Los Sombreros

Our family had dinner here tonight and enjoyed it immensely. All our dishes tasted so fresh. The salsa is amazing — it is smooth, not chunky, and tastes wonderful. Service was attentive. Strongly recommended.

Normally I will tell you all Mexican food in B’ham is the same. Same taste, same menu, same, same, same. This place is a bit different. You just seem to get more. Example is the Steak Fajita Nachos. I leave most places a bit disappointed, but here I seem to get more steak, more cheese, more Sour cream. In fact I always seem to get enough more that I end up grabbing extra chips out of the free ones they put on the table. It is a bit far from my house but it has become a 1^st choice for when I am at work.

Best Mexican food on the west side of town. Raul and all of the staff are very friendly. We eat here about once a week and the food is always great.

Great service, great tasting food and LOTS of it. Outstanding house made salsa. Cheap, cold beer. What more do you need to know?
Only drawback is the extensive menu… too many choices!

Came here for lunch impromptu on our way out of Birmingham for the day. celebrating my fiances birthday. The service/​waiters were immense. they came out and sang happy birthday and left her with a shot of tequila!
The food was just as immense. We have eaten mexican food all over the world (Honduras, Florida, California, Australia, DC etc), except we have never eaten Mexican food in Mexico. I felt this place would have been quite similar
The table salsa and chips are as good as it gets. they make the salsa in-​house, it just bleeds quality, depth and with a great hint of spice. hard to go to a mexican restaurant and before you’ve ordered a thing be treated to free salsa and chips like this. we couldn’t stop munching on it
The entrees came out quick (not too quick) and hot. I had the chicken fajita plate — with beans and rice. Flavour and taste was great and went well with the frozen margaritas

They have definitely updated their menu in the past 4+ years since I’ve been here. They now have more variety than your typical quesadillas, burritos, and tacos. Glad to see many Mexican restaurants following this trend.
I was impressed with the updated menu but the main thing we were after is chili rellenos with chicken. Do you know how rare it is to find a restaurant that will make it with chicken instead of beef or shrimp? Chicken chili rellenos are his favorite Mexican dish and they’re very time consuming to make at home. So glad we can find them here.
I can’t attest to how the new menu items taste but I’m super curious, so if you try it be sure to review!

Update: came back just a few weeks later. I got the Burrito Maravilla (can’t remember how to spell). It’s stuffed with chicken strips and refried beans then topped with verde and cheese sauce. Not a huge burst of flavor but still very good especially served with guac, pico, and sour cream.
Also when I asked if they still had the spicy green salsa he said they had something different with the new ownership. He brought me 3 different sauces a milder red sauce-​sort of like a chili sauce, a jalapeño salsa-​very good briny flavor, and a spicy guacamole-​OMG this one’s got a kick, less like guacamole and more like a fire filled avocado. Do try if you like heat!

Wow… this is a great place to come and relax with friends. I highly recommened the green hot dip. No its not verde. Great food and very attentive wait staff

Great service, good food. Under new ownership, so I think problems in previous reviews are fixed. The owner is very nice, and so was our waitress.

This use to be a good restaurant. We’ve eaten here many times over the past 5 years.
We went there this week, and found hair and what looked to be wax paper in one of our meals. Gross.
To top it off as we were leaving, a cockroach scampered across the dining room floor.
Will never ever go back.

HUGE menu. I try something new every time and never have been disappointed. Descent margaritas and great salsa. Tricky getting out of parking due to high traffic on Hwy 78.
