Ruben is the best! I have major problem hair, and it’s always been super challenging to find someone who knows how to handle it and give me the cut I want. Ruben knew exactly what to do from the moment I walked in! His cuts are awesome, the Agave smoothing treatment he offers is amazing, and his knowledge of products for your particular needs is exceptional. HIGHLY recommend him. He’s seriously the best!

I found him through Groupon. After reading the 50% positive n negative. I read ppl would get discriminate bc they go with their coupon. However, I decided to give him a change. The treatment he used works amazing, my hair was so damaged but with his treatment, it came to life. However, I been reading about the amazing job he has done on highlights. I’m heartbreaking BC since day one i told him what I want. I told him the bad experiences I had with unprofessional ladies. I even send him pictures. All that time so at the end I got something else. I’m really nice and patience person and don’t like to give a hard time to anybody. I was ok in front of him but when I got home I cried. I trust his word, I trust him since day day and reading some of the ladies review don’t know what to think. I would pay double if it was necessary, don’t recommend him. I have before n after pictures and you can tell it’s not the same.

I was looking for a new hair dresser and found a groupon for Ruben and decided to check him out.
Overall, I was really happy with my cut and color. The location is cool but definitely a hassle to park and get through all the craziness of that area of BH.
His location is in a umbrella of Salon 90 210 or something like that. It is a cluster of small salons in this really cool location. I loved walking through and seeing all the styling and cutting going on. Ruben is really nice. Initially, he seemed annoyed that I had a groupon and also wanted color on top of my cut even though I clearly mentioned that in my text to him when making the appt. He later seemed to relax and open up and I had a great time chatting with him.
We didn’t really discuss which color I wanted. I basically said brown and he mixed up a pretty dark brown. He is great with thick curly hair like my own. He didn’t seem overwhelmed or stressed about it at all and did an amazing job. It’s obvious he knows what he is doing and is very precise about everything.
The cut, color and blow out took about 2 hours. He blow dries your hair to make sure the cut looks good.
Parking is annoying in the area but they have some public lots that are free for the first two hours but afterwards it starts adding up.
I think I will be back – he knows his stuff and can tame the beast (my hair ;))

Ruben does a fantastic job catering to his customers’ desired styles while still contributing his knowledge, skills, and talent. I’m very picky when it comes to my hair (i.e. WHO does it), which is why I never got it done a lot in the past. But after reading reviews prior to my appointment, being welcomed by his warm personality, and seeing his skills in action, he definitely earned my trust. I love the cut and color on my hair — very fitting for summer without looking unnatural (medium bob and natural balayage)! He definitely surpassed my expectations. I highly recommend him!

Ruben did a terrific job with my cut and highlights — listened to I wanted but suggested tweaking the colour so it would pop a little more, and it turned out great.

Phenomenal hair color!
Ruben is extremely detailed and spends extra time making sure every strand of hair is colored and even and has the most beautiful tone. He listened to exactly what I wanted (soft natural blonde streaks woven throughout my hair while keeping my base color and helping re-​strengthen my overly processed hair). He recommended Ombré which turned out looking better than any highlights I have done before.
He is a hidden gem in Beverly Hills — he is friendly, very talented and I will absolutely be back.

Ruben is such an amazing artist. I say artist because what he can do with cut and color is pure talent. He is always accommodating and his salon/​studio in Beverly Hills is so personal and relaxing. There is no one else I would trust my hair to.

First & foremost, I want to thank the other Unilocal reviewers for Rubin. Your reviews convinced me to give him a try! I had found this shade of red that I loved! I went to my regular hairdresser and it just wasn’t right at all. I then went to a hairdresser a friend recommended and it went from bad to worse. I was basically told it couldn’t be done. But, I was so unhappy with my hair shade that I wanted to give it another try. I found Rubin and he called me back the same day. I told him of my dilemma, he re-​arranged his schedule to see me the same day. I showed him the picture and he was like «no problem». Now, mind you, I am not convinced yet that I will get the results I want, but I figured it couldn’t get worse, right? I cannot begin to tell you how AMAZING my hair looks! Rubin took the time, care and he really delivered! I am beyond grateful and just want to share my experience with you because maybe that will help another Unilocaler out there! And now I have finally found my hairdresser!

