The Richard Jennings Voice Studio

I walked into Richard Jenning’s Voice Studio a year ago without knowing how to be a solo singer and I’ve developed a total sense of control over and direction with my performing through Richard’s thorough instruction. I used to be in chorus in Middle School and had complete shyness with singing. These days, I’m confident in my ability to sing «lightly, brightly, and out to a point!» In the lesson, we start with voice exercises at the piano and warm up the vocal chords for about ten minutes. After that, comes a review of songs practiced the week prior as well as some new song material. Richard is a master at putting the reigns in my own vocal’s capacity and allowing me to carry the sound through! He has taught me to bring my vocals forward and right into the keyhole in the piano. He has trained American Idol contestants and Disney TV stars. The depth of Richard’s knowledge of music theory and practice is impressive and his ability to produce in each student the understanding of a clear and consistent tone and flow of lyricism in making music is what makes him stand out from other voice instructors. If you’re willing to learn the art of really making not just beautiful sounds, but emotionally gratifying and cathartic music, come to Rockridge and study underneath Richard! I came in holding back with my vocals and making airy sounds and have learned to hear within my singing for richer tones and more pronounced pitch, but overall the flow of emotions from one charged state to another and the embodiment of a character. In singing, I want to inspire interest in the audience and to truly tell a memorable story, and Richard has been the best influence! :)

Richard is an amazing teacher and phenomenal teacher to work with. He has truly inspired me to become more passionate about music. Without question, lessons with Richard are the highlight of my week. Richard is an absolutely wonderful voice teacher and mentor who truly invests in each of his students. Over the past year he has helped me find a better, clearer, and more impressive sound that is healthier, more consistent, and easier to maintain over long runs of shows. In addition to being a great teacher, he has provided immense professional support and encouragement, sending me casting notices, making himself available to help with audition prep, and giving insightful career advice. Richard is truly a talented vocal teacher and coach. I have studied classically in Vienna, Austria, received my undergrad in Music (voice) and am a musical theatre performer. I take my career and voice very seriously and I do not trust anyone else with it. Richard has helped me grow in so many ways. He is very thorough, patient, caring and above all — knows what he’s doing. I have been training with him for about three years now and looking forward to my continued study with him. I never had voice lessons before and wasn’t sure if I could learn how to project a clear unforced tone. Richard has helped me understand how the voice works and to get my voice out in front of me. Singing has become effortless and unforced and I’m starting to hit ranges that I could never reach, with minimal effort and still producing a clear pleasant tone. I’ve been with Richard for just over a month and I can already hear the change in the way I sing and how clear and smooth the tone is being delivered.
His studio is very private, and you’re totally one on one with no outside distractions. He records every session to CD, which you get to take home.
