The Birmingham Civitan Club began in 1917 by local Birmingham businessmen who wanted to make a difference here, and has the distinction of being the «Mother Club» of Civitan International. In the 1950’s, Civitan adopted a special emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities. Our major flagship project is support of the Civitan International Research Center at UAB, a center for research into developmental disabilities and brain disorders.
