What a unique bookstore!!! Full disclosure: I am a bibliophile. Love books, bookstores, libraries. I love the smell of books. I love collecting books. (My Kindle is for Hearts and Spades and Solitaire.) This amazing bookstore has a very limited selection, but everything is signed by the author! And despite the limited selection, they had done very talked about books! Great authors! If I lived in Birmingham, if get all my gifts here. (Since I was only visiting Birmigham, I bought myself a treat — a signed Kazuo Ishiguro!)

Run don’t walk to this gem in Homewood, Alabama. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. The owner, Jake Reiss, is a treasure of the community.
I order all my books from Alabama Booksmith.
Even better is discovering a book on the store’s shelves. These works are signed by the author. I’ve got a tidy collection at home.
I’ve been a customer for about fifteen years. This bookstore is an oasis for any reader.

Tucked away down a backstreet in Homewood, it’s not the easiest place in the world to find. It’s a white unassuming trailer with some small signage. I was pleased to see how nice it was on the inside and was promptly greeted and helped. The books were neatly displayed and seemed to be signed, yet were the same price as unsigned books.
There were a ton of local selections and no shortage of Alabama and Auburn signed books. They won’t have every selection in the store, but you’re sure to find something that you’ll love. Plus I did see a sign that claimed they had a kazillion other titles that could be ordered.

I had such high hopes for Alabama Booksmith; their selection is rather lacking. The store seems to feature local writers, which turns out to be more of a popularity contest. Plus, the customer service is poor. The guys seemed pompous and uninterested in the books/subjects I was seeking.
