Great soul food. I got there a little early and the fried chicken not the peach cobbler wasn’t ready. I’ll be back. Very reasonable prices!

Visiting from Houston. Food was fresh and delicious. They even made us fresh fried chicken and homemade ice cream and peach cobbler. This is the type of jomemade food and hospitality that will keep me coming back for more.

Wow! Might be the best southern barbecue we’ve ever had! As northerners we gravitate towards southern food whenever we have the chance. We landed in Birmingham and found this hidden gem through Unilocal.Delicious! Beef ribs were falling off the bone with a super tasty Sauce. BBQ chicken moist and flavorful. The sides were great too! Yams, greens, corn biscuits, black eyed peas and amazing mac and cheese. The kids were moaning with delight as they ate! Peach cobbler was a great ending– oh and the friendliest people running the place! A great experience all around!

When I walked in, I was hesitate of even ordering, but let me tell you, best food I’ve eaten in Birmingham so far. I ordered bbq chicken and macaroni & cheese, and the meat was literally falling of the bone cause how tender and juicy it was. the Mac and cheese, was great and cheesy! The sweet potatoes were sweet, soft with a hint of cinnamon, and you can’t stop eating it. The food is amazing and the pricing are great for portions and the staff go out of your way to make sure you have a great experience!

One of my favorite stops in B’ham! What a variety of everybody’s favorites, I’ll have one of everything please. Always fresh and tasty and true to its Southern roots, Mrs B’s is just flat out great. I’ve never been disappointed with a single item, today it was meatloaf that was as good as I’ve ever had, with pintos and sweet potatoes. Yum! And to top that off some of the best peach cobbler in the known universe. They’ve got a hotline so you never have to wait too long before chowing down. I’ve had the oxtails, beef tips, fried chicken, and catfish and they’ve all been top shelf. If I lived in B’ham I’d eat here 2 – 3 times a week, its that good. Oh oh and wash it all down with a Half/Half made from homemade lemonade. It just doesn’t get any better. And BTW, I had a $ 15 Groupon for 9 bucks.

Probably one of my most fav spots to eat in Bham! I’m not a soul food kinda gal in the kitchen, but my BF loves soul food, so great way to hook him up. Love this place! Everyone is always nice and the food is wonderful.

So for the most part, it appears that Groupon has gone the way of the Dodo but on occasion, you can catch a great deal at a place you want to try or regularly go. In this instance, I grabbed the $ 30 for $ 10 for Mrs B’s on Fourth. This is a steam table meat and three restaurant. We stopped by last night around 6PM knowing it closes at 7 which would limit our options somewhat. For«veggies» all they had left were mac and cheese, rice, collards, yams, baked beans and dressing gravy. Aside from the collards, not a lot of green options but hey Mn3s aren’t exactly a healthy meal overall. For the $ 30, we ordered three plates, two drinks and a slice of sweet potato pie. I had the pepper steak, which was basically a slightly peppery country fried steak, collards and mac and cheese. S. had the chicken quarter, dark meat, with yams and collards. We also got an order of beef tips over rice, dressing and gravy and I forgot the third vegetable. Overall — the beef tips were excellent with minimal gristle or fat, tender and lots of gravy the mac and cheese was covered in cheese unlike at some other places(I’m looking at you Moe’s), The dressing and gravy was pretty good too. The collards were good with lots of stems and green leaves. I should have asked for some pepper sauce. Steak was tender with a bit of breading and excellent gravy. Chicken was fine. I’m not a yam guy. Our 20 month old daughter devoured the beef tips over rice, chicken, and corn bread. Sweet potato pie was pretty darn good too. This was one of the better Groupon values in a long time and did the job of getting me in the door and I’m likely to return again, although perhaps during the day when they have a larger selection. Super nice counter service too.

Really great food, and actually pretty historical. I was told that this is one of the restaurants Martin Luther King used to eat at, when restaurants were still segregated. I am vegetarian, and just got sides that were SO flavorful.

Seemed like authentic soul food in a rustic, cafeteria atmosphere. The cook was nice to us, and even explained some of the recipes! Portions were really generous. However, the drinks were too sweet for us northerners.