What can I say. A truly talented hairstylist and an awesome guy. Ruben really listens to what you want and spends time with you to achieve your desired goal. His precision and experience really shows and his great nature makes for an awesome experience. I have spent money at the most expensive salons in L.A. but Ruben always wins as he had always given me the best haircut.
As long as I’m in L.A. I’m never going anywhere else.

I agree whole-​heartedly with the other reviews: Ruben is the best hairdresser I’ve ever had! He truly listens to his clients and uses his awesome skills to make it happen. I have my hair colored red and as many people know, this is the trickiest hair color because it fades significantly from the first day to the last day. Ruben worked hard to come up with a color formula that would have me happy on Day 1 and equally happy on Day 30. This is a huge feat! He goes out of his way to pick up a special brand just for me because otherwise I would not be happy with the results. He does not put me under a dryer (which would save him time, but would damage my hair). In addition, he’s a very skilled cutter and stylist. He takes great pride in his work and wants his clients to be thrilled with his work. He is also a kind person and a wonderful friend. I always feel more relaxed and like I’ve had fun when I venture out to Beverly Hills to see Ruben. I found him by accident when my prior stylist stopped working. I was a walk-​in at his old salon and I’ve never looked back. This is a no-​brainer — if you need a new hairdresser, Ruben does not disappoint!

I never write reviews on Unilocal,but I had to write one for Ruben as he is truly the best hairdresser I’ve had. And having seen at least a dozen hairdressers over the last five years, I know good ones are hard to come by, which also prompted me to write this. So for those of you looking for a good hairdresser, I’m letting you know: see Ruben.
He listens to what you want, talks it over with you for clarity, and gets to work. His efficiency and focus is much appreciated, as many stylists will talk your ear off or dawdle and end up taking three hours to do what should have been done in half the time.
Not only does he deliver a killer haircut, but he also delivers a killer service. Ruben is super accommodating, kind, and takes true pride in his work. So much so that he saw me, similar to the other Unilocaler, two times to make sure my hair color was right. And he even stayed late and saw me a few weeks later to trim my layers, just so I could have my hair exactly the way I wanted it.
To boot, Ruben is a pleasure and very easy to be around. If you want to chat, he’ll chat with you. But if you want to close your eyes and relax, or read your emails and text on your phone, he’ll let you do your thing.
My one quibble is that he is expensive. But there is clearly reason for it. And to be this happy with my hair is worth the extra $$$.
If you want a great haircut, the perfect hair color, and a relaxing few hours spent with a really nice, talented guy then Ruben is your man!

I love Ruben! He has cut, colored (killer ombré) styled, deep conditioned, and recently added a few more highlights to my hair (in three separate visits) over the couple of months I’ve been going to him. I couldn’t be happier. He is awesome! He was even kind enough to re-​tone my color after a week or so when I felt it was too gold-​ish and now it’s a prettier ash blond in the lightest parts. He does it all really well, and he’s a hoot to spend a hour or so with. A real artist.

Ruben is AMAZING! I’ve been going to Ruben for about 7 months now, almost every 2 weeks. He NEVER disappoints. He is so knowledgeable when it comes to hair. He understands what it takes to have healthy hair, and he will only provide you with healthy hair treatments. I have naturally dark brown hair. I wanted to go blonde. In the healthiest way possible, with in a month and a half, Ruben highlighted my hair and toned it so beautifully enough that i looked like i had natural and healthy blonde hair. I also have olive skin and brown eyes, and he managed to make me look like a natural blonde. He is also incredibly honest. If he feels what is being done to your hair will not turn out well, he will let you know. He is all about customer service and what really is best for his clients and also what is in their best interest. He is also great at listening. If you tell him what you want, whether its a cut, wash, blow cry, dye job, high lights, curls, etc, he will hook it up to perfection. After being a client of Ruben Aguilar’s, I will NEVER go to anyone else for my hair. I trust Ruben implicitly and he is the only one I actually trust touching my hair. I recommend Ruben as a hair stylist for anyone of all ages and genders. I’ve seen him work on other clients and he is truly an artist!

I first found Ruben by Trubates and so glad I did!!. Ruben is amazing with cut and color!!! Ruben litsens to your wants and needs and is honest if he feels something is not right or won’t work. I took my 12 year old in with waist length hair for a hair cut and she loves the cut and told me she won’t go to anyone else. The salon is clean and friendly and they make you feel like family. I would recommend Ruben to anyone young or old!!!
