Bold Bite

Quick grab here all day long. Lunch can be crazy, especially being such a small place. Sandwiches are nice and small. They seemed to be slapped together quick but flavors are good. Clubber had juicy chicken and tasty bacon. Donuts here are 5 stars, so definitely give them a try! Interested to see how their coffee is and rest of menu.

Food was good, service was the worst I’ve ever experienced. Slowest lines ever and understaffed. Tables and chairs were sticky and dirty. All the staff were overwhelmed and didn’t know how to run the restaurant. I’d choose Burger Joint around the corner over this place!

A nice small establishment that sits on the corner of Fairmont Ave. It was very clean and had 2 long tables for sitting/​eating. I tried the naked dog which comes with mustard, onions, sauerkraut, relish and I added cheese & chili. The bun was toasted & buttery and the hot dog was very flavorful. I will definitely be returning to try some of the other items on the menu.

I was in the mood for a chicken sandwich, so decided to take Bold Bite for a spin. I opted for the Argentino, which featured a nice chimichurri sauce. The chicken breast itself was somewhat overcooked on the grill, making it a bit dry, but the potato bun was nice and fresh. I can’t say as much for the fries, which were on the cold side — surprising given the pace of the restaurant during the lunch rush. I normally would have just asked for a new order of hot ones, but I could already tell that these were the kind of fries I could easily pass on (a bit limp, a bit greasy) — and that’s saying something when I pass on fries. They looked like a version of the classic beachside Thrasher’s fries but didn’t come close in the flavor department.
If you decide to go, time your visit appropriately, since the space is small and seating is limited, especially when the B-​CC kids are on their lunch break.

Bold Bite is a delicious new hot dog establishment in Bethesda, around the corner from my old internship. I liked when I could run up the street and grab fancy hot dogs and eat in or out. I’ve been a few times with coworkers, and their ingredients are fresh, and they grill their hot dogs before they go in toasted brioche buns. Breaking the crisp skin on these sausages is a hot treat that will burn your tongue if you’re not careful. I would stay away from the fries, which are greasy and reminded me of the bags of shoveled salt I sometimes get from Five Guys. Some come with many accessories, dressed up to the nine. Don’t be fooled, crispy potato sticks are just shards of ruffle potato chips. I usually like mayo on my bun, a smear of mustard and a fair amount of ketchup, onions, and relish on my hot dogs. But here, my two favorites, and the only items I’ve ordered on the menu include the Spicy Chicken and the Spicy Chorizo. These show dogs cost $ 5.99 and $ 6.49 respectively. The first includes spicy chicken sausage, Asian slaw, Hot and Bold sauce, toasted sesame seeds on a toasted brioche bun. The second includes spicy chorizo (pork), pico de Gallo, guacamole, Monterey Jack cheese, shredded crispy tortilla strips and cilantro lime sauce on a toasted bun. The interior is rustic and the free refills are self-​serve. Their bathrooms are great, chalkboard painted walls crying for a wash and decoration. They have great specials, salads, and burgers now too. I can still get an Asian Show dog and a naked dog with online, relish, ketchup, mustard, and mayo. I picked up from here earlier in February, so be mindful of the lunch rush. I spent $ 9.06 for a filling lunch. They’ve got a thorough website here at
There is also an outpost in Union Station with an abridged menu. They grill their burgers and dogs to order and I am glad I can still get the Spicy Chicken with a quick kimchee and a regular dog. The burgers are on point as well.

These are hands down the best hot dogs in the moco are and definitely one of the best I’ve ever had in me life. Between my brother and I, we ordered one of each of the half smokes on the menu (there were only 4).
Each had a unique flavor that perfectly complemented one another. These dogs will definitely meet and far exceed your expectations!
We also had amazing chili cheese fries and donuts to complement the meal. These were also equally high quality and absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to go back.

They forgot my chili cheeses fries and the phone lady is annoying, (Maria) offered to bring me my chili cheese free of charge … That was nice

Oh my goodness. Burgers so good, we had them for dinner on Friday night and lunch on Saturday. And don’t get me started on those crispy, perfectly salted fries. These were perhaps the most incredible burgers my husband and I have ever had.

Amazing. fresh made donuts. delightful breakfast sandwich… empowering espresso… and friendly staff a win win all around… and a must stop when in Bethesda Will definitely return. and recommend

The menu and interior design has changed up some, but what hasn’t changed is the amazing food and outstanding customer service!!! Me and my brother ordered one of each of the four half smokes on the menu and an order of chili cheese fries. There’s no need for me to describe how delicious these dogs are! You just have to go try them!!! Also, don’t forget to have a donut or two after your meal! They are rich and delicious and fresh!
Don’t sleep on this place! It’s a great place to go for a high quality, reasonably priced comfort meal!

