Just had a great dinner here. The food was over the top. The service was so good and friendly people ! Totally reminded me of a NYC steak house. Would come back here any time

Really, the best restaurant in town. If you have a Dad who complains about everything, this is the place I would choose. I took my mother here; it’s extremely good, reasonably priced fine dining. To get 5 stars they’ll have to establish an Au Jus Protocol.(As silly as that may sound) Every time I come here I get the prime rib, and no two times has it been identical. The meat is always on point, but the menu says it comes with Au Jus. Sometimes it arrives without it, sometimes on the side, and bizarrely enough(And my Dad would have flipped) one time the meat was practically swimming in Au Jus. They made a bath out of the stuff and put the meat in the middle. That only happened once, but that was a head scratcher. The Mrs mixes it up and has never been disappointed. Thumbs up for the authentic bread. Another thumb up for the house made butter. Dessert is always great, Number 5’s a date.

Don’t waste your money. Not worth it. Went last night. Ordered the petite filet and shrimp. Kind of surf and turf. It was one of the special of the day for $ 42. 3 shrimp and small piece of meat very tuff had a hard time cutting it with a steak knife. I was not able to chew it. Very blend flavor. Believe me Outback would have been a better choice. Very disappointed. Not worth it

Excellent prime rib. Huge to say the least. Excellent Greek filet. Everything was great and the service top notch. I have been to many«high end«resturants through out the country. This is among the top easily.

A fun place in Binghamton. The atmosphere is kind of similar to Lost Dog Café but there are a lot more older people(over 50) hanging out. We sat at the bar and enjoyed their happy hour. It’s a great deal! Especially the half off appetizer is great. I got Panko fried oysters which came with nice salad and it was only $ 6.50! Definitely recommend going there during the happy hour, Monday through Friday 4 – 7!

Well first time back in 20+ years and… I must say very very very disappointing. I knew what I wanted walking into the restaurant. Two items I had been looking forward to — big mistake. Yes my fault on one item for not even reading the menu. French onion soup — bland. What the heck happened to that delicious rich deep flavorful crock that I enjoyed over and over again once upon a time? Progress — doubtful because they have gone the wrong way on taste — bummer. Secondly, Cobb salad — well this one is my fault for ordering without reading the menu. Why would I possibly think a restaurant would change the most awesome salad known to man. Well they did — progress? How could it be when they went in the wrong direction. Once place in front of me it literally broke my heart. How am I possibly going to get goodness in each fork full when pieces are as big a transatlantic transport. Where is that delicious blue cheese bite — nope not here. Where is the delicious Greek dressing that was so masterfully tossed with all those finely chopped pieces. Oh salads aren’t dressed in informed from our waitress. Things change — prices increase, items get dropped for prices — etc. etc. Truly truly a very disappointing experience. 20+ years later and now I know — my fault totally to expect an experience like the old days when things had flavor and dishes were prepared without regards to cost but prepared they way they were because of taste — if that’s what your looking for keep looking because you won’t find it here.

I had a greek chicken with feta and spinach. Dry dry dry, even crunchy… way over salted. Very expensive and definitely not worth a revisit…

Up until this week we always had a good experience at number 5. This weeks visit was frustrating Friday at 630 pm. 3 people at the hostess podium. We took a café table in the bar area right by the hostess podium. We waited 15 min for someone to ask if we wanted a drink –all the while the 3 «greeters» stood there chatting amongst themselves. No offer to ask if we had been waited on. There was 1 server for the entire bar area which was full We went in for dinner but because of the overwhelmed 1 waitress we went with simple oysters and sandwiches which were good-prime rib and lobster roll. My husband ordered a dozen raw oysters as an app which were on special for $ 1.5 each They arrived in two orders of 6. Ok no big deal The waitress charged us $ 28 for a dozen oysters. When we politely showed her the error 12×1.5 =$ 18. she said …“oh you pay more if you get it on 2 plates and break up the dozen”. What what??? We never asked for it to be split she decided that for us. Ridiculous

