Food was good! Pancakes so fluffy and floofy(yes, I said floofy). I love that the pancakes don’t soak up syrup. Server was awesome. Will come again.

Came here after a friend kept telling me how good it is and I wasn’t disappointed. Firstly I’ll say fresh fresh orange juice you have to try some. I ordered the Dutch baby with lemon and it was amazing, if you are not a fan of lemon you can have something else added to it maybe strawberries which is an option. We also had regular pancakes and potatoes for the table and those were good too. If we had one in Chicago I would definitely be a regular.

I’ve been here 100 times and usually get the same thing, the Santa Fe with a side of flaps and they’re always good. But today was different. Today my server was Julie and everything was infinitely better. She greeted us with a bright smile, refilled my coffee quickly, brought the food out so fast it was almost too hot. As long as you have to wait for a table anyway, you may as well wait a little longer to get her section

Just had a wonderful breakfast at a restaurant that I have not eaten at in years The original pancake house on Woodward My husband had the pigs in a blanket he really enjoyed it my favorite has always been the thick cut bacon which still proves to be a winner. the must try though is the fresh squeezed orange juice. Yummy! It’s been a long time since I have been here but I certainly will be back soon

An unbelievable breakfast experience with exceptional specialty pancakes. The service is slow and inflexible, but that a common issue in metro Detroit! LOL

Food was ok. Server(didn’t say name but number 30) was one on the rudest I have ever had. I used to server manage and bartend so I know what bad service is and this was it. Her attitude was rediculos and my eggs were runny as could be when I specifically asked then to be not runny. Wait was long but that is always so ok with that but the server will male me stay away forever

We got here on Sunday, 11÷1÷15 right when the place opened at 6:30AM. Within 20 minutes, the place was bustling. People just kept pouring into the parking lot. I like the way the place looks on the inside — for a breakfast diner, it is well maintained. Staff is on point, though we did notice some people got their food before we did and they arrived after we did. We jokingly assumed the regulars are served first. Food was just OK — the corn beef hash wasn’t exactly what I expected but the pancakes were pretty good. Not sure why this place is so popular, I’d rather go to IHOP.

Hey, the food is here tastes amazing, likely because I love butter… especially the salted kind of butter. My 3 star review is based on BUTTER alone. Yes, everything is coated in butter, try eating half and refrigerating the leftovers and then try them cold and you will find a nice coating of butter on everything. It is too much for me, I feel dirty trying to eat here. Let me list the delicious and heavenly items I have tried that make me feel so dirty with too much butter: I have had the apple pancake and wow, it is fantastic!!! The Cherry crepes, amazing!!! The Santa Fe omelette is splendid, the cheese cooked into it is all very delicious and it has a hint of seasoning in there, maybe it is oregano… anyway, you would not expect that in an omelette… it sure tastes good!

The Original Pancake House is truly a treat! I have been coming to this location ever since I was a little girl, and they used to serve us fresh fruit while we waited to order, and to end our meal a small cup of yogurt. Now, with that beginning said, here is my current review of this restaurant. Their pancakes are absoultly award winning, when they are served hot. This location serves more than just pancakes, you do have the option of additional breakfast favorites such as waffles, eggs, corn beef hash, oatmeal, toast, ect. However, their second famous item is the Dutch(German, and little baby). When coming to enjoy breakfast, you must come hungry because you will recieve a lot of food. Lastly, please know that you will be waiting a while to be seated as this location is very small, and the number of tables are limited. In addtion to waiting, also know that all members of your party must be present prior to being seated.

This was a big disappointment. We got in fairly quickly, which was good, but then the waitress was not very nice — verging on rudeness. She forgot to bring us some of our food but left the table so fast after dropping it off that we couldn’t tell her. No «is everything ok?» or «can I bring you anything else?» We had a hard time getting her to come back. It was like we were bothering her. The food was ok but my omelet was runny in the middle and there was a hair in my side of mushroom sauce. Also it is ridiculous how the tables are crammed on top of each other. They actually moved some people near us while they were eating, so they could put another table RIGHT up against their table and seated some people there. Essentially they were now sitting at the same table. Sorry — this one’s not worth the hype.

WOW! Ate here following the July 4th holiday and brought some out-of-towners for brunch. Everyone loved their breakfast and the pancakes were a hit. Tried the big apple this time, which should also be served with a side of insulin. Its extremely sweet, and if you dare to try it, it should definitely be shared. Still feel this is the best breakfast to be had ever.

Got to love breakfast. This place is great for pancakes and other baked wonders. My wife and I prefer to come here for dinner since it’s so busy in the morning. My philosophy is if you’re coming to a pancake house. then you should order pancakes, and I’m normally not a pancake person in general. That’s another reason why this place works for dinner. I rarely want something sweet for my first meal of the day. My favorites here are the Big German and the Big Apple. These aren’t your typical griddle cakes but more of a soufflé. The German being Old World charming and simple with it’s powdered sugar and lemon wedges to squeeze over the top. It’s the bomb. The big Apple is also wonderful in it’s more complex form with caramelized apples and cinnamon. The bacon here is thick marvellous and delicious while the sausage is quite ordinary if not slightly disappointing, with no natural casing to snap into. OJ here is liquid heaven. The exception to my «order pancake» rule would be their version of eggs Benedict with the mushroom sherry sauce, it’s really good too.

