Not even worth 1 star! Had to give them 1 star in order to post a review. Gave them a second chance since my first time was carry-out. Which only happened because I was craving Mexican food and they are located 4 blocks from home. My experience in the restaurant was one of the worse ones. Waiter got the order wrong and even tried to ask«this is not what you ordered?» UH of course that’s not what I ordered, otherwise I wouldn’t have said anything. I order a lunch platter. 3 tacos with shredded beef. The beef was plain, rice and beans looked like they were microwaved. Food had NOFLAVOR. I had to use use hot sauce to be able to just eat one taco. That’s is all I ate, left 90% of my food on the plate. Bathroom only had COLD freezing water. I should have known not to come here once I saw that only 2 tables were being served during lunch time. Never coming here again!

Plaza Azteca was a nice evening out. I wasn’t blown away by the food or the service, but it was all in all fine. I think I still strongly prefer Guapo’s in Bethesda, but I can see Plaza A being a nice place for a quick or simple lunch. We got the beef rellena which was the standout; moist and seasoned really well. The chicken taquitos were dry and fairly underwhelming. The bacon pork fajitas were nice, but didn’t have a ton of flavor and the vegetables were more or less raw. The steak tacos were better. They had a lot more flavor than the other items.

Everything I’ve eaten at this restaurant is amazing, and the service is great. Love the enchiladas and flan!

Between a 3 and a 4. Nice combo Tex-Mex, Peruvian, and Carribean place behind Home Depot, with linen tablecloths and napkins, attentive service, good to very good food, but NO happy hour as advertised, and consequently overpriced for an early(430 pm) dinner. I forget exactly what I paid for a margarita, but it was the cheapest one they had, and I think it was $ 11(it was good though). The shrimp ceviche special tasted great in a light tomato-citrus broth and portion was fair for the price, although it was more broth than shrimp(used it to complement the free salsa that came with warm chips.) I ordered the masitas de puerco based on the menu description as «Cuban style morsels of pork marinated in criolla sauce and roasted in Sevilla’s bitter oranges» but there were no onions(criolla) despite the fact that I verified it’s presence on ordering(and the service person identified himself as the manager), and not a taste or piece of orange, Seville or otherwise, in sight. That was a major disappointment; although the pork itself was tender and tasty, it was merely braised(stewed), not roasted, and bland/not flavorful, and as stated, not served with any of the expected fruit or vegetables. Fried ice cream dessert was OK, but definitely not worth going out for. Overall good, but I can’t afford spending $ 40(I know its Bethesda, but that is overboard) here on a regular basis for food/drink I could get cheaper elsewhere, or easily make myself at home. An odd(only reason I mention it) thing I noticed was the demographic — the only patrons in the place were all women, middle-age and over,(and all the waiters were men) — maybe they just like the attention?

Love this place! We always get perfect service, and the food is superb. They offer a large variety of choices on their menu. My go to– the chicken tamales and chile rellenos. I have been here about ten times so far and we have never had a bad experience. A must try.

If you’ve ever been curious about Mexican food and wanted an introduction to it without feeling like a novice, then this place is for you. Tucked away in a small shopping mall, it’s rather nondescript. But inside is a tasteful space with white tableclothed seating, a booth area and a bar. It’s classy but low key. It’s casual with a friendly staff and good food. The lunchtime platters I’ve ordered have been tasty and served hot. Being able to watch TV without too much interruption from others is great as well. A nice spot to come to that is modest about what it is… a classy, casual Mexican restaurant.

I ordered the Lomo Saltado, sautéed strips of fajita steak in a special Peruvian sauce with tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeño peppers, green peppers, and French fries. The serving size was quite generous. I was thinking the French fries would come as a side order, but nope. Fries wear soaked in the Peruvian sauce with the meat and veggies. I ordered a virgin piña colada, and I saw a carpet fuzz in it. I didn’t bother to have that addressed; it was too hot of a day to complain about anything. Overall, it was a good meal.

I love this place, have been coming here for lunch for a few years, the food is always excellent, nice atmosphere and reasonable prices. It’s become my own favorite lunch spot. I haven’t been here for dinner, so I only have experience for lunch. It’s a nice alternative to pricier(and louder) places in Montgomery Mall.

