The food was good enough, but the service was slow and rude, and I was disgusted by lipstick on the glass of wine I was brought. There was no acknowledgment or apology for that dirty glass. We had to wait so long for every step of our dinner, including having to beg for a menu and ask three times for the non-alcoholic drinks. It was my mother’s 85th birthday dinner, and I was sad that the service had the negative effect that it did on her celebration. Never going back, ever. But I love, love, love the restaurant next door — Lilit Café.

The revamped Le Vieux Logis is night and day better than the previous rendition and a proper resurrection for this Bethesda icon. Exceptionally warm and attentive service from the moment you walk in and throughout the meal. The new menu is extensive and includes an array of classical French dishes but with nice twists of originality and nods to more modern cuisine. We ordered an asparagus appetizer to share, the duck and tenderloin medallions as entrees, and the baked alaska for dessert. All dishes were cooked perfectly with just the right seasoning, and the portion sizes were generous. The vegetables that accompanied our entrees in particular merit mention for their freshness and correct temperature. Two recommendations for the ownership: 1) remove the line of can lights down the middle of the dining room, which give off a harsh brightness that’s counter to the otherwise cozy atmosphere of the place. 2) Change out the upholstery of the banquettes, which look very dated and a bit drab. However, these are two minor areas for improvement in what is otherwise a superb restaurant. It’s a shame that its current Unilocal rating(3 stars) is saddled by the older reviews from before the new ownership took over, as this restaurant appears underappreciated for the high quality it is delivering now.

This place is the BOMB! Super authentic french food le Vieux Logie ranks right up there with one of the best restaurants in this area .I’m pretty glad I discovered this little gem of Bethesda. Every single thing on the menu are made from the chef bread to pastry . They have 35 $ menu on week days it’s good deal considering the high quality food . Chris,

This restaurant provides a charming, wonderful, delightful and delicious with homey experience tended to by an attentive, caring, and skilled waitstaff. It’s a special romantic gateway that feels like going to your own«old lodge» private club. We keep going back and getting more impressed.

A new chef and a new flavor. The meal started out with a delicious sample of the gazpacho, as the chef gives every patron a little taste of what’s to come for the rest of the meal. The menu has been updated, The classics are still there but there are also modern choices. I loved that there were summer-fresh options. I had an incredible heirloom tomato, feta, watermelon salad. The flavors were beautiful. The beet salad was also fantastic. The softshell crab appetizer and entrée were enjoyed and had fresh, light, and delicious flavor. The seven people in my party all were part of the«clean plate club» and were very pleased with their choices. I was thrilled with the selection of this restaurant. I would most certainly return.

The new chef-owner has settled in and the verdict is that the room is brighter, the menu is fresher, but the food is uneven. Radishes and sliced anchovies in the Caesar salad? New but not a Caesar. Coq au Vin in brown gravy with just a faint memory of vin rouge? A charcuterie plate too big for one with enough salami to feed four. But excellent dover sole and steak frites. Chef is talented and clearly is trying hard to bring new style to Bethesda; he might be well advised to limit his offerings while making sure the front of the house measures up to his kitchen.

Nice menu but a little overpriced. Charcuterie was excellent. Enough for 2⁄3. Dover Sole was great and beautifully presented

Came here for Valentine’s Day 2015 with my girlfriend. Wasn’t a bad experience. Chose from the 3 course prix fixe menu for $ 80. Seating is cramped. Food was good but nothing amazing. Service was okay. 3 stars for a mediocre experience. If you’re looking for a place for a dinner date then you could give this place a try.

My little family and I took my mother to dinner there last night, and therein lies the rub. There were six of us… You may already know where I’m heading. The restaurant WROTEIN the tip amount on our credit card slip. A full 20% based on the after-tax amount. I really resent it when restaurants do this and neglect to inform you of this practice until it’s too late. Food was fair(steak frite tasted like reheated roast beef) to great(duo of beef, wild mushroom soup) and I would otherwise make this a four star review — but the tip action definitely costs two stars.

The entrance to this restaurant seemed hidden. Very cozy looking scene but felt cramped to me. If your someone who enjoys haute French cuisine, this is the place for you! Personally I don’t think this the food is worth the buck being charged.

Dined here tonight, the food was very good and while the service was a little slow, it seemed deliberately so for a leisurely meal, and not inattentive. I had the scallops which were good but not the best I’ve had(the risotto was very nice and seasonal though). Really the one thing I want to emphasize is that the charcuterie plate is fantastic. It’s huge, with a foie gras mousse, a big jar of homemade pâté(very well seasoned), another more rustic pâté, 2 different types of sausage, prosciutto, and a small frisee salad in the middle. All of the dishes were well-cooked(one of my companions ordered steak frites and we were both skeptical at the temperature based on how dark it was and how thin the medallions were but it was surprisingly the medium rare he ordered). Oh, also, the bread was very good and a nice accompaniment to the meal. It was warm when it came out though I think that was through toasting rather than it being fresh out of the oven, but that seems like a nitpicky thing to dock them points on. I don’t know if I’d generally dine here over some of the other options in Bethesda in this price range, but I’d say that if I were in the mood for that charcuterie plate, there’s no other place I’d go.