The best, man. Really good stuff. Super nice employees, very good food and tasty donuts. The Batista was headed out the door, but stopped to make my drink with no attitude and made a killer latte. Avoid Pete’s and the buck, just go to Bold Bites for coffee and espresso if you’re in the area. Travel for the dogs and burgers. Thank you

I like this place, have been going here since it opened several years ago. They’ve expanded their menu over time to now include hamburgers, lattes, and doughnuts — all upscale which explain the above the norm pricing. I go here almost all the time whenever I visit Bethesda. I usually get the spicy chicken dog, chicago dog, and fries. The dogs are kind of small which is why I always order two, but I can tell it is great quality. They give a lot of fries which can fill you up in case two dogs don’t. Be careful with the street parking, I always see parking cops roaming around, and actually spotted a couple cars getting tagged by the parking patrols. I would rather park in the nearby lots since it’s not worth messing with these parking patrols.

Got a salad to go for lunch and as far as to-​go salads go, it was pretty decent! I ordered their Latin Salad. Not sure if they had a deal, but I think that it was cheaper than the price listed on the menu board??? The dressing was tasty, but still seemed light and somewhat healthy. I would have liked to have more than just romaine for the greens — maybe mix it up with some other greens, but I liked the combination of the tortilla chips to provide some crunch, the pungency from the red onions, and the avocado! I’m a sucker for avocado. My order also included a piece of focasia, which was decent.

Hm. I love giving out ⁴⁄₅ stars but found this place just to be A-​OK. I liked how the burgers were made to order (always a good sign when they ask you how you like it done) and they tasted pretty fresh. They are pricey and I’ve probably just become a fatass that loves big, juicy burgers. I just don’t think it’s anything super special however. The spicy burger was not spicy. What makes it spicy? I added tabasco to my burger to add in my own.
Orders came out quick the place pretty clean. It’s the kind of place I wouldn’t argue against it if someone suggested coming here but I wouldn’t be particularly excited.
Looking at the other reviews, it seems as though they shine w/​their half smokes or coffee/​breakfast items. That’s exactly what I’ll go for if I find myself here again.

I loved my hot dog! The bread was everything I could have asked for. The DC Naked was amazing. I loved the relish especially. Fries portion was rather small though.
My boyfriend had one of the peanut buttery donuts and it looked amazing.
Looking forward to coming back! We ordered to-​go and ate on the patio area next to Woodmont! Perfect lunch spot.

It’s a burger joint! It used to look and feel like a burger joint… a little rough and rugged; thick wood plank tables, chalk board on the wall, wood stools, etc. …but now under some form of new/​joint leadership the place is starting to look like Sweetgreen or that it’s been decorated by a yoga instructor. There’s probably flowers in the restrooms now too.
I just don’t know where they’re going with it. What’s the deal with the espresso machine? Again…“it’s a burger joint.” Who drinks espresso with a half-​smoke and chili-​cheese fries? I gave them a pass on the donuts… mainly because you used to be able to get them in place of the buns on a sandwich (never tried it… but it just sounds like something so amazing you really shouldn’t do it… unless you’re Paula Dean); but I just can’t give them a pass on what this new guy’s doing (HINT: he’s screwing it up.)
It’s a good thing that BGR is just across the street. At least I’ll still have a spot for my burger-​fix on this side of Bethesda when he finally drives Bold Bite into the ground.

Build bite burgers are awesome! The donuts are also great considering they are homemade and they always go good with a meal. The workers were all very fast and enthusiastic and I would without a doubt go back.

Love their burgers and fries. Reasonably priced compared to some of the other burger joints around. When you order the fresh cut fries you have the option of ordering the house aioli which is my favorite. I need to try the donuts. They also serve breakfast. My coworker is a big fan of the WinDCity and I’m a fan of BLT burger.

I asked for a Spicy Burger and my girl for a Mediterranean Salad and both delight us. Also the Italian coffee surprise me

Aunque no soy una fan de las donuts tengo que admitir que me he convertido en una con las donuts de este lugar!!! Me encanta que no son grandes, es el tamaño justo para no sentirte super lleno.
La ultima edicion que tienen es el café. La marca del café es Vigilante. Es un negocio local por lo cual ofrece un café fresco y de un sabor inigualable que te hara no pisar Starbucks nunca mas.
Totalmente reconmendable!

OMG, why i havent been told about this place.
I will try too explain, stopped here after driving by it 12÷2÷15, walkied in Kia was so pleaseant and cool ordered large fries wirh chili cause thats weakness, Kia was laidback cool inetracting and answering the phone at the same time while communicating with someone real smoothly. As i wait I look at the wall not only do i see awards but didnt realize the owner and chef was just chilling talking to someone, how cool chili and cheese offffff the rocker.
If your riding down 355 at 7am their open serving up big boy food and breakfast! This will be my Wednesday moring spot from here out.

