I was excited about coming there and try their food after all the good reviews. Don’t be fooled. This place is a landmark but the food isn’t great. If you’re looking for cheap food at a low price then come here but if your looking for really great food I would suggest going somewhere else.

Ok so I decided to try fifes again but this time I came for the hot bar for lunch. The food once again was amazing. I had baked chicken, greens and dressing(sorry I forgot to take a picture… that’s how HUNGRY I was) lol. The only disclaimer I have is that the cashier at fifes was very UNPROFESSIONAL!!! She was cursing like a sailor saying the N word several times while talking to another worker and even asked the a couple who were leaving if they left a tip!!! Really??? Who does that!!! I honestly wanted to get up and leave… I hate doing negative reviews but I hope the owner sees this and takes action. FOOD= A+ CASHIER=FFFFFFFF Saturday 06÷18÷1612:54pm (Sitting in fifes parking lot as we speak)

This is a local restaurant with that home town feel. Lots of breakfast options and good service.

This is the best option if you want a good Southern breakfast downtown. Plenty of all options all done to perfection. May be a wait but it’s well worth it.

Had lunch here at my mom’s request but we will never go back! This place is a Birmingham landmark and she remembered the food being very good, but what we got was a very slow cafeteria line and bland food that seemed to come straight from the can. If you are in the mood for a meat &3 I suggest Niki’s West or Tracy’s.

Took a group of 506th graders here after visiting the Civil Rights Museum. They thoroughly enjoyed the food and the friendliness of everyone. We will definitely be back for our next trip here. I already plan to come back myself next time that I am in Birmingham.

The old lady that works the register is a b. No personality at all. Pretty sad i was excited about coming here Ill bump it up to an 2 because food was ok. The lady at the door was really nice. She should work the register. The old lady at register tried to be nice at the end because u could tell she knew she was rude

I was looking for a local place to have breakfast before flying out and I found this place on Unilocal. I got two eggs over medium with Smoked Sausage and Hash Browns. The eggs were cooked as requested. The smoked sausage is very good, has a little heat and good flavor. The hash Browns were also very good. The Biscuits were amazing, soft and warm, light and fluffy, and were excellent with jelly. The portion was perfect for breakfast. The staff were very friendly and the food is served very fast. I guess this place is not in a nice neighborhood so use discretion, but we had no problems and felt safe.

The food was alright. Meatloaf could’ve been thicker instead of a thin slice. Black eye peas was good and seasoned well. Fried green tomatoes needed some salt. They served good banana pudding to my liking. I probably try there breakfast next time.

This is one of the best deals in town for meat and three… and breakfast. My family has been eating here for years for dinner, but today was my first experience with breakfast. You can not beat the value for the amount of food that you get. Mom ordered the cured ham, scrambled eggs and grits. I ordered the two pancake and bacon breakfast with a side of scrambled cheese eggs. Our food was brought out within ten minutes of our entrance, and we were wide-eyed at the mouth watering goodness we saw as our waitress delivered our food. I had two fluffy buttermilk, golden brown pancakes and four thick slices of hickory smoked bacon. My mom had the largest piece of seared ham you ever want to see and almost a plate of home-styled grits. With mom’s coffee, my water and the two entrees, our total came to $ 15 and some change. Fife’s really knows how to do breakfast the right way-cheap, fast and delicious!

I had the two pancakes and bacon. It was enough food to share with someone else and it was delicious!

This place was good, not the best breakfast I have ever had, but here are the highlights(we only went for breakfast). No line on a Saturday about 10:30 am Biscuits were good Bacon was great but portions are very large for one person on the bacon side and it was a bit chewy vs crunchy The pancakes were thick and truly cake-like Eggs were very well cooked Restaurant was clean and service was excellent, server even asked us at the end of we wanted to-go waters The coffee was good, and this is picky, but I wasn’t a fan of the coffee cups– easy to spill and short with wide mouths Don’t expect any fancy coffee, just regular and decaf is available Overall the place was good for the price. Parking is a side lot and we had no problem parking. Breakfast ends at 11, lunch starts at 10:45(which is buffet vs the breakfast which is served).