We were a table of 5 squished at a table of 4, with the 5th chair added directly in the line of the door which gave a draft. Only 2 out of our 5 main dishes were good: the Mussels at a French place were not good, Shrimp was over cooked, so was the salmon, Duck and Squab were very good. The worst was the service. Our appetizers came out when we still had menus on the table because the server had not yet taken our order. THEN we had to ask for plates! THEN the server did not even apologize for the delay. Ordering dessert had about a 20 minute delay, so we decided to not order it and cut our losses there. Also my husband never got his tea. With this review, please keep in mind that the restaurant was not under staffed; there were plenty of servers and a manager and people taking plates.

Came here on Saturday night with wifey. Service was slow but friendly and the food was mediocre at best. The steak I ordered medium rare came out medium well. The escargot was really bitter I believe due to too much garlic. The soufflé for dessert was really good.

Christmas Eve dinner here was marvelous. Onion soup, Coquille Saint Jacques, Mussels, Branzino(fish). Very well prepared and presented. We didn’t try any of the desserts. Restaurant busy but not over-crowded. Lots of families. The restaurant has a small lot behind but there is a large public parking lot also as well as street parking. This was my first visit in years but i heard good things about the chef and now it has become our favorite Bethesda restaurant. Highly recommended.

It was Crappy down pouring rain & cold here in the Bethesda area & as I am not from here I just stopped at the first place I could find. I understand it was late but I was quite pleased with this small mom & pop restaurant. I know many of you on here go on and on about customer service but I thought they were attentive enough. I don’t like people bothering me every 5 seconds. I ordered the Steak Frites at the recommendation of the server and he was absolutely correct. Spot on the service was prompt, food hot and tasty. They brought bread to the table with fresh butter. I had to ask for balsamic but they were quick to accommodate me. I ordered a glass of the Cabernet called«mine» and was quite pleased. I am probably more of a wine snob then a food snob but I hope this helps you all. One additional thing I strongly recommend that has worked amazingly well for me over the last few years is ask your server what’s popular and what they like. I think most of you will be surprised.

This place is just awesomeness. I have driven by this corner with the mural of people eating in what seems to be France and finally my wife and I decided to drop by and the only regret we had is that we always over looked it. The décor is a bit outdated(very 90’s ish) but I was able to overlook that with the food… OMG…the food. So great. We had a mushrooms base chicken for our appetizer and I could of just ordered three of those and called it a night but our entrees the Sole was even better. I knocked back a ton of French Wine and WALA… I am going back on Friday the food and service just take it to another level. I saw the reviews about the old folks and I was a bit weary about that but we saw a pretty mixed crowd… no worries there.

Went there to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Food and presentation were excellent. Loved the atmosphere and fun décor. The hostess and owner was extremely knowledgeable about menu, specials and what to recommend. I had the crab martini and my husband the baked oysters. Both delicious. I had the Dover sole with white wine butter sauce. What a treat! I highly recommend this restaurant. The food, as well as the cosy atmosphere make it a delightful outing.

This was a very bad experience. We waited 15 minutes, with our reservation for a gas station view seat. We made reservations and they said seating was only available at the time we wanted outside. It was nice and warm and so we went for it. We called back and asked about the outside accommodations, THEYLIED. We where seated on the corner of Old Georgetown Rd and a brightly lit gas station. Sirens buses and gas, it sucked. They would not seat us inside. OK The service was terrible the food was average and WAYOVERPRICED. This is a French restaurant and they had no French red wine by the galss on the menu. Shame on them. We ordered soups and a salad. The french Onion Soup was good. The salad was OK but double the price it should have been. No bread shows up, We get apologies and still no bread. It finally shows. I ordered their 15.95 Oyster appetizer and got six very mediocre oysters. I asked the waiter what kind of Oysters they where. He said he did not know but would find out and be right back. He never returned! Our server recommended their crab cake special, she said it was a large serving and very good. — $ 38.00SHELIED. We waited 45 minutes and no entrée, finally I grabbed a waiter and said bring us the check or our food, Two minutes later we had our food. What there was of it. The portions where tiny and the crab cake was dry. This is the first time In about 20 years that I did not leave a tip. Dinner was $ 141.00 and we would have had a better time at Chipoltes. Never again!!!

between a 2.5 and 3 stars The ambiance is fun albeit a bit quirky. Not your typical french bistro feel but it is comfortable for small groups or a romantic dinner for 2. The food was definitely good(I had a pepper steak and my boyfriend had the veal). The side vegetables could have been better(sort of looked like they came out of a frozen bag). The appetizer caprese salad was had was also delicious. The bread was downright awful /stale. When we pointed that out, the waitress just took it away and didn’t bring us a new basket which I assume meant all their bread was stale. Kind of unexpected for a french restaurant. If there prices weren’t so high(about $ 30 a dish), the restaurant would be more a 3.5−4 star but as it is, it’s just way overpriced for the food and service you get.
