Nawal’s Mediterranean Eatery is a true gem! I’ve always loved coming here and I’ve always enjoyed the food. Nawal comes from an Egyptian background so her food has an authentic feel to it. I also love how Nawal comes out to meet her customers and she takes there satisfaction personally. So if there’s anything that you don’t like about you visit, I guarantee that Nawal will not stop until you leave happy. Egyptian tea: I was hesitant to try this because so many foreign teas are bitter. This tea is not bitter at all! A little bit of sugar and this tea easily ranks as a favorite now. Lentil soup: this is never a disappointment! Very creamy with bold flavors. Lamb gyro: not many places can pull off an authentic lamb gyro but Nawal does it! The rich buttery flavor of the lamb perfectly complements the fluffy pita and the sauce has such a creamy, rich flavor. Peanut Butter and Chocolate cupcake: a bit of heaven! Of course peanut butter frosting is my favorite. Nawal’s cupcakes are moist, fresh, and delicious! Critique: they’re a bit sweet so be ready for it. It’s perfectly paired with coffee to tone down the sweet and also perfect for sharing.

We’re on our way there and have yet to order anything because we’re on the bus to big rapids but we have high hopes and what can i say? The vibe seems right y’all! I’m a big fan of middle eastern cuisine.

Was very excited for a cupcake place in town when they first opened but they taste store bought and not as good as Three Girls Cupcakes inside Pattersons Flowers! Haven’t tried the food. Owner isn’t very pleasant, also heard that from lots of big rapids residents.

Best food in Big Rapids! Great prices and Nawal is a wonderful chef and provides great services. Nawal even gives Ferris Students a college discount. Great local business to eat at.

Nawal’s is a hidden gem in Michigan! You must stop here for fresh, amazing food served with love by Nawal and her family. We enjoyed the gyro, kofta, potato salad and Turkish coffee. Everything tasted wonderful. And to top it off there is a beautiful selection of cupcakes, bread pudding, baklava and cookies. We even took some hummus and tabbouleh salad to go for our camping trip. And yes, the cupcakes are too die for!

I love this place! I was introduced to this place at work and have only got carry out. But, they are always very friendly and accommodating. I typically get a gyro and rice which has the perfect amount of meat and it is cooked well. It doesn’t taste like fair food, but a really gyro. Her lemon chicken soup is one of the best soups I have ever had. I also have had their cupcakes. They are pricey, but they are worth it. Most of them are filled and the cake is super moist. I would love to actually sit down here and will one day.

I am never disappointed with a stop to Nawal’s. For one thing, I always get a friendly greeting and a little chat with Nawal. The Turkish coffee is a unique treat, strong and sweet. Her salad is so refreshing, her soup is unique. Falafel, shwarma(chicken or beef), gyro’s, it’s all delicious. The food is always made to order, so fresh and hot, and of course, delicious. It’s hard to leave without a cupcake or some baklava to round off the meal, but you certainly don’t need it, because the meal doesn’t leave you hungry. Because everything is made fresh, make sure you have time to enjoy chatting with friends and savoring your meal.

Stopped by on the way south from the UP to visit a friend in Big Rapids, and was seriously impressed with this place. Long story short, fresh, homemade food, great cupcakes, nice people. There were three of us, and between us we had the fallafel, chicken schwarma, lentil soup, chicken soup, and the lamb gyro, plus cupcakes to go. Everything was freshly prepared, flavorful, and interesting. I am not a gyro person, but I had a bite of my friend’s and it was not the typical crappy shaved meat you get at a lot of places. To an earlier reviewer’s comment about the the soup — ours was fantastic. Obviously homemade and perfectly seasoned. The only note of complaint was the fallafel — overall, it was excellent, baked and not fried as many places do it, but it was a bit too salty. The cupcakes are out of this world. We had the margarita, piña colada, champagne, and chocolate mint and while all were good, the piña colada is likely the best cupcake I have ever had — moist, flavorful, and tasting exactly like a piña colada. Our friend told us service when they are busy can be a bit slow(everything is homemade, so understandable), but when we were there food came out promptly. The owner is delightful, and the service eager(if a little TOO helpful at times). The only reason I am deducting a star is they were out of two things we wanted to try. Highly recommended.

Came in from the rain to meet a friend for lunch, and the Egyptian tea warmed me right up. Kofta came recommended from the waitress and was excellent! I always enjoy the cupcakes, but unless I’m taking them home I find that they’re big enough to happily split.

I had lunch there last Saturday with my family. We were there visiting my niece. I have to say I was totally impressed with this restaurant. The food is fantastic and Nawal is so friendly. I felt like I was visiting a friend or family member’s home. I will definitely be back. Being from the Chicago area!, there are many Mediterranean restaurants here and Nawal’s is as good or even better! Check it out if you can. If you have room after the large portion of your main meal, check out her desserts.

Love Nawal’s. Often stop by for cupcakes and tea. Nawal is always friendly and takes a personal interest in her customers. Her café has been a great place to hunker down for a warm meal during this neverending winter.

One of my favorite places to eat. Nawals always come out from the kitchen to see how your meal is and to see what else you need.

First time visit. We wanted something sweet and we came to the right place! My wife had a coconut cupcake and I had the chocolate frosted cheesecake. Nasal the owner came by and chatted with us and the other customers. Not the cheapest bakery but well worth the visit. We’ll be back.