Great Food. Wonderful staff. Calamari is excellent. Best place for food in the area. This is my second time here. I love the fact they make you feel like family. Thank you number 5

This is the third time I’ve been to Number 5. I’ve never had a good experience here. I keep coming back because I’m new to Binghamton and everyone seems to like it. It’s always busy. Maybe people have forgotten what good food tastes like or maybe they’ve never experienced really great food(like the amazing dinner I’m having at Loft 99 right now). Really dreadful food that is way too expensive. Shameful.

Great food but very pricey. I’ve been going there for years and they seem to have a very high turnover with the wait staff. Generally young people getting started in the restaurant biz but they always seem to do a good job and are pleasant. Food has been consistent for 10+ years. Great steaks and sauces. Good caesar salad, great apps– love the BBQ bacon wrapped shrimp even at $ 14 for 4 shrimp(ouch). My buddies like the deserts although I don’t have a sweet tooth so I’ll have to trust their opinion.

My favorite place for a nice meal. Upscale atmosphere with top notch food. The service is also best in town, which on average is sub par so it’s refreshing to come here and remember what good service is like. I can’t come here and not order a steak. I love the ribeye that has a great sauce/jam to compliment it. Their daily special butters are great with the bread, my favorite is the cherry pepper one. They also have bands downstairs Friday and Saturday which usually draws a good crowd. Bar menu is also good, especially the filet tips sandwich

You know, there is such potential here. Great setting — an old firehouse… the place looks great, feels great to sit at the bar which is situated in the middle of the whole downstairs, table seating all around it. Upstairs two more dining rooms, the bathrooms and kitchen? No elevator — not sure how accessible it is. DELICIOUS complimentary homemade chips at the bar, but that was probably the best food we had. Over rated. My husbands cowboy cut steak was so grizzly and fatty that I’d say 1⁄3 of it went to waste. The flavor wasn’t there either. when I think of a rib eye — bone in, that’s the tastiest meat you can get — but not so. Someone else at the table had the prime rib and was very pleased with it, looked good to me, nice thick cut and very rare, but I did not taste it. Salads were lack-lustre. My French onion soup was very good, the highlight of my meal, a little kick of cayenne maybe and the provolone was perfect on it. My husband had the lump crab cocktail… the flaked crabmeat was anything BUT lump… and not enough of it lost in the too much lettuce on the plate. My main course was risotto mushroom and wild rice with grilled shrimp… I love risotto for its creaminess, it’s comfort-foodiness… What I had here was a big bowl of pasty, bland mush with a couple of over cooked shrimp. I was actually angry, the anticipation of a good meal and what I got here, well: 2 stars.

‘Meh’ is about right. It’s odd: I think that the restaurant did everything they aimed to do, and yet the end result is a 2-star review. This was a one-off visit: in Binghamton for the first time, reviews seemed OK and it was close by. Reservation and front-of-house staff were great. Server was OK: overly stuffy and obsequious but I think that was probably the intent. Big problem was the steak, which is a fatal flaw for a steakhouse. Cooked correctly rare, great start. But: first, served not on a plate but an aluminium cooking tray that accentuated the tiny piece of meat. Then — the key — it takes real talent to douse something in rosemary, lemon and garlic and have it come out tasting so bland it was almost nothing. $ 38 for about 5oz of mediocre meat poorly presented and flavourless — this is the one-star bit of the review. Preceding salad was anonymous greens, nothing added. Bread was fine; butter was frankly poor, but all this stuff is ancillary to the steak(and the accompanying potato: again perfectly cooked and devoid of any garnish, interest, or flavour). The other entrée was a pair of again perfectly-cooked pork chops, again almost absent of flavour — the consistency really makes me think that they are aiming to avoid any possibility of offense at the cost of any interest or positive enjoyment. So I persuaded myself that the Grand Marnier carrot cake — a description causing me to salivate — was probably equally bland, and we left, markedly disappointed. I hope — and believe — that their regular clientele is getting what they want: but if it’s the food that you care about, go elsewhere.

