Shish Kabob Xpress

Great lunch special prices and they open at 10:00… I like to eat lunch early and not many places open before 11:00. Everything is super fresh and portions and more than enough. Very great place.

My mouth is watering while trying to write this review. Everything is amazing here and so fresh. My husbands family is Lebanese and this is one of the only Middle eastern restaurants he will do carry out from. Mujadara, falafel and chicken shawarma pitas are awesome! Crushed lentil soup is a must and a side of the garlic sauce to go on everything!!!

A rep orders our office lunch from here all the time and I love this place! The lemon oregano chicken, whipped garlic, salad, humus, etc., is the best! I crave this chicken! I highly recommend this place!

Eat here. I do about three times a week. I’m trying to branch out to eat other things other than the chicken Schwarma and babaganouch … But it’s not working. I have to eat them. A lot.
It’s not like these guys don’t have a great menu. They do. And they make smoothies any kind of smoothies. Their seating in the front you can look out on Woodward and watch the world go by while you’re reading some of the best versus food around. Like I said: eat here

This is such a great hole in the wall, famil owned, restaurant. Food is very high quality, the crew is so friendly, AND they deliver!
Only drawback is that they dont have hot pita. However, the food and service more than makes up for this.
We eat here twice a week and will plan to support this great local business for as long as they are open. Love this place!

Solid Lebanese food in an area that’s not known for great Lebanese food. The servings are huge and the prices are reasonably. Plus they deliver if you live in the area. The service is really good. I am a fan!

I have been to this restaurant numerous times and have been impressed with the food and service every time. Do not let the modest outside appearance of this store fool you — this is great Middle Eastern food. The value for the money is also amazing. The Chicken Schwarma sandwich for $ 4.50 is a deal.

Best Mediterranean carry out with reasonable prices. Shish tawook sandwich is the best in town. Would highly recommend, I make it there at least a few times per week

I was referred by a family friend and thus was willing to be lenient. The fact is the is the best food, regardless of genre we have ever had. Now it is part of our family’s regular dinner. The sandwiches are just immeasurably good with no contest from any local restaurant.

Enjoyed my Shish Tawook sandwich so much. The garlic paste/​sauce was really tasty. Drop in for a treat!

As they were preparing our food, I saw an iPhone out right next to our sandwich, on the same prep counter. If they’re going to touch their phones making a sandwich, might as well not use gloves. I tried to ignore this, but didn’t help when I got a long hair in my sandwich.

This is gonna be an educational review:
White people stop writing good reviews for a middle easter place, you are disappointing me lol. I think many people have not experienced good middle eastern food and you are overrating these places. Anyway enough with that, I think that was a lot of criticism for people lol.
I ordered chicken shawarma fries sandwich with a side of baba ganoush. The sandwich had no flavor, the only flavor was the garlic sauce (this probably give you the idea that Arab men smell like garlic, we don’t walk smelling like garlic, so do not be afraid of dating an Arab man ;). The chicken was dry and has absolutely zero flavor. In fact it is not even real chicken shawarma. It was merely diced chicken breast. The baba gnoush was fine (not great).
Okay so the only reason this place received two stars is because the people who work there are nice.

The excitement I get while waiting for my Shish Kabob Express delivery rivals that of the excitement I once felt as a little girl while anticipating Santa Claus’ arrival on Christmas Eve. The delivery is always prompt and the food is always hot and fresh. I always order the Family Feast when catering for friends and the food never disappoints! (With the exception of a dry falafel here and there but I can let that slide) The lentil soup and fattoush salad are always delicious as well and my kids especially love the rice! Highly recommend:)

It is delicious and they are always courteous. They deliver promptly and the food is gone just as fast!

This review is based of two separate delivery orders which were overall outstanding experiences.
My only gripe is that they don’t seem to season their kabobs or rice pilaf. This happened on both orders. The baba and hummus were perfectly seasoned, so someone there knows how to use salt.
Normally I’d be hard pressed to still give 5 stars to a place that avoids salt… as seasoning is a cornerstone. It’s a big deal. But there were significant compensating factors which allow me to overlook it a bit from a global perspective.
They were fast and didn’t forget anything. Both times were like Jimmy John’s fast – totally unexpected. They were courteous, they said hello and thank you at the door. They even gave me a free sample of hummos for no reason – twice now. Everything was fresh. Nothing was off putting or sketchy. Just a feel good experience going through the bag and to see that someone who cared put it together.
I’ve specified medium rare twice now and it’s shown up that way. So these guys read the actual ticket and then execute on the grill. Still why no salt? Those things typically go hand in hand, which makes me wonder if the reason they don’t put salt on some things is possibly for the increased complaining which comes with a Birmingham store front.
They did so exceedingly well on everything else it was it was easy to give them a 5 and overlook the salt thing – it gives me a reason to use that fancy pretentious salt I got at Papa Joe’s.

I ordered delivery online, nothing told me how long my order would be so I expected maybe an hour. After an hour I called and the man said the driver should be here any minute. Thirty minutes later they arrived, my order was $ 24 and I had requested to pay cash so I hand them $ 40, asking for a $ 10 back, smugly she says no change and looks at me like I’m an idiot for not having exact change. Ok. Awesome.
My smoothie was watery, warm and nasty and this place is 2 minutes from my place. My chicken shawarma sandwich tasted fishy and cold. Not a fan and I will not be going back.

After my last visit, I was encouraged to give Shish Kabob Xpress another try by the owner’s brother. They were going to update the inside, I was told — I promised I would.
It is amazing what a little paint will do to an interior. The bathroom still had a little gritty feel, but the ugly picture of the fountain pop area I took at the last visit has been upgraded with new cabinets. Seems silly, but honestly the cabinet is the first thing you see when you walk through the door.
The food was better this time. Based on the reviews I think I came here during an off day or time during my prior visit. I had the same sandwich although this time I had fattoush. I like that they put the dressing on the side.
They were out of iced tea. That was a bummer but over all the experience was vastly improved. The most impressive thing was the service from the counter was very friendly — not something I noticed last time.
Much better, glad I returned.

I work in Birmingham and sometimes only have a half hour for lunch. I love calling in my order and they tell me 10 min. It’s ready!
The chicken fattoush salad is awesome.
This is one of my favorite places to get lunch In Birmingham.

Online ordering and delivery through Eat24. And all through my iPhone. Awesome. This place was surprisingly good. Garlic sauce, hummus, lemon oregano chicken and dolmas were all perfection. Next time will have to go in and see the place. Imagine getting a meal at this place on Woodward would be fast and easy.

Shish Kabob Xpress delivered. On time, great good and it was enjoyed by the entire group. It’s easy to order more than you need to so be careful, unless you want leftovers! (we always do when its comes to middle eastern food.)