Honestly, I consider this place to be overrated. I was debating on giving it 3 or 4 stars but the food made me pick 4. I got a bacon special, that came with eggs bacon and a side of pancakes. Everything tasted really good, but I was just expecting more. My service was pretty average and my waitress didn’t really give us any attention(which isn’t always a bad thing but eh). I prefer The Pantry over OHOP any day… Sorry

I usually begin the day with diet soda and continue throughout the day so it was a shock to my system that my beverage of choice was unavailable at this location. That took some adjusting. The restaurant was fairly empty compared to a typical Saturday morning. Still there were many families enjoying breakfast out. The restaurant looks well-worn which usually causes concern with the uninitiated. Its appearance is enhanced by the old appliances and furnishings that are displayed by the windows along one wall, including a television with a round screen. Today, I enjoyed the Eggs Michael, poached eggs and sausage patties on English muffin halves. They were smothered in a mushroom and sherry Hollandaise sauce. The sausage was nicely spicy but unfortunately, the egg yolks were almost overdone. Potato pancakes are served with the meal but I asked for a few buttermilk ones as well. Both types were amazing. The potato pancakes are thin and tasty and perfect with the apple sauce. The buttermilk ones were oh-so fluffy and tender — I can say they were the best pancakes I have ever had. The warmed syrup was overly sweet but somehow went very well with these lovely pancakes. I did not enjoy the home fries though. While well-seasoned, they were inconsistently cooked. I also like the Apple Pancake, a heavier pancake with cinnamon apples, and the Dutch Baby, an oven-raised, thin pancake served with a light sprinkling of powdered sugar. Service was okay. It took a while to place the order and the server was not readily available during the meal.

I have no idea why I’ve waited this long to try the Original Pancake House but boy is it yummy. At a friends suggestion I ordered the Big Apple… I had not been properly warned about the massive size of this gooey delightful Apple pancake. My goodness was it big! My family enjoyed their pancakes as well and the coffee was also very good as was the service.

The food here is ridiculously good. I like to get a little jazzy and add corned beef into the broccoli and cheese omelette with their mushroom sauce on the side. Seriously incredible flavor explosions going on here! And the portions are generous. But thankfully, the food reheats well in the oven(not the microwave). The secret to their omelettes is they are baked. The outside has a sorta crispy texture while the inside is dense, but still somehow fluffy and moist. The cheeses are super fresh and rich while the strawberries, whether on a pancake stack or in the lemonade, are so worth the sugar rush. The syrup is the real thing too. If you dine in, it will come warm. The line is usually wrapped around the building and for good reason. I prefer to order takeout because of this, but if you manage to get a seat inside, the staff is friendly and the décor is interesting. Highly recommend. Best breakfast place I’ve eaten at in a very long time.

Can’t decide if the food or the service is the reason I continually spend my money here. To say that the staff is friendly is an extreme understatement. Every time I visit I am greeted with a big smile no matter how busy they are, and it gets ridiculously busy on the weekends. I can’t vouch for much because I get the same thing every time I come, Apple Belgian Waffles with apple nectar, but I am sure everything else is just as good. Given the sea of happy faces and wall to wall seating I’m sure everyone else will say the same.

I noticed that this location(Birmingham) is open until 9:00pm, so when our group was deciding where to go for dinner, I suggested that we try breakfast for dinner. They do quite a decent business at night. We were there around 6:30 on a Saturday night and we did not have to wait, which is quite a change from their morning routine. But because it’s open at night, I thought they might have some additional offerings. They don’t. The omelettes are amazingly fluffy. They must beat the devil out of the eggs! And they are very generously stuffed. But, I think that they are pretty expensive: for $ 9.50, you get an omelette and 3 medium sized pancakes. That’s it. No hash browns or fruit or garnish. And the hot tea I had was over $ 2. The teapot of hot water holds exactly 1 cup of tea, and the server filled it once. The server must’ve been new or maybe distracted. We had a party of 8. 2 parties were couples, and the other 4 of us were singles. At first, she put everything on one bill, except for one couple who’d mentioned earlier that theirs was together. When the other couple mentioned their bills were also together, she re-did the bill again, and put the couple’s together — and the other 4 of ours together. For a third time, we had to ask her to figure the bill so that everyone got their own. Wouldn’t it have been simpler to just print 8 separate bills, and those who were together could pay together? The other thing was that the special for the night was $ 1 off omelettes. But, she neglected to deduct that from the bills. Rather than re-do the bills a fourth time, she just told the cashier, who adjusted it when we went to pay. While the food is good, I think it is too expensive for what it is. And considering that it prides itself on being called the Original Pancake House, I would think they’d be a little more creative with said pancakes. Other local places(think Zoe’s & Rudy’s) offer have unusual flavors and don’t have that«chain» feel.

A family favorite! We grew up going to the Grosse Pointe location. Birmingham is exactly the same. Wonderful savory or sweet breakfast any time of day. Strawberry crepes, garden Dutch baby, plain pancakes and big apple are our favorites. Love this place.

This place is a Birmingham staple and is by far the best breakfast you can have in the Detroit-area. Everything is amazing– between the fluffy omelets, the pecan pancakes, the signature«big apple», to the strawberry crepes. How can you possibly go wrong? The Big Apple is definitely an experience within itself, this puffy pastry comes out hot with tons of cinnamon and apples. You don’t even need to put syrup on it to enjoy, it’s got flavor all on its own. To me, that’s the measure of a good breakfast item. Their omelets are unlike any other omelets that I’ve ever had. They come out puffy with a TON of meat & vegetables, they also come with a side order of pancakes. We also tried the crepes this past time and they were perfect. They were filled with strawberries and topped with real whipped cream. They weren’t soggy at all and came out warm. The line to eat can sometimes be long, especially if you come in a peak time during brunch on the weekends, but they do a great job of moving the line. Highly recommended if you haven’t been.
