) Enjoy — I Did