I love this place! To be fair I’ve only ordered one thing here but have loved it so much that I get it every time. The veggie dog Chicago style! I love that they use quality field roast veggie dogs… you can’t find too many places in this area that do quality veggie dogs… and with all the options you can go wrong! I have never had a donut but hear they are amazing. The staff has always been super friendly and helpful as well which helps.

The cappuccino (ceramic) is traditional with the proper ratio of espresso, milk and foam with a delicious coffee bean — Perfect!
Also had a breakfast sandwich that blew my mind. I had mine on an Arepa (cornbread) which I never had before. Can’t wait to have another!
Also tried the homemade donuts (different day) and they were unique and also very good.

SO GOOOOOD!!! Not only is their food amazing, the owner sat and talked to us for ten minutes. What a great local place with local food. Seriously better than the infamous bens chili bowl.
I got the half smoke chili dog and it had such great flavor. I also really liked the bread they use.

Went to this place during lunch time. Staff is friendly and seems passionate about the food their making. Had their sandwich of the day and it was good. For desert had a plain glazed doughnut and was really impressed. Overall I highly recommend it.

Food is always amazing and the employees are even more amazing! My favorite is the glazed donuts, so freshly baked and delicious.

Stopped here this past weekend by chance. It was breakfast time and I have a few donuts. They were unbelievably delicious! OMG, I will be back and can’t stress about how delicious the donuts are here. They melt in your mouth and are absolutely worth it!
The staff was also really nice and welcoming. I haven’t tried the lunch menu yet but it seems really good and very family friendly. I have a 3 yo and a 5yo and I will be back with them.

What a great surprise! Went here per the recommendation of a friend, and I was quite delighted that I did. Their array of comfort food is quite impressive, but what’s even more impressive is how upfront they are about the ingredients they use in their food. It’s rare to find a place that you can actually pronounce all the ingredients used, as well as not get exhausted by the time you’re are done reading them.
Their portions and prices are just right (only tried a mini doughnut), and their doughnuts taste especially fresh. I must say, I was actually surprised how «light» they tasted. Usually I want to put on a pair of stretchy pants after eating doughnuts, but these made me feel ready to go for a jog… ok maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration.
I also appreciated the fact that one of the owners (the smiley, female one) was there in the midst of the nitty-​gritty, greeting and helping customers. All-​in-​all I had a great experience and hope to go back to try some new deliciousness.

The hot dogs here look tasty, although I haven’t had them. This review is for the delicious doughnuts, which are decadently great, the polar opposite of anything with artificial preservatives.
I love to bake, which means there are few baked goods that I’ll buy — my homemade version always tastes better. Not so with these doughnuts.

This place is a lunch regular for me. Everything is fantastic. Their hot dogs great, their French fries delicious and crunchy… And for my favorite… Their salads, stellar! My favorite is the Mediterranean salad which is out of this world. And a new favorite of mine is the crispy steak salad.
For a burger and dog place I definitely say check the salads out too!

This is hands down the best hot dog I’ve had in my life!
Between me and my brother, we ordered the house dog, Chicago dog, DC guac, DC Asian, and the DC classic. They were all amazing, fresh, and outrageously flavorful! Like I said, the hot dogs were the best I’ve ever had, but the half-​smokes were out of this world!
Also, the French fries were delicious. Crispy and light! Not soaked in grease.
Finished off with a donut. Let me say this, I’ve never been a huge fan of donuts (just not my thing) but these donuts were the best I’ve had in my 30 years of existence (notice a recurring theme with this place?).
Overall, this is a hidden gem in the area. Great place for a casual lunch with delicious food.

Do NOT sleep on their salads. I know they are Bold Bite, burgers and half smokes but their salads are amazing. I tried the new crispy steak salad which better be around to stay. The steak was seasoned perfectly and just the right amount of crispiness. Slightly heavy handed on dressings but honestly I just am not a dressing fan so that might just be my perspective. My coworker tried the Kale ceaser and was just as impressed.
They are alittle hidden now because of all the construction in the area but really one of the top places on this side of downtown Bethesda to grab lunch.

Okay I’ve worked in the area long enough that I’ve given Bold Bite a few more chances and have been pleasantly surprised each time. I’m still not a fan of the salads, but I love the hot dogs! The Chicago dog has been a steady favorite with a soft poppy seed bun and tons of that neon green relish. Fries can be hit or miss, but are generally good. I’m glad this location still has the truffle whip option. My boyfriend claims the Union Station location no longer offers it.
I still need to try the burgers and donuts, but since I found out I like the hot dogs so much it’s hard for me to venture from that!

