If your looking for a nice place to hang with friends, watch a drag show or do karaōke this is a great place. They have a large covered patio that also has a bar open on busy nights. Bartenders and staff are very friendly. My favs or Tim and Brandon. When it comes to alcohol they pretty much have it. including wine. Mark does a great job managing and it definitely shows. If your from our of town and looking for a gay bar definitely come here. Drag shows are always entertaining.

Al’s is a place that you can go to get a pretty good price on a drink. They have karaōke some nights, which is always fun. I love the back patio and usually spend most of my time there. They charge a $ 5 cover on the weekends, when they have drag shows. Since most of the same performers can be found at Our Place for free, we don’t generally pay the cover here. Overall, a good place to hang out with friends!

I have mixed reviews about this place. This place has gone through several name changes… the drinks are resonably priced and a ok place to go with friends. I do not like to go as much on weekends because its too crowded and they charge a cover charge. I know they have drag shows on the weekends but have not really seen any there latley.

A Great and Fun bar. Had a very good time Friday night. The drag shows were FABULOUS and the bartenders very friendly… and they pour a very stiff drink. Will definitely go back the next time I’m in Birmingham !!!

I’m a bit outraged to pay a $ 6 cover charge to enter an EMPTY bar unless there is professional entertainment. …And no local drag queens don’t count as professional entertainment.

This bar/club has gone through a few name changes since I moved to Birmingham 6 years ago-Lakeshore Yacht Club, Joe’s On Seventh, and now it’s most recent incarnation, Al’s on Seventh. While there wasn’t much change between Lakeshore and Joe’s, there was a tremendous amount of change(at least in décor) from Joe’s to Al’s. It’s much sleeker, more inviting, good use of interior and exterior space. There’s a covered back patio area for smokers now that Birmingham has gone smoke free-even as a smoker myself I appreciate that. Bathrooms usually seem fairly clean, I really like that they’re 1 person per bathroom at a time. Drinks are moderately priced, pours are controlled(which has its plusses and minuses in my opinion). There’s a fairly decent sized dance floor and stage area(for those bold enough to be more in the spotlight). My biggest grievance-and this, sadly, is not limited to just Al’s in the Birmingham area-the drag shows go on FOR.EVER. And ever. I’d be less inclined to call that a minus if A/the drag queens were spectacular and B/there were several different performers vs. usually only 2 or 3(the same 2 or 3 doing at least 2 songs). The truth is, the performers are typically mediocre, at best-I’ve not seen one yet that has knocked my socks off. On the whole, I think this is a great place to go, hang out, conversate with friends, have a few cocktails and do some fun people watching. Just be sure to head outside once the drag show starts.