This is probably one of the most upscale restaurants in the area. The atmosphere is particularly interesting because it is an old firehouse where there is dining service on the upper and lower floors as well as a full bar. Unfortunately over the years the quality of the food has diminished and the prices have continued to rise. If, however, you want a higher caliber menu and are willing to pay the price, this is a great place to take friends and Family, especially if they are from out of town. I recommend the French onion soup!

Being from TX I never thought in a million years I would find an amazing steak in a little town in NY. My filet mignon was to die for. Even better than Del Frisco’s. My husband had the Sea Bass and it was one of the best fish meals he has ever had. Go here and spend the money, it is worth it. They also have beer and wine flights at a good price so why not try something new with your meal! If we come back to visit we will be stopping here for sure.

This is one of the best restaurants to eat at in the southern tier in terms of food and service from the servers and bartenders. I used to bus here so i’ve seen it all. The reason why i’m giving it two stars is because it’s not sanitary. I’ve witnessed other bus boys pick up ice that fell to the dirty carpet and put it back in the water pitcher that’s poured into everyone’s glasses. I confronted that bus boy and he just gave me a shrug and went on with his day. That’s the restaurant’s fault for being cheap and underpaying. Because of that, only the lazy«need a temp job» kids work there. Pay a little more and they can hire better employees who won’t walk around feeling like they got gypped by the owner. The owner acts like he runs the town. Sometimes he’d ask some of the busboys to clean the bathroom too when the toilet gets clogged up. Of course, their reactions are always«gtfo you’re paying me $ 7.50/hr». The servers are mostly wonderful though. Food: 4.5 Service: 4.4 Ambience: 4.4 Cleanliness: 1.0

Had a great restaurant week experience. The restaurant itself is awesome with its dark décor and romantic ambiance. The service is nearly top-notch and everyone is really friendly. The food was delicious and the dishes were well-timed. Hot towels at the end were a nice touch.

While visiting Binghamton, my friend and I were looking for a nice steakhouse and came across Number 5 Restaurant. Now, coming from New York City, I’ve been spoiled by top notch steak, and didn’t know what to expect from Number 5. We came on a Sunday evening, and the restaurant was very quiet. There is a downstairs sitting area, where one can watch the game, or upstairs, where it’s a classier atmosphere. We chose upstairs. First thing first… the staff here is super nice, and as good as they come in any high class restaurant(without the arrogant attitude). We were welcomed by the restaurant manager, and our waitress, Phylicia, was superb. She explained the menu very nicely, and was able to answer any questions we had without rushing us. I give the service a 5 out of 5. On to the food. We started with the Fried Calamari. Pretty good as I expected. For our entrée, I decided to go with The ‘Original” Greek Tenderloin. It was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. I enjoyed every bite of it. The only negative was that I thought it had a little too much oregano on top, which took away from the great taste of the steak. I wasn’t a big fan of the mashed potatoes that I ordered for a side, but I really liked the Gorgonzola Au Gratin potatoes that my friend had. For desert, we had the Flourless Chocolate cake with vanilla ice-cream. I loved it and thought it was excellent. I would give the food 4 out of 5 stars. The décor and atmosphere of the 2nd floor of the restaurant was very sophisticated and elegant. There’s not a ton of space, but that was fine since it was very quiet when we visited. I would give the décor a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Overall, I really enjoyed this steakhouse. I wish Unilocal allowed a 4.5 star rating, because that’s what I would give it, but since I can’t, I’ll give it a 5 since I think the restaurant deserves better than a 4 star rating. Yes, the restaurant is a little pricey(what nice steakhouse isn’t?), but I think it’s right for what they serve. I’m glad that we dined at Number 5, and look forward to coming back in the future.
