Salon U An Aveda Concept Salon

I have been going to this salon for over 5 years. Because I had to miss one appt. due to illness, I was told my stylist will not see me anymore and the owner confirmed it. Very unprofessional and I have always left over 20% tips. Also, I have always referred my friends to this salon and to my stylist. They are very arrogant, and not appreciative!!! Prices are very high and not what you get for a cut and the staff can be rude. I highly recommend you find another salon… not worth the drama here, nor the lame excuse. They are very sneaky too and will tell you lies concerning times available for service. There are too many salons in Homewood that are much better and I would recommend Sanctuary. much more professional and better hair cut and experience with color by far. Todd, the owner, is very professional and all the staff are exceptionally nice.

I have been going 2 this Salon 2 see Meghan Wilson for last 10 years… I followed her from another salon in the area she was THAT GOOD! Just had my cut & color done yesterday & she & Benji were absolutely fantastic! I worked the last 2 nights so was completely exhausted by the time of my appt @ 0900 (when they open) by the time I left I felt like I had had a day @ the spa! Meghan is GREAT stylist & Benji did a wonderful job on my color! So much so I spoke w/​the owner 2 compliment him on what a beautiful & WONDERFUL salon he has built right here in Birmingham! Highly regarded… Start going now!!!

I booked an appointment with Fran a month in advance as I had heard some great things about her. I got a call two days prior to my appointment saying she wasn’t taking new clients. I could have gotten my haircut elsewhere, or when I went to Atlanta. I waited a whole month and they ended up cancelling last minute. I was offered another hairstylist, but no thanks. If you are not going to take new clients, then all your staff should know. This is very unprofessional and poor customer service. Never going to this place.

I don’t know if I have bad hair, or difficult hair, or just have had a slew of really horrible stylists, but for my entire adult life I have had really horrible salon experiences. So horrible that in the past I’ve resorted to cutting my own hair.
I decided to give Salon U a try last year. The receptionist assigned me to Michelle N. upstairs. This woman gets my hair. She didn’t complain about it or tell me what a horrible person I am. She just did her job and did it well.
I went back to Michelle earlier this week for a completely new ‘do and I love it and she is great and I’m not sure why the other reviewer had such a bad experience. I am ²⁄₂ for great hair experiences!
The receptionists are always really friendly in phone and in person. My hair washer guy let water dribble all down my face and in my ears which I hate but… I guess as a man maybe he just didn’t care to touch me delicately?
All in all so far very positive experiences.

Mandy is great! She is on the higher end of their price, but worth it if you want her attention to detail.

I don’t have anything good to say about this salon, and this review is LONG over due, I went to Michelle, and my hair looked better before she did it, i don’t have hardly any grey, but I specifically ask that it be covered, and it was NOT, i ask for bangs and she snipped a half inch piece that looked like a after thought, and I told the person making the apt. how much hair I have and that I was going out of town so I needed it styled, well I left there with wet hair, and it didn’t look good, I felt very rushed. So I called the next day, and left a message for her, no call back, so I called again, and the receptionist is the only person I EVER spoke to ! I ask for the manager to call me, but he did not, they offered to re-​do ?? well thats a over statement, NO thanks, AND heres the kicker, they charged me $ 225 !!! I felt like I had been robbed !! I have paid that kind of money before and thats fine, when you get those kind of results… BUT I didn’t …I do NOT recommend that anyone go here… Id like to buy them for what they are worth, and sell them for what they think they are worth ;)

I am semi new to town and was having a hard time trusting a salon to cut and color me the way I’ll like it. I had read reviews about this salon and I trust aveda products so I went and got a haircut by Joshua a month ago. He took off 3 inches (I have long hair and almost cried) but it was beautiful and I loved it. So I decided to wait a few more weeks for my hair color bc I’m in a wedding this weekend. He not only matched my color perfectly but the color is just vibrant and amazing– he didn’t use bleach, used one bowl of color (not sure if this was a mixture of colors) and gave my color demension. I’m veryyyy happy with my hair and i have found my new salon… hallelujah.

I have always been jumping from one stylist to another but I have finally found THE one! Brittany is by far the best… Her excellent training and continual education are evident in her knowledge of technique, product, and styles. I have lived in Atlanta, New York City, and California and have never found anyone that comes close to Brittany. And if that’s not get enough she has the most genuine and down to earth personality. You won’t be disappointed!

I’m new to Birmingham and was recommended to Salon U by a native. I checked it out, and seeing positive reviews on Unilocal about the stylists, I called and made an appointment with Allison through Cain (sorry if I misspelled) who was exceptionally friendly.
I was very excited about getting some much needed chair time when I showed up for my appointment to find out… it had been rescheduled? Without asking me?
Apparently, a regular had called and they gave that person my appointment and switched my stylist from Allison to someone else and my new stylist had called in sick that morning so they bumped my appointment back to Allison’s schedule but at a later time after the regular’s. What a headache!
Now, I’m the new girl in town and didn’t have my heart set on one particular stylist yet, but I found it unprofessional to change details of my appointment without getting the go ahead from me.
The manager said she had called me and left a message telling me about the change and to «call back if that was not ok.» What would have been the right thing to do is to call me and make sure that was ok BEFORE changing things around. When I suggested this etiquette enhancement, the manager got very defensive and argumentative to the point where I decided to cancel my appointment and find another salon.
It’s really unfortunate the manager was so unprofessional because the salon itself looked very nice and the stylists are supposed to be pretty great (and I did have a great interaction with Cain, hence the second star).

I’m not great at getting my hair cut so I wait until it is out of control and then I realize a family wedding is coming up. Oops! I called needing an appointment within the week. They were able to make it happen.
I love Aveda Salons and this one did not disappoint. My stylist was lovely. They even sent me a physical thank you note. Gotta love that!
I’m deducting a star because there was a ton of dust on all the product in the front. Tabitha would be pissed.

It’s hard to move to a new city and not know where to go to get your hair did. Thankfully I was referred to Emily Perry and I am so glad I found her! I’ve always been the type to stick with the same hair color/​cut/​style — yes, since I was in high school. Emily helped me to realize it was time to get rid of my super long, super blonde hair and move in a more sophisticated direction. I’m so glad I trusted her and I am so looking forward to my next appointment with her!
The salon itself is a very nice space and everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful. My only issue is that the shampoo chairs are really uncomfortable, but that seems to happen to me at every salon… maybe I have a weird neck and just don’t know it.
I’d like to try their massage and nail services sometime, but I know I’ll keep going back to Emily for my hair.

More ‘style’ than substance. (not in a good way) Also, overpriced! DId I mention it’s overpriced?

Go see Jason at Salon U. I have had my hair highlighted by many, many stylists over the years, and Jason is far and away the best. He’s an amazing colorist. Highly recommend!
