Had a great experience at Bone-Side. Ron was super nice and accommodating, even when he was low on supplies. Gave us what he could and we had a great meal. Make sure you get there early. Dont rely on the closing time as a guideline. When the food is gone its gone, and it takes many hours to prepare, and is totally worth the experience when you are in town!

They’re always closed. This is the 4th time we tried… it’s noon on a Sunday and they’re closed!!!

This place is Fantastic. Words can’t express how good the ribs and sides are. The owner is so kind and will go out of his way to accommodate you. Friend from Texas said it’s the best bbq he’s had outside Texas. Anyone not giving 5⁄5 is probably another bbq owner hahaha

It’s one of the best BBQ place I have ever visited. The brisket is so tender and really tasteful. I would drive 90 miles to come back only for this BBQ.

This bbq was excellent and Ron is the man. He was closing down for the afternoon and he gladly opened his door for me and my girlfriend and fed us some delicious pulled pork(almost 1lb on the sandwich) and gave us a few ribs to sample(also delicious). This was extremely nice of him to do for us after a long drive! We will definitely be back next time we come to big bear! Thanks, Ron!

Stopped by recently and they have some of the best pork ribs we’ve ever had! Very meaty and tender. The brisket is awesome. Cole slaw is nice, not drenched in mayo, kind of lite which we liked. Wasn’t able to try the corn bread, but because they ran out they were extra generous on the BBQ. The people running this place are super nice also. We will definitely be stopping by on our next visit to the area.

The owner is extremely nice and the food was absolutely delicious. My girlfriend and I walked in on a whim and the owner was nice enough to let us taste a sample of each type of meat. All of the meats were amazing, but I especially enjoyed the ribs. The ribs were really juicy and had a great smoked flavor! The owner was so friendly he even allowed us to call in our order and pick it up at a later time to ensure we were able to try his food fresh

Tried to come here on Thursday after waiting all week. Was there at 11:30am and no one in sight. Just a closed shop. Called the number no answer. Drove by a couple of hours later and it was open :(What a bummer. Wish there was updated valid information.

Delicious BBQ! Came here today on New Year’s Day with my boyfriend and met the owner, Ron who was extremely nice, helpful, and personable. We had the brisket, baked beans, and cornbread(which was excellent!). I would absolutely recommend this place for anyone in town! Also please don’t be upset if they sell out, it’s BBQ people! Quality BBQ takes time :)

Having just recently moved from the South and being spoiled by endless award winning bbq options I was optimistic that this could feed my bbq craving but unfortunately I wasn’t impressed. Considering the limited options around it’s okay, but okay just doesn’t do it when you’re craving bbq.

Since moving to Big Bear Lake I’ve been looking for a place to get great ‘que. I’ve found it at Ron’s Bone Side Down. I’ve been grillin’ & smokin’ for decades and yeah, I know my way around a ‘que, but it’s nice to know that I don’t have to bust out my own equipment to enjoy a great pulled pork sandwich or some smokey succulent brisket. Plus, Ron’s a helluva nice guy. If you’re in Big Bear hit-up Bone Side Down.

Came back here after a 5-star experience earlier this year. Boy, totally different experience. Brisket was super dry to the point that no one in our group of 6 could finish it.(Ok, my dog finished it.) Ribs were small and very fatty, hardly any meat, not really seasoned requiring a lot of sauce. Coleslaw still good as was the potato salad. Baked beans last time were some kind of homemade recipe. Today, they were just slimy from-the-can style. Really disappointing.

Tender brisket, outdoor seating and friendly service. The seating area was full, so the owner led us to the«VIP» area: two adirondack chairs in the back under a fantastic shady tree. Very fast, casual and tasty lunch. We will definitely come back during our Big Bear stay.

This BBQ was so great — the pulled pork was tender, the brisket — well wow, how do they get that flavor — and the sauce delicious. They even gave us a few scraps for the dog! Nice people and service, outdoor seating.

I wanted to like this place because I love BBQ and this is one of those tiny little places that sells out by the end of the day. When we walked up another customer told us that we there is nothing bad on the menu. I got a pulled pork sandwich and my bf got the ribs. The pulled pork was nothing special but the BBq sauce was pretty good. The ribs were very disappointing. Not the fall off the bone ribs that you would want. The only thing I would rave about was the Mac n cheese. There is very little seating, minimal parking, and they sell out early afternoon.

Get the brisket!!! So delicious! And the BBQ sauce was perfectly tangy and not too sweet. Be sure to get there early if you want it(they can run out, because obviously meat this good takes time to prepare!). They have options to get combos with sides, but honestly, I just got a pound of the brisket and a side, and it was enough to feed two. Smokey, tender, tangy perfection.

This place is a joy to go to. Ron takes pride in everything he makes. I am not going to waste your time going through each dish. Just know that its all great. Just make sure you get there early as by 3PM most days it’s all gone. This is not a sit down restaurant. If you eat here there are only a few picnic benches otherwise it’s take away. Your food will be served in a take away container. I have been there at the end of the day and they will make me an every thing that is left plate and it’s the best way to get all the good stuff. Don’t be surprised if one day you walk up and they offer you a free beer with your meal. It has happened to me in the past. The only downside is that they have limited hours and days that they are open. Otherwise its all great.
