Solid little ice cream shop. Spent most of my summer sweet tooth cash right here. The best thing is they don’t just have soft serve, but they have character ice cream bars(like spongebob, Dora, Spider-Man, etc). They have two bench tables on the side, and they also have a parking lot which I think is cool since its literally in the corner of nowhere.

5.50 for two half full small yogurts plus snotty attitude from some high school girl. Makes me homesick for some Doozies in Mt. Pleasant.

Decent soft serve joint. Quality is good and staff is always pleasant. I get sick of places not taking debit/credit cards though. C’mon people, get with the times. It is a small convenience to not inconvenience your customers.

Everyone needs to lighten up a little. Dairy Mat is great. Yes it’s convenient. Parking is scarce, but not a problem if you walk. And if you’re not close enough to walk, then you can pick any of the 100s of other soft serve places on every corner in every suburb. I gave it four stars ’cause it’s soft serve, c’mon. Keep it simple: vanilla dipped in butterscotch, or orange-vanilla swirl. If you’re not smiling after that, go get some ice cream at the store, go home and eat it with a scowl. I can’t help you.

I like the variety they offer. Their waffle cone is really good. However, I was not too thrilled with the service. The employee helping me today was very rude because I did not have cash on me(not sure why they don’t accept credit or debit) and got upset when I said I have to get cash from my car(which was parked about 2 parking spaces over). The location is ideal and is very convenient.

Oh Birmingham… Even your old school ice cream shop is overpriced. And the parking sucks. But otherwise, I was pretty pleased with my frozen yogurt. They serve frostyogurt frozen yogurt which I absolutely love. Its a throwback for me, I spend many summer nights eating frostyogurt brand at Yoz in my high school days(it doesn’t seem like they serve it anymore). They have a full menu, but I just settled for a cone. Cash only. Not bad for a overpriced summer treat, but hey, gotta fit in with the neighbors!

Vanilla cone dipped in cherry or their creamsicle is good. Cake batter flurry = so good it makes you sick afterwards.

I think this is the second-best place you can get ice cream in Birmingham, next to Oberweis. I go here after softball, after shows and whenever. It’s cold, good, and everyone likes it. There’s something for everyone. And if you wait long enough, you’re sure to see someone you know(if you live around here). Yes, I come here out of habit, I think pretty much everyone does for the sake of convenience, but I really don’t think the soft-serve is bad. I think it’s very fairly priced for what you get.

Dairy mat is a great place for cones and cups, sundays and splits, shakes and flurries. They process orders quickly. It’s really the best soft serve place on Woodward!

Really the only good thing Dairy Mat has going for it is its location. I believe they changed ownership a few years back? Great place to stop after a sporting event for the little ones(since they won’t notice the difference between quality ice cream and mediocre ice cream). Even if you do stop, its ALWAYS crowded in the evenings during summer and there isnt anywhere to sit if you don’t snag one of the two tables… I concur with the previous posters, I keep coming back just because its convenient., tsk.

Not good. Try Dairy Deluxe down the street.

I am going to have to go ahead and agree with lifeliver on this one. Dairy Mat is the spawn of laziness. It’s always super crowded(apparently we support laziness here in Birmingham) and the ice cream is much much better at Dairy Deluxe. The soft serve here tastes a little bit like frozen yogurt version of skim milk– kind of bland. I’m sure I’ll hit it up this summer, but that’s just because I am too afraid to ride my bike all the way down Woodward to D Deluxe.

how can you mess up soft serve? well, dairy mat does! ok, i am being a little harsh but i have been becoming here for years and I am always dissatisfied when i leave. why do i go then? it’s convenient. this soft serve has no flavor. 2 minutes south on woodward there is a better option — Dairy Deluxe!
