Quality, hygiene, professional. This is where you go for a piercing.
When I decided to get a belly-​button ring several years ago, I went to a random place in Virginia Beach (it was my 40^th birthday and I thought I should do something to mark the day — something a little fun/​cute). I had nothing to compare the experience with (other than ear piercings). So, while the place seemed a little cheap, and aesthetically unappealing, I «assumed» that since it was on the Virginia Beach strip, they likely had tons of experience. So boom… mission accomplished.
I later went to another random place in Michigan to have it adjusted since the ring was always sitting a little crooked. It was pointed out to me that the piercing was incorrectly placed and, therefore, it would always be offset. They suggested I re-​pierce it. I was bummed about the misplacement but, there was no way I was going to do it again. That piercing establishment seemed «fine» — but nothing that stood out as impressive. Maybe a little scary though.
After the healing period had passed, and I wanted to switch out the starter ring for a cute ring, I went to Adornment Deluxe in Berkley, Michigan (yes, I was too afraid to do it myself). I immediately learned the difference between «random piercing locations» and a place like Adornment Deluxe. The owner, Rich, is highly qualified, educated, and professional. He is also extremely hygiene-​oriented.
He then explained, in his naturally patient and mild demeanor, why I could not use, nor would he insert, the cute belly-​button ring that I spent endless hours tracking down (even though I begged). Ultimately, what I had brought to him was your typical cheap, belly-​button ring that you can find almost anywhere.
The message of «why» he would not insert the ring really sank in when I realized he did not care «where» I purchased a quality piece (so it was not a self-​serving statement). He simply explained in a detailed manner WHY I have to purchase a quality one. Those low-​quality pieces were dangerous and could cause injury to my piercing (external «exposed» screw parts vs. internal).
The low quality pieces have exposed screw parts that can rip your piercing as it enters and travels inside the «channel». Alternatively, the higher quality pieces have non-​exposed screw parts which are smooth and glide through without injury.
He further explained human-​grade surgical quality metals vs non-​surgical grade. All things that are important to understand.
I continue to go to Rich for adjustments and replacements (as I continue to be squeamish about the belly piercing…7 years later!) Don’t know why since I have pierced ears. Just somehow different!
For those looking to get it right, the first time, go to Adornment Deluxe. Be prepared as they are sticklers for rules — and in my opinion, that is a good thing.

Ive had multiple piercings done by multiple piercers in multiple place on my body. Adornment Deluxe was my best experience. The owners are nothing short of helpful and knowledgeable. I’ve gotten on piercing here, and have bought titanium jewelry here as well. Adornment deluxe is great for follow up phone calls and questions as well. They want your piercings to be beautiful and healthy, so if you ve ever got an issue, they are there to help you.

Banish the notion of a grimy tattoo parlour populated by grungy vampires who work by red neon lights. Adornment Deluxe, part of the developing neighbourhood of funky shops along Twelve Mile, shines with cleanliness and an ethnic vibe. The dedicated piercing parlour caters to the simple (ears) to the exotic (unmentionables), and provides considerable literature to inform consumers. Give two thumbs up for that level of concern about informed decisions and healthy aftercare; I wouldn’t dare go anywhere without it.
Adornment Deluxe oozes edgy counterculture with a bit more upscale vibe. A large fish tank anchors one corner, while large glass display cases glitter with more than the stainless steel barbells and coloured cubic zirconias typically found in a piercing studio. Think Peruvian jewelry, handmade wooden plugs and earrings, and rare woods sculpted into body art. You can pay a pretty penny for something your friends definitely won’t have.
I came to get a change of jewelry and insertion, a quick and painless experience. The piercer and his partner were approachable, patient, and talkative — all essential to put a client at ease if they were nervous, and a sign of great customer interactions altogether. I came in as the last client of the day on short notice, and they never made me feel rushed or unwelcome. The change was done quickly and easily, my new purchase much appreciated in the reflection of the mirror.
As I didn’t get pierced here, I can’t speak to that particular service. But I was pleased with the array of jewelry and the replacement. It was, quite literally, an in and out job with no complications.
Plus, there’s plentiful parking in back as well as streetside and it’s a really neat area.

This place is awesome! When I first inquired about their services they were very accommodating and friendly on the phone. I had my PA done there the other day and it was a great experience overall. The place is not intimidating at all. It actually has more of a spa feel to it. The piercer was incredibly friendly, patient and helpful. He told me everything he was doing which was nice and informative. I’m definitely coming back for more.

I was quite nervous about my septum piercing and I was completely put to ease by the piercer. He was extremely informative and was certain to make sure I knew exactly what he was doing at each step and why he was doing what.
By the end of it, I was completely at ease and though the pain was there, it was quick and I hardly noticed.

A friend of mine has wanted a navel piercing and was scared to go alone so I was recruited. Her boyfriend was not free that day so as the saying goes, «a friend in need is a friend indeed.» First thing we started off was calling around to different places and seeing prices and how their customer service was. This is just about the easiest piercing that can be done so you figure that a call for information would be easy… sadly it was not: (I did use some Unilocalers reviews and also reviews from Yahoo. Here is what happened from the calls on that day. (Note: I cut and pasted this story for the establishments because first impressions start with call sometimes.
Started calling about 12:30 pm on a Saturday with the cell speak phone on, here is what happened…
Royal Oak Tattoo… called 3 times over a span of 30 min on a Saturday afternoon and never a live person to talk to, always went to an answering machine.
Wholeshot Tattoo… gave a price of $ 45 and closed at 7pm
Adornment Deluxe… call and started out friendly enough but talked for about 20 min about all their extra services. I don’t like sales people that to not listen to what the customer asks. Simple questions and simple answers, be a sales professional not just go for more sales. Also even though there web site said appointments preferred and they will take walk in if their artists are not busy, he tried numerous times to get us to set an appointment time in an unfriendly way.

Rockstar Tattoo… was friendly on the phone, gave a price of $ 30, closed at 10pm…18 of the 19 reviews on Yahoo had 5 out of 5 stars (sorry for cheating on Unilocal and also looking at Yahoo)…Jack did the piercing… was friendly there and very clean… Thumbs Up !!!

Love love love this place! I’d recommend Adornment Deluxe to anyone, and have several times. I myself have had 3 piercings done here, and have purchased jewelry on many occasions. It is absolutely spotless (a definite must-​have when considering a piercing or tattoo studio), the piercer is extremely professional and helpful. They welcome any phone calls with questions and concerns, and always go over instructions when a customer gets something new. Proper ID is required, and a short medical survey is given before anything is done — it’s amazing how many places don’t do this. They have a very large selection of jewelry and other pieces made by local artists for sale (other jewelry items, bags, pottery, etc), and if they don’t have what you’re looking for, they can usually order it for you. If you need as much as a quick jewelry change that you can’t do yourself, just give them a call and they’ll mark you in for a short appointment.
This place isn’t the cheapest place to get a piercing done, but you get what you pay for. Tools are autoclaved, nothing else is reused, and like I said, the whole place is spotless.