Hooray! A solid«TexMex» location that is tucked away in a small strip mall by Home Depot and Montgomery Mall. I wandered in at the end of a long day and was greeted warmly by a few employees. My husband and I placed an order to go after a quick glance at the menu and sat at the bar to wait. We had a delicious(and not weak!) margarita and were given salsa and chips as we waited for the takeout. The dining room had a good amount of tables full for a Tuesday evening. We ordered chicken tamales: delicious and unique– chickpeas mixed in with the corn masa! Beef fajitas were sooo flavorful and tender. Finally, vegetable enchiladas were fresh and not boring at all. There were several accoutrements that accompanied our orders including black beans and pinto beans. The food was good quality and came at a very reasonable price. We will definitely return and try more things!

I was in the area for lunch and read the reviews on Plaza Azteca on Unilocal.I liked seeing a little Tex-Mex on the menu with a lot of seafood and other options. I had the Trucha Arcoiris(Trout) lunch special. It was fabulous! Make sure to get the sauce on the side as another repeat customer had recommended to me and she was right. The sauce was very, very good but would have been too much for my taste. As to service… excellent. The wait staff was in constant attendance despite getting busier as the lunch crowd increased. If I am in the area again this will be a must go for me.

Great food, excellent service and good value. A real find in a suburban shopping mall. Highly recommended

Don’t be fooled by the strip mall mom and pop category. This is a really good Mexican restaurant. Love the plantains, quest, ceviche, fajitas and carne asana. The various fish on the regular menu and specials may sound like a gamble(seafood in a strip mall Mexican place?) are always excellent. This is our Go-to place right up there with places like Guapos. Cactus Cantina… or other local standbys.

A really yummy texmex joint hidden in the middle of a strip mall joint. We arrived with party of 5 early in the evening so seating was not a problem. Service was fast and staff checked on us often. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas for the table which was delicious and portioned out to two cups each. Ceviche was delicious, guac was fine, carne asada was tender and flavorful, crab and spinach enchiladas were awesome and chock full of crab, rice was the best I’ve ever had, two types of beans for those who prefer one over another. Darn delicious and worth a try.

Menu is almost identical to El Mariachi, and food just as excellent. We had poor service sitting at the bar, but that was fine. Will definitely come back for tacos al carbon or fajitas. Salsa is the best around.

Went there this past weekend and had a Lobster special and boy all i can say is WOW! Although the portion was small the sauce they used to top off the Lobster was phenomenal. Great service, the place was packed but the staff promptly attended to us, took our order, kept checking back with us. About the 3rd or 4th time I dine here and definitely recommend. My wife and I loved out last visit.

The salsa is phenomenal. I’m not much of a reviewer, but still, I don’t give 5 stars to just any restaurant. I’m allergic to gluten and I never get sick here. A+

I can’t speak to the food — I never got that far. They were completely empty, but when I asked if they were still serving lunch, they said yes, so I took a seat. The waiter handed me a menu, but when he came but a couple if minutes later he said I could only order from the extremely limited«lunch specials» menu because they were no longer serving lunch. Say what? The only item without cheese was the fish, which I didn’t want. The waiter insisted they could not do the other dishes without cheese — I’m lactose intolerant, so after arguing the cheese issue for a minute I got up and went to the Five Guys next door, where I had a hamburger in under 5 minutes. Apparently Plaza Azteca never learned the customer is always right.

We’ve been coming here for years. Service is consistently good, and servers are warm and friendly. The chips are thin and fresh. My favorite entrees are: Pato Sevillana(a very generous serving of duck), Pollo Saltado, Chicken Fajitas. If we want to start with soup, we get Sopa de Pollo which is always satisfying.

Not bad not great… good. Chips were ok. Had chili con quest. not a lot of taste. Had beef enchiladas which were good. Hubby had beef fajitas which tasted nice. Beans and rice appeared homemade. Tortillas appeared to be store bought. Has dulce tres leches cakes… good but had an odd aftertaste. Had some margaritas — and I think it caused me to break out in hives. Was yummy though. So something I ate gave me bad hives. Not sure — frequented Mexican places before and drink tequila. Not sure what it was.