I tried this place a few weeks ago. Very nice staff. The mixed vegetables were the best thing out of everything on my plate. I not sure if I will go back.

Surprisingly good soul food and good people! My expectations weren’t high as I had first impressions of the décor and the food I saw behind the counter. The place seemed shabby(without the chic) and food looked a little sparse and rough — read to the end to understand. The first nice surprise was how sweet the young lady behind the counter was. She was so pleasant, friendly, and pretty that we liked her and wanted to like the restaurant. When we started eating we found out this place is authentic! Someone in the kitchen has some soul food skills! We had beef tips, barbecue chicken, macaroni and cheese, greens(printed as «turip» greens on the menu board), fried corn, butter beans, cornbread, apple crisp, fried chicken, homemade lemonade and iced tea. All of the food was very tasty. I particularly liked the greens and butter beans. As we were leaving we discovered that they had stayed open an extra half hour for us. We didn’t know we were keeping them late, and they were too gracious to mention it. I would give them 5 stars on their attitude and kindness. If we had eaten earlier in the day they may have gotten 5 stars all the way around. Next time in Birmingham I will stop in again. Blessings on Mrs. B’s and everyone who works there — it was a treat.

Great home cooking in downtown Birmingham! Had the baked chicken and dressing. We have stopped by several times and food is always consistent and good! Put this great place on your wish list when traveling through Birmingham!

Ok so I looked on Unilocal, saw the reviews and thought I’d give this place a try during recent trip. Now let me say this, I am a southern gal so I know about the style of cooking. My palette has evolved very much so food heavily salted and over cooked is not my idea of soul food. I want to taste the flavors not the salt. I had beef tips served over rice with cabbage and mac&cheese. All I tasted was salt for the tips and cabbage. Mac & cheese was good. Location doesn’t have A/C so if dining in… drink plenty of water.

I read the reviews for this place and I had to give it a try. Maybe is me or maybe it’s my standards, but I thought the food was just average, and the service was below average. The guy behind the counter didn’t seem to know what he was doing. We got our food it was priced reasonably, but the food was lacking flavor. I got the beef tips and rice, and all I could taste was the ridiculous amount of pepper they put into it. My friend ordered the barbecue chicken, but you can always tell that the chicken wasn’t grilled it was just baked and covered in barbecue sauce. Overall everything was average but I don’t know if I’ll give it another shot.

I found this place on a fluke because of where I parked for the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. Anyhow, I noticed this place after the walk was over as I had parked across the street. The food was servered buffet style. I had cabbage, mac and cheese, cornbread muffin, baked chicken, dressing, and lemonade(thanks). The gentleman were really nice and the food was AWESOME!!! I’m definitely going back soon.

Like many others, we went here on our way to the Civil Rights Institute which is a couple blocks away. The place serves cafeteria style(think meat & two sides on a tray), and is pretty basic, tasty southern cooking. I had the fried chicken and my wife had the beef ribs. Both were good. The beans and collard greens were both flavorful without being too salty(which is one of my pet peeves with a lot of restaurants). The sitting area is nothing fancy and maybe a bit shabby chic without the chic. Overall, it is homey, tasty food and fine for a place to eat if you are in the area. In addition, the staff is very pleasant and helpful.

We walked into Mrs. B’s after visiting The Civil Rights Museum. Southern food was definitely on our mind. My friend and I are from DC and San Diego so this was really going to be unique. We told the gentleman at the counter, «we are not from here…» He quickly said«I know». As in we visibly gave off a tourist aroma. We ordered the black eyed peas, BBQ chicken, macaroni and cheese, dressing, peas, and beef tips. The food was authentic. The chicken was moist with a orange tangy sauce like none I’ve had before. The beef tips were drenched in a flavorful rich sauce full of flavors. I recommend this to you especially if you are taking in the sites in Birmingham.

Got a tip from someone at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to come here… I can only say this: Best. Chicken. Ever. If you have not been here, you have not had the best fried chicken ever.