I found this listing on Grub-​hub and read some of the reviews and figure I would give it a try since its so close to my job.
So the online ordering is super easy, the parking is great (street, metered parking but there are a lot of parking spaces)
The staff was very friendly and the food was great. I have the Half-​smoke combo and it was amazing! The fries were so good that i didnt need any seasonings at all, the half-​smoke was cooked perfectly and the bun was toasted! You should try it for yourself!

This place is located almost next to where BlackFinn Restaurant used to be, around the corner from Starbucks. There is street parking (2 hours at time — quarters or pay by cell) and 2 parking garages within the vicinity (one is on St Elmo Ave and the other is Woodmont Ave/​Old Georgetown Road).
The most I knew about this place before going there is that they serve hot dogs, burgers, fries and donuts. I went there for the first time as they were doing some charity — contributing 30% of their sales towards the charity Bethesda Cares, so I felt that it would be a perfect time to visit (thanks Unilocaler Mike B.) There are long wooden benches and wooden stools to sit on (you cannot move either) — more like communal.
I was not ready to try different things just yet, so I opted to get the Dog Combo (hot dog, drink & fries). I got the Naked Dog with relish, ketchup and mayo (you can also get it with onion, sauerkraut and mustard as well). The relish does not look like what you get in the store, but it was delicious anyways. I got just regular fries and they tasted good. My friends that I was with got other stuff including something called Truffle Whipped Cream. They explained to me what it was and when I first heard the word «mushroom» I wanted no part of it since I don’t like mushroom. However, after some convincing, I took one of my fries and proceeded to dip it into this Truffle Whipped Cream and can I say… Yummy (wow, that was really good) — something that I will certainly get next time when I get my fries.
I also tried one of their donuts (chocolate covered donut with white chocolate shavings and caramel drizzle). When I ordered it, I said to the cashier «I know this is bad for me», but I purchased it anyway. Luckily I had friends with me to share, so it got cut 4 ways (friends to the rescue) and it surely tasted great and very fresh (like they had made it that day). I will go back for the donuts too.
It was not crowded when I was there, but folks still came through and ate there. Overall, it is a nice way to just relax and eat some great food.

The staff is friendly fast and the food is sooo good. Get the half smokes, the fries are soooo good and the dipping sauces are tasty and bold. I wouldve given all 5 stars but every single time – and I do mean every single time I went in (3 times) they ran out of truffle whip.
Some excuse about the CO2 cartridge not being available. Umm hello thats what Amazon is for! Its just really sad cause thats the main reason i go for the truffle whip

This place has excellent customer service because they are constantly working to improve their business and offer new items. They didn’t used to offer burgers, but it seemed as if after I suggested it, they did like a week later. I know other people suggested them, but I think they have the best burger in Bethesda (the Bold Burger). They even have one for under $ 6, which is about the only one in the area. The workers that have been there for the past year or so even arrange the ingredients on their hot dogs/​burgers meticulously. I appreciate that kind of attention to detail.
The owner works really hard at making really tasty new items, so anything new is worth trying as well. They have seating at tables, on stools at the window and outside, which is great because it’s diverse. They even have a huge TV you can watch too. The dining areas and restrooms are always really clean as well. There is a lot of construction going on outside right now, which I’m sure is annoying to them, but they’re still open.

The menu has become more diversified. They now offer soup, salad and burgers. We have yet to venture into their new offerings so I can’t pass judgement on the soup, salads or burgers. I can understand the motive behind it to bring in more business other than wiener lovers.
Sadly for the wiener lovers, the show dogs have been removed from the menu. This is heartbreaking as their show dogs is what made this place stand out from very other hot dog joint! The unique sausages, gourmet toppings and baguette rolls were the trinity of all that is good in hot god heaven! Heartbreaking!
On a bright note, the manager mentioned that they do bring some of them back as «specials» every so often.
Preparation
Gone are the variations of buns (I miss the baguettes!). Once upon a time the bun was paired with a specific dog. Now all dogs (at least the 4 we ordered; less the Chicago dog) are wrapped in a New England style roll.
The sausage prep on this trip seemed a bit odd as the cook split the half smokes on the grill vs leaving them whole. When cooked this way you lose that nice snap that you get when you first bite into the dog.
The half smoke used on our dogs did not have the spicy bite to it that we have been accustomed to in past visits. I don’t know if it was a change in product or the way it was prepared; either way it was a downgrade from the last one we ate here.

Sadly I have to drop a star on this update. I still got love for you; just at a 3* level. The show dogs were the claim to fame for this place and now they are nowhere on the menu. The items that we ordered were decent however a far cry from being called «bold». The half smokes lacked any spice or bite to them like the ones we have had in the past. So now the best part of eating here is the fries and all of the crack sauce accouterments that go along with it
I implore you to bring back the bold!