Great breakfast! When you first walk in, you may think that you made a mistake that you will regret, but I assure you, you’d be wrong. I was seated in the back dining room and was surrounded by locals. My waitress was nice, without being overly friendly. Just what you’d expect at a true local diner. Now, being from NJ, I know something about diners. Let me tell you, the coffee was just bad enough that it was great! I perused the menu, but had already made up my mind that I was going to eat like the locals. That means a lot of food… a lot of GOOD food. I got a breakfast combo that included eggs, homefries, smoked sausage, bacon, and biscuits. The biscuits weren’t ready yet, so my server told me I could wait if I wanted them. When I asked her if they were good enough for the wait, she simply said, «You’ll wait,» and walked away. Boy, am I glad. The service was good down-home friendly, with biscuits that I’d stick my foot in! The food was fabulous with just that right amount of greasy-spoon grease. You’re not going to get healthy eating here, but you’ll definitely get happy. Seriously, just great!

If you’re looking for friendly service, genuine down home cooking, and reasonable prices, then this place is for you. I went hoping to catch what I heard is a phenomenal brunch, only to arrive too late. Instead, I received a phenomenal lunch: baked chicken, black eyed peas, and boiled cabbage. The staff was more than eager to help, made me a cup of coffee to go before I left, and let me peruse the breakfast/brunch menu for next time. And, oh, there will be a next time. I left feeling like I’d made new friends.

There is no better restaurant in Birmingham for down-home breakfast. Every time I am home I try to work it into my schedule. On Saturdays it can get pretty busy and the wait to get food a bit extended, but you can’t beat the portions of food for the cost.

Every time I hear Birmingham I automatically think of good southern cooking. And upon my visit that is just what I was expecting, southern homestyle meals. I found it… Fife’s well thanks to my future in-laws they knew just the right spot to recommend. I was in for a surprise. Now the building sits downtown in a run down area. BUT don’t let the building fool you. It was just the right place. I am a breakfast person and I enjoy a good meal. I ordered cheese grits, bacon, eggs and toast. Everything was perfect… and not to mention the sweet tea! Mmmmm… I went twice while visiting and I would definitely go back again. If you are ever in the area please make a visit.

We stopped in for breakfast Saturday instead of going to Bogue’s and we were very pleased with the food and service for about $ 15 plus tip. She had two eggs, bacon, biscuits and hasbrowns while I had the same except smoked sausage. Next time I would go with bacon or maybe patty sausage as she probably got 5 pieces of bacon vs Bogue’s 2. The eggs were also cooked perfectly over medium as requested. Fife’s is old school and not much on décor but for the price, quality and quantify of food, it was perfect.

Nothin’ fancy here, just traditional southern home cookin’(grease and all) for an affordable price. Fife really doesn’t try to impress, so don’t go in expecting a chic diner atmosphere, but what they lack in aesthetics and professionalism, they make up in familiarity and food. The waitresses treat you like family(take that as you will), and as such, don’t mind fixing your plate just the way you like it. Their pancakes are nice and thick and all their breakfast meat is pretty good. The pan sausage is actually the best I’ve had in a while. Also, the portions are big, so keep that in mind when ordering.

Down and dirty(no actual dirt!), Fife’s is a git ‘er done sort of breakfast place with a short list of what they do and don’t do. I opted for two pancakes with bacon plus coffee. What ordered was a stretch. Those two pancakes were big. Like 8 or 10 inches across. Each! And there were 6 pieces of bacon on the separate plate. I managed to eat half of the two pancakes and two pieces of bacon. I did drink four cups of really good coffee though! And for $ 10 including tip? That’s a deal! Yes, free wifi!
