I have never just walked in without some sort of event going on, so I can’t vouch for how many people usually hang out here or how much fun it would be outside of an event. That being said, I have been to numerous events here from the Witches’ Ball to Secret Stages to a sideshow, and have always had a great time! Even when crowded, the bar staff are awesome… very fast and friendly service. The liquor drinks are not going to be anything special, but I do love the beer selection… lots of good German beers to choose from. We finally tried a bit of the food the last time we went. I have heard good things about it, and the red potatoes that we had definitely lived up to it! Hope to try more food in the near future. Check their calendar to see what they have going on, because they have hosted some really fun events!

My first experience with Das Haus was last night at their Oktoberfest. There was a $ 10 dollar cover. It allowed you to order their traditional German food which varied from $ 6-$ 15 a plate, beer which cakes from $ 5-$ 10 and access to their German band. The beer was great they even make some of their own cream lager which is worth a try. They didn’t have very many«boots» which was unfortunate because everyone was waiting on people returning them. The band was a cute traditional German folk band, and the food was decent. I am only giving this place 3 stars as it’s a little cheesy, the decorations are a little over the top and you didn’t really get anything special for paying $ 10. I will definitely come back here when it is free to get in as their beer was very good, and it’s sort of charming. Just definitely not worth that high of a cover.

I had liked this place at one time because of the annual Oktoberfest but I stopped going after learning what seems to be a strong association with a pagan/witchcraft bookstore/coffeehouse known as «Books, Beans & Candles». Events related to the bookstore such as «The Witch’s Ball» take place around Halloween & its definitely not your average costume party. This is suppose to be a German club promoting German culture and not something that completely contradicts it. If the pagans want to have their events in a rented hall, conference center, or their temple, fine. The point of my post is not to condemn any particular groups but I think businesses need to be up front of who they are and not hide anything from anyone. Thank you.

During the Secret Stages event in Birmingham we dropped by to watch a band and have a beer. The beer tasted terrible. We couldn’t even finish it. The place looked dirty as well.

Paid this place a visit on a whim, and felt terribly uncomfortable the entire time we were there. It was evident that this is an alternative place, considering the entertainment for the evening consisted of a trashy burlesque show(there’s a difference between classy burlesque and trashy) and a performance from«CarnEVIL.» The unwelcome looks we kept getting from(what I assume are) the regular patrons unnerved us, and we decided it was time to leave when the performers decided they wanted to «summon a demon» right there in the bar. We’re both willing to get out of our comfort zone and try new things, but that was just too far for us. Reading the other reviews, I think we hit this place on a bad night, but it was enough to keep us from marking this off of our list of places to return to.

This place is a hidden gem. Staff was overly friendly and helpful in selecting beer, and the food was excellent. Menu is very limited, usually only a few items, not even enough for an actual menu, but very well prepared. They swap their menus out, but always have Brats available. I was able to try two of the best tasting beers I’ve ever had, and I highly recommend them. Not very crowded, but I don’t know why. Also, they host events here, so look them up on Facebook and see what’s goin on in the future.

If you would have told me there was an authentic German Bar in Birmingham I would have looked at you like you were crazy. I really had no idea this place was in town and I am really glad I have been there. The bar area is pretty small but that is easily forgiven with the huge selection of German Bottled Beer they have. I was able to get a Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier that was absolutely amazing. I also got their Brat with Kraut and German style potatoes and it was one of the best Brats I’ve had in awhile. The seating area is large and they have a small stage with a dance floor that I’m sure has some great German music from time to time. Check this place out for sure. You won’t be disappointed.

Weird place, mostly in a good sense. Nice people around. Smiling cordial faces is always a big add on. Food is actually well done an tasty! Although, it is poorly presented on a plastic plate. Good selection of not-easy-to-find authentic German(bottled) beers. Big add on! A lot of space(mostly empty), it looks half a garage half a nice pub. Suggested for a good beer and a bratwurst with your own big party of people.
