Just being honest, it depends on the day… Sometimes food is OK, many times it’s not. A few years ago, the food and service was much better, and the birthday club was a nice touch– would bring the whole family on birthdays to get the free birthday meal, while the rest of us still racked up a nice order for the night. Honestly, that feeling of people glad to see you is no longer there for me anymore… Kinda sad.

Checked this place out on a Tuesday for bowling. Got there right before 9pm which was perfect because at 9 a bunch of college kids showed up and the place was packed. They have bowling specials and drinks specials through the week. Definitely a decent place to spend some time with friends. Avoid the dessert pizza it’s a thin crust with a bunch of frosting and cinnamon sugar dumped on it. There was a DJ in the bar and it was pretty packed but we didn’t get a chance to go check it out.

While visiting friends in Big Rapids, we decided it would be fun for us to go bowl a couple of games. When we arrived, we went to the front desk and were treated in a very rude manner by a woman that seemed in her mid 60’s. This included snark comments and a short tolerance for questions. Other than our experiences at the counter, the bowling alley was in exceptional condition and the arcade was filled with many entertaining games, and we enjoyed the rest of our visit.

Located inside of The Gate. Asked the waitress if they would accept a gift certificate that was bought online and she said«of course!» so our bill met the requirements of the certificate but then she said the manager told her they no longer accept them. No place was it posted that they didn’t accept them and we would not have ordered $ 30 worth of food if we couldn’t use the certificate. The Philly sandwich didn’t even have anything on it even though there were several things listed on the menu that were supposed to come on it. It was meat and bread.

Went bowling on a rainy summer day while visiting family. There seemed to be one girl up front working as hard as she could and then maybe a cook and manager(hiding in the back maybe). One more person up front was needed badly… We were forced to switch lanes twice due to malfunctions and even on our final switch we had a lot of trouble. Anyone looking for frustration free and accurate scoring should look elsewhere… since we were with the kids it was still a fun environment, but could have been better for the price. Finally, the pizza wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be.

I’ve been there a few times. It’s a bar/bowling alley. I’ve had a burger there and wasn’t impressed. I ordered grilled onions on it and paid extra for it but when my burger came there was barely any onions on it. They have an awesome fish bowl drink that I loved to get to celebrate being done with finals!

I graduated in ’08 from Ferris and that really wasn’t that long ago but going to The Gate makes me feel old school. It’s just not Big Rapids style so I can’t get into it. I do appreciate that coming from a much bigger town(Denver), The Gate made me feel like I was back in the civilized world. But more goes into a good business than being pretty and new. I was at The Gate over homecoming weekend and what ended up being the last game in the Tigers series for the year. We went to The Gate to watch the game since its a sports bar but we were super disappointed to find out that they didn’t even have the sound on. Before we left one of the girls in my party asked for a fruity martini drink and the waitress said«uhh yeahh we don’t have those… but we have margaritas!?» WTF?! There is a full bar and since when are margaritas and martinis even slightly interchangeable. We should have run then but for some reason we didn’t. After she got her drink she pounded it back and we tried to leave to go somewhere that was playing the game… with the sound. 30 mins later after asking 2 other waitresses for our check/waitress, we finally got up to leave and just left cash on the table to cover the bill. I would understand if it were busy but we were one of two tables in the eating area.
