I walked out with an all weather commuter coat for $ 15.00, I didn’t need it but I couldn’t pass up this killer deal! Not the friendliest staff but it didn’t bother me, I don’t go to thrift type stores to engage with people.

This place is AWESOMEAWESOMEAWESOME! They have another store called«gear exchange.» This is where my husband and I have spent quite a bit of time. It’s a nature explorer/hiker/rock climber/camper’s paradise. From a crash pad for bouldering to hiking boots, they have it all in both used and new options. Did I mention that this place functions as a semi-consignment store too?! You can get great bargains on gently used gear(i.e., I scored a rock climbing harness for only $ 10). Ladies, they also have two racks of onzie brand yoga shorts, capri, and tops which are priced to move. I scored yoga shorts for $ 20 which are priced at $ 35 online at the onzie website! If you’re in bishop, check this place out. You can easily spend an hour browsing around.

Shopped here en route to a snow-less Mammoth last Feb. I scored sweet base layers and wool socks that will hopefully come in handy for El Niño winter 2016!!! On our way up the Mtn again for summer bike and hike, but will definitely drop in for more deals — GREAT prices and finds.

Excellent staff. They always have what I need, but I always wait for it to go on sale before I buy it. Everyone who works here is so knowledgable and I’ve never encountered an unfriendly person here.

Potentially a cool place to shop for used gear and to make some money selling your own. It’s a shame that at least a couple of the individuals who regularly work here are so unfriendly(unless they know you). I’m sure they don’t make much money and their work can be tedious(as someone else pointed out). The fact that they«have college degrees» doesn’t give them a free pass to be disgruntled. I have sold items and spent several hundred dollars here on gear since moving to Bishop a year ago. I recently walked in with an armload of gear I hoped to drop off to once again support this local business that I want to like, but once again I felt like I was nothing but an annoyance to the guy behind the counter. Most of us have had to work crappy jobs at some point. I know I have, even after earning my degree. If the people who work can’t manage to put on a happy face and grow up, I’m afraid I won’t be back.

Staff was not helpful at all. Sales person was more interested in saying hello to her coming/going friends them helping us out. We dropped 180 $ on a 35 degree down bag and the sales person’s demeanor was barely thankful for our purchase. We were in a pinch so had to buy the bag, if we had more time we would have gladly declined purchasing anything from this place. Also, the used sleeping bag selection was dismal.

Overall a good outdoor store with decent deals on used stuff(they know what people will pay money for and some items seem over priced). But I enjoy browsing though the used equipment. Probably not where I would go for new gear, but a great place for used! Customer service is a little lacking, but I’ll give them a break since they usually seem a little understaffed.

So all you folk’s that complain about poor customer service listen up !!! They are in charge of receiving all the consignment gear… and making labels… and putting all the merchandise into the computer system… So all you folks get paid for what you leave there to sell on consignment! They are not hanging out looking online !!! There are killer deals there and if you are a good shopper you will see what I mean! This store rocks and all the employees have college degrees and are underpaid. Give the place a brake!

Service here sucks. Great deals can be had, but I’m sorry for interrupting your internet wandering/socializing with friends/other nonsense for you to, you know, earn your living. I get it, you’re too cool and you live in Bishop… but come on, when someone has a question or needs to see something, help ‘em out! Or maybe even acknowledge folks when they walk in the door. Nothing more awkward than not being acknowledged and wandering through a small store.

Great shop with a ton of used gear, as well as some discounted new clothing and gear. Some reviews say its expensive, yes, some of the consignment stuff is expensive, but its not the Gear Exchanges fault. On the other hand, I have seen some great deals here, and bought some great stuff for cheap. Give it a try!

LOVE gear! Love Gear Exchange! I love everything about this place. I have used it to consign gear with great success. I have purchased used gear and I have purchased new gear. I only wish they were a bit more on top of dropping the prices of things that have been there awhile. I think it would help clear out the junk.

This place is cool, but the prices are not as sexy as they could be. You know what I’m talking about. They sell new gear too. This would be a great place to go in a pinch. If you leave your boots at home and are planning to climb Mt. Whitney go here and get a cheap pair of used boots. They have tons! Also, you can purchase any other gear here that you may have forgotten at home. Don’t half step. Come here for descent used ski deals.

Mammoth Mountaineering’s Bishop satellite store is a fine addition to the town. They were originally located on Willow Street, but took over the old Taylor’s Shoes location. In addition to new clothing, they have a large selection of samples and consignment items, including used clothing, footwear, and skis. While much smaller and limited in selection than the Mammoth store(e.g. not much in the way of new climbing gear) it’s nice not to have to make the haul up to Mammoth.
