The Shop

I’ve been coming to Ashlie for almost one year now. I have always walked in shaggy and walked out happy. She got me photo-​ready for all my big events… not to mention my wedding day! She has a great eye for style and detail. She understands what I want and never fails to deliver.
The staff are super friendly and the shop is well kept. They graciously provide water (and the other good stuff) upon request. They also have a great selection of hair product, making it convenient to try the new «goo» for your hair-​do (lol).
If you’re looking for incredibly skilled Stylists, come to The Shop. You’ll feel welcomed and you’ll find the ‘cut you’re looking for.

The staff are all very nice and the place is decked out nice. I’ve been getting a haircut from this place for a little over a year. You can usually get a decent haircut, some staff members are more skilled than others.
The issue is this place is a walk-​in… yet I haven’t been able to get a walk-​in hair cut in over 9 months. They are constantly booked. I try to get a haircut around 6 — 7 after work, yet to do this, you have to time your call right. If you call at 3 P. M which I was recommended to do, it’s not crowded enough for a list. If I wait until 5:30, they are booked until 8 for the rest of the evening.
At this point, I don’t understand why they don’t just start a reservation system like every other Salon. It’s such a pain in the ass to get a haircut at this place now, that I’ve already looked elsewhere.
Now in terms of quality/​price/​friendliness… all great stuff. Fun place to hang out at. Wait times, however are horrendous. A good thing for them, but I think their walk-​in system needs to be overhauled with their growing popularity.

They turned me orange when I asked for lowlights. That’s pretty much it. They. Turned. Me. Orange. I went to Andrea Nervis at Tribez in Danville for the color correction, and she did an incredible job. I highly recommend her, but STRONGLY recommend staying out of The Shop.

This place is great!
I saw Sam and she gave me just about the best haircut I’ve had in years! I’ve gone to the high-​end salons that cost more than double for a cut when compared to the cost at this salon and she did a better job cutting my long, fine hair than the high end places. I was and still am very impressed.
When I first walked by, I was a little intimidated because it looked like maybe a spot better suited for a man’s haircut. But after having a great cut here, I can say that they are definitely set up to do ladies cuts and I found that I actually liked the vibe — it seemed very chill and I enjoyed my conversations with Sam.
I will definitely be coming back. I’ve found a new favorite spot.

Best haircut I’ve ever had? No. But it was good, the stylist (Alex) was nice, and the price ($ 25) was right. Tip: call ahead, they don’t take appointments but if you call in advance they’ll put your name on the list and give you a time estimate (that was pretty close in my experience).

I usually love this place. Is this under new management? Very different experience today.

Used to really like this place… Came in at 5 no appointment.
There were 3 people ahead of me that had called in, then 1 guy came in and said out loud, I forgot to call in but I’m here, they sat him right away.
Then heard a few more people calling in and getting on the list, while I was waiting and somehow they got above me on the list…
NEVER coming back, and I left a 25 $ tip EVERY TIME and was always nice…
Someone was either being retarded or trying to be sneaky…
Soooo pissed off…
I had a drink and some time to cool off, changing from 1 star to 3… It was probably an honest mistake and I didn’t handle myself very well in confronting the error and walked out before the staff had a chance to correct it.
Though they were also out of beer and whiskey, so it does sortof seem like they are slipping on quality at the moment, and their phone in to get on a separate list but not an appointment system seems very bias and unfair and I wish it was a much more transparent list you could clearly see right away…
I would like to be able to walk in and see exactly who is ahead of me and if they are not there when the next stylist is available it should be whomever is next. Period. They were times when the stylist was clearly available but just hid in the back or behind the counter for up to 10 minutes until the person who had phoned in arrived.
It almost ruined my weekend but I decided I am a grown up.
I will skip this spot for my next 2 hair cuts and then try again in 4 months to see if anything has changed.
Mostly the stylists near the front of the shop are really good. There is one stylist near the back that’s not that great but she is nice and trys hard.
Anyways, I guess my advice is call in, make a «not appointment» for a specific time and show up 5 minutes late. You’ll be happy. Ask for beer and whiskey, they may have ;)

Do I love every cut I’ve got here? Yes. The stylists are nice and the price is right. However, I’ve never got my hair cut on time when I have «called ahead.» You can not schedule an appointment here and even calling ahead is narrowed down to appointments only an hour or two in advance. At least the reading material is fun.

Good haircuts at a good price, but that’s about it. The stylist are nice, but the service can be a bit hit or miss. The reservation system is a joke. On multiple occasions I’ve waited more than 30 minutes for my haircut even though I called ahead to reserve. No updates while we’re waiting either — just a person behind the desk playing gameboy. The system needs to be clearer — this time around, we’ve waited for over an hour after the time we were told to show up. It’s been too long to just leave… But I guess us waiting means it’s a good value?

