St Joseph of Arimathea Collegiate Chapel & Center

I sing for St. Joseph’s quasi-​regularly, so I have a soft spot for this traditional Anglican parish. St. Joseph’s chapel is very small, but the acoustics are wonderful. In certain times of the year, the sun hits the windows just right, so that sun beams are streaming through the church. Those moments are breathtakingly beautiful.
The priest is very nice, and his sermons are down-​to-​earth and accessible. The music is very traditional — hymns, chants, and renaissance/​baroque anthems.
The congregation is very small and the masses start late (11:30 on Sundays). This past Easter, they had about 35 people in attendance. There is a coffee/​tea/​snack gathering for a short while after the service. This is a very intimate space and environment for worship.
St. Joseph’s also has a seminary school, though I’m not too clear on the details. Also, they own a building that they rent out to the UC Berkeley water polo team. Sometimes you’ll see tall, athletic alter boys who look half asleep — that’s where they come from.
