Barney’s Seafood

Having grown up in the area, I know how hard it’s getting to get decent fried clams and seafood at a reasonable price. But there’s a reason this place gets rave reviews and they are well deserved. This place is a throwback to the old «eat-​in-​the-​rough» places that are disappearing. Nothing fancy about Barney’s — just excellent seafood at very reasonable prices. We came for the fried whole-​belly clams and they did not disappoint. All the fried seafood came out a beautiful golden yellow color — and not greasy at all. The lobster roll was excellent — simply prepared without needless filler and tasted great. The portions were excellent and each plate cost about half of what’s being charged all along RT 1. To top it off, you get a wonderful warm greeting and fantastic customer service. Be prepared with cash as the credit card machine can be a bit finicky. But do try and find time to eat here — it’s well worth it. We’re already looking forward to going back.

This was my first lobster roll of my vacation and I’m afraid nothing else has compared. I wish I could go back and eat many more! Perfectly cooked tender lobster, perfectly dressed, perfectly grilled buttery bun — excellent service and very friendly.

We drove by in a driving rain storm and there wasn’t a car in the parking lot and my wife said she thought we would be better off to find some other place but I told her the reviews on Unilocal were very positive so she agreed to try it. We got a crab roll and fries and the clam strips and it was awesome. I have never had clam strips so good in my life being from Atlanta it’s just not going to happen. We got lobster rolls to go which we will have tonight for supper. The owner was great to talk to he suggested that he not put the lobster roll together but wrap the bun and put the lobster in a container so the roll wouldn’t get soggy and we could put it together. The prices are the lowest we have seen and he has live lobsters 5 for $ 33, 1lb., and 5 for $ 55, 1.5lb. Wish the store was in Atlanta.

Barney’s is the perfect Maine side-​of-​the-​road-​lobster-​roll. My husband and I each had one and we were impressed with the two guys who worked. Pros. I got my roll Connecticut style, just butter, and my husband got his traditional with mayo. Both were great. Ownership just changed recently and we just loved them and hope they do really well. We will totally hit them up again on our drive through town, something we find ourselves doing a surprising amount of time. A+ lobster roll vote from us.

Chose Barney’s seafood based on other users’ reviews and was pleased with the pricing, service, and quality of the food. The lobsters and steamers were delicious. The only complaint was a mishap with our order — we requested raw steamers to cook ourselves, but they turned out great even after a delay in eating our takeout order.

I’ve driven by this place for years, and finally thought of it today when we were deciding on dinner. It’s a pretty small place, with only a couple of picnic tables inside, but I think there was also outdoor seating as well. We ordered the Captain’s Platter to go, and it came really quickly (less than ten minutes). There was plenty to feed two adults and a toddler, and it was reasonably priced. I see no reason to go down to Pine Point anymore for seafood! We’ll be back!

This place was fantastic! I got the feeling it was a true local spot/​whole on the wall. We got the clam chowder, fried clams, and a lobster roll to go on our way to the beach. The guy at the counter was very helpful and everything was delicious! I would highly recommend it!

Quick update (12÷30÷15): Barney’s is closed until the spring.
Apparently the owner now lives close and he’ll be around for as long as the customers make it worthwhile. Honestly, this means the summer and maybe a month on either side of it. They do a good job cooking lobsters and frying seafood, though there’s not really much scenery to enjoy if you’re eating outside on one of the picnic tables. For me, they’re a convenient place to get some cooked lobsters to take home, and that’s what we do.

The best fried clams around! Barney’s is nothing fancy but they sure know how to cook fried clams. We ordered the whole belly fried clam basket. The clams were fresh, plump, juicy and cooked to perfection. Also had the lobster roll, good and large chunks of fresh meat.