When you first walk in, you honestly can’t stop but notice the beautiful American flag painted on the ceiling. The shop is gorgeous inside and has a cool retro interior design.
This is my second time seeing Samantha and I absolutely can’t get enough of her!
The first time I came in, I showed her a few pictures and she transformed my dream hair cut into exactly what I wanted. An edgy long bob with long layers, but long enough to tie into a ponytail for the gym. She also waxed my eyebrows and oh my gossshh. She’s an eyebrows sculpting master!
Today, I came in for a trim and explained to her I needed a trim but need to be able to put my hair into a ballerina bun. She did just that and styled my hair. Before I left she also waxed my eyebrows and sculpted them to perfection.
When she gave me the mirror she explained exactly her method with my brows that was super helpful!
Overall, The Shop, is amazingly the staff is friendly and warm. It’s affordable and has a wonderful atmosphere.

I came back later in the day and talked to the front desk about how unsatisfied i was with my haircut. they got Isha to fix it for me. Isha managed to fix most of it and gave me a cut that was alot closer to what i had came in for, which was an under cut. Isha really look her time to fix my hair and checked in with me several times to make sure she had addressed everything i was unsatisfied with. To be honest, i will most likely not come back to this shop, but if you are a regular at the shop or want to give it a try, i would suggest trying to get an appointment with Isha.

I highly recommend this place. I showed a picture of what I had idealized and Paul worked his magic to make my hair dreams come true. He did an amazing job with light highlights on my originally dark brown hair. Overall wonderful experience and great value.

I really wanted to like this place. Sadly, I did not.
The staff was not particularly friendly or welcoming. But, worst of all, my stylist (whose name I unfortunately cannot remember) took my haircut far beyond what we had discussed.
I have been growing the top of my hair out for over a year. I said that it had been 6 – 8 weeks since my last haircut, I wanted to keep the length, and we agreed upon ½ inch cut off the top.
My hair is now nearly as short as when I first started to grow it out. There were pieces of hair 3″ + sitting in my lap. When I asked if that was ½ inch, she said yes. I would disagree.
Goodbye to one year of hair growth. See you in a year.

My first time to this barber shop and my experience was great! The shop is very nicely decorated. The staff is extremely nice and friendly. All my worries about getting a bad haircut went away as soon as Ashlie started cutting my hair. Ashlie was extremely patient with me and figured out exactly what I wanted out of my haircut and gave me exactly that. To top it off, Ashlie’s got jokes! She made me laugh and allowed me to feel comfortable during my haircut. I recommend everybody give this shop a try, you can thank me later: p
There was only a 5 min wait when I got there, you can call ahead and have your name put down on the list before you arrive, if you’re in a rush.

Ashlie did it again! As long as Ashlie is working here, this will be my go to barber shop. Stoked to go to on my trip to Egypt and show off my haircut.

This was my first time here. I live in southern california and have had my hair cut by the same guy for 3 years, and until now I haven’t found anyone in the bay area who comes close. They did just as good a job if not better here. I get a medium clipper on the sides faded up to a longer combover on the top, and my really straight hair will clearly show any errors with blending.
The girl here did it perfectly. She really took her time and went over everything until it was perfect. She smelled like she had had a drink or two on her break, but she did a great job on my hair, soI really couldn’t care less. Price was really reasonable too at $ 25 for both hair and beard trim. I will definitely be back.

Great haircut. The wait was a little long since they do not take appointments. It would be nice if they did though because I would request Ashely. Not only did she do, what I consider, a perfect haircut but also gave me advice and local tips on Berkeley since I just moved here a couple weeks ago.
For an inexpensive and good haircut go here.
They also have beer.

This is one of the best Barber Shops in North Berkeley to get spiffed-​up at. They are more than Barbers & Hairstylists, they are Artists who take great pride in their work. All are exceptional.

Can’t say enough good stuff about Isha.
Isha did an awesome job day #1 with a conservative trim. I felt so comfortable in her hands that I came back the next day to go shorter. Leaving with a sassy long bob (lob?) and perfect natural looking highlights.
The Shop is clean and well organized. Everyone is super friendly and attentive.
I love the call ahead/​walk in system. Makes it easy to fit into my schedule.
I will be back!

This place is amazing. I was afraid to get a hair cut here because I usually have my friends cut my hair, but it was time for some professional help.
I had Paul give me a little trim, but the best part was the whiskey! Yep. As soon as I sat in the salon hair I was offered some delicious whiskey.
Paul and I talked at length about best hair practices, how to add bright splashes of funky color to hair, what kind of hair oil he likes and he told me all about his life as a traveling stylist.
I left feeling like I did have a friend cut my hair afterall, and without a huge dent to my pocketbook too.

The whole setup will remind you of Rudy’s Barbershop in LA.
