Ocean Cycles

Chose Ocean Cycles in Bethany Beach after consultation with the owner of Fenwick Islander Bike Shop.
I needed a very minor adjustment to my front dérailleur was told could not give an estimate until looking at the bike but probably $ 20 – 30 and that the work could not be done until afternoon or next morning. Probably a 20 minute adjustment by a certified mechanic.
Called at 3PM to check on status and spoke to Garrett. I was told that he had a 2 day back log with a tone that led me to believe that my call was intrusive and my expectation was unreasonable at best. They could have told me of the 2 day back log at the time.
I chose to pick the bike up around 4PM. I was greeted by Garrett at which time I told him I would take the bike off his hands without repair.
His comment to me … «Really sorry your bike was next, I busted my ass to get this thing done after all the complaining you did.» I asked him if he would complete the work to which he replied, «I ain’t working on this bike» and I left the store.
I suspect that with customer service such as theirs they are not worried about this review and have all the work they can handle.
A beach cruiser rental might be the tops of what they can handle… never again.

Bought my Felt road bike at FIBS over a year ago and got in a bit of a wreck with it this week. Took it to the head mechanic Sean yesterday and told him I hoped to have it back ASAP and he had it looking good as new in a mere couple of hours. Guess that’s one of the many benefits of sticking to small town business. Thanks so much guys; you’ve got my business indefinitely!

I have used fenwick islander cycles for the past few years and tried their other shop, Ocean Cycles recently since we were staying in Bethany for a change. Both shops are great and extremely accommodating.
We were in Fenwick in July with our daughters and their friends. We rented 6 bikes. We arrived the Sunday before July 4 and had all the bikes we needed by Monday noon. They buy brand new coaster bikes every year so the girls enjoyed the shiny new bikes in an array of pastel colors. For a nominal fee, they deliver and then pick up again. We were really impressed with the service and quick availability on what must be the busiest week of the year.
We went to Bethany this past week and rented 3 bikes for the girls on Saturday. I called Saturday morning before we started driving down and they were delivered Saturday evening. The girls all requested pink and that’s what they all got. Garrett also offered baskets, which we hadn’t seen before and the girls were thrilled with to carry their cell phones and purchases. The bikes were picked up as we requested Friday evening. No muss no fuss.
The bikes have been in tip top shape every time we have rented and we are delighted to continue to be repeat customers.

Had to write a review after a great experience here on the weekend of July 26^th, — had a completely different experience than these other reviews. The staff got me sorted quickly, got me on a great bike (which I liked so much, I’m considering getting one for my mom) and out of the shop in 13 minutes.
The guy in the store was exremely knowledgeable– I was hoping for a road bike since I was in training for the Pan Mass Challenge the following weekend. He got me on the closest thing you could find near the beach (without bringing your own) and directed me to some good rides, since I needed to get in some miles.
I appreciate that this shop opens an hour early than others nearby– very key on hot summer mornings when you want to get a ride in as early as possible before it gets hot! The gentleman behind the counter could not have been more helpful– while juggling other clients and training a new, very polite and helpful staffer. I found them extremely family friendly, the bikes were in great shape, and before I headed out, they gave the bike a quick once-​over tune up just to be sure. If I’m in Bethany again, this is where I’ll get my bike!

These guys are the best– The bikes are in great shape, the people are nice, and I“ve rented from them for 2 years now. They’re so much better than the gross people a block south of them near Armands!

I visited this bike shop for the first time today after calling to see if they had what I needed. I arrived with my wife and two kids and it was about 5 minutes until the person in the store finally got off the phone to offer assistance. It sounded like he was talking to his buddy. The ironic part was that he was commenting on the phone «that’s not how a business should be run».
So he finally asks if he can assist us. I ask him for the tube I inquired about. I needed a lightweight, 700×18−23c preta tube with a 60 mm stem. He had one, but it was not lightweight, far from it. He said he orders them for himself and his buddies, but doesn’t stock them and is out for the year. Then he tells me it’s not that important (yeah, like rotational mass is not the most important thing when considering weight when racing). If it’s not that important, then why does he use them? I smell something…
This shop does not understand customer service and by the way, all they have are beach cruisers and everything seems overpriced.
