Omar Murad, MD

Dr Murad was the first Endocrinologist on my long list that actually took the time to listen to all I had to say about my life long battle with Hypothyroidism. He listened attentive and asked questions and validated my experience with my body that I know better how it functions when is treated with the right doses of the right medication
He was also able to listen to my complains about other Doctors who didn’t understand what happens to me when I am off the even little doses I need to take to have a functional body free of pain and other debilitating symptoms.
He ordered more tests that any doctor had ordered to check everything that pertains to his specialty not only the TSH as other Doctors had done always, plus a comprehensive panel.
He is sensitive and takes the time needed to get to know the client and his/​her history not like the many previous Doctors I consulted over the years that only were interested on the test result and had no «time» to listen to how I actually felt with the medication they prescribed.
I highly recommend Dr Murad if you are looking for a highly knowledgeable professional.

Dr. Murad is great… I saw him for the first time today and he was knowledgeable, efficient and personable. He listened and engaged in conversation about my condition while going over test results that I provided to him. I feel fortunate to have found him and trust him to provide the best advice and treatment for my condition.

Dr. Murad is an excellent Endocrinologist. After visiting Dr. Murad’s office several times, my own experience has been that both Dr. Murad and his office staff are both friendly and efficient. Also, Dr. Murad has always had an easy way about him as he thoroughly explains all aspects of my health conditions and their treatment. As a result, I am able to participate fully in our course of viable treatment plans, one of my primary goals in engaging with my doctors.
I am very glad that Dr. Murad has his endocrinology practice now within easy reach in our community.

My review is based on a discussion with his receptionist and a very brief discussion with Dr. Murad over the phone. I’m a Hashimoto’s patient who is interested in taking a more integrative approach to treating this thyroid problem. I asked his receptionist if he would be willing to ‘work with’ a naturopathic or osteopathic doctor. He told the receptionist to tell me ‘no’ and when she couldn’t explain why, he got on the phone. We discovered he didn’t understand what I meant by ‘work with,’ meaning basically if I had one of these doctors as my primary care physician would that be OK with him. Even when that was clarified, he didn’t seem to understand what an osteopathic doctor (DO) was (surprising, as there are now 18 DO’s at Kaiser Oakland alone). He also didn’t seem open to any alternative treatments for my thyroid condition, stating that his practice was very Western medicine focused. Alternative diagnostic & treatment methods for thyroid disease (e.g.

) are gaining widespread acceptance, and should definitely be considered if you have a thyroid condition.

Dr Murad was thorough and efficient.
He saw me right away and offered to do the procedure there and then. Brilliant! No further appointments needed.
Weeks later I had a billing question and he got back to me on the same day. That’s what I call service.

«I feel incredibly lucky to have found you,» is what I said to Dr. Murad at my last appointment. I actually found him through Unilocal reviews! He is very easy to talk with and is thorough and un-​rushed in appointments. He sent in an order for complete blood work and went over my results in detail. If I had put off seeing him, I would have ended up a very sick person in the near future.
I have seen another endocrinologist and the difference in care is pretty profound. I had to bring my kids with me to the last appointment with Dr. Murad, and while the office is quiet and clean, they were really accommodating. There is a small kitchen off to the side for guests to help themselves to nuts, granola bar, water and coffee. This was great for my kids who love to be fed.
The receptionist is really pleasant and my kids liked her.

Dr. Murad is great. Started seeing him recently for type 2 diabetes. He is personable, knowledgeable, and very helpful. Happy to have found him as a specialist for my diabetes.

Dr. Murad is one of the best doctors I’ve seen. He is kind, efficient, and took the time to listen to what I had to say, and asked significant questions that showed me he really wanted to help me figure out my physical issues. Also, his office space and waiting area is so lovely and comfortable! I highly, highly recommend him.

i have never been inspired to write a review for a doctor. Dr. Murad is my 4^th endocrinologist. I was diagnosed with Grave’s in 2009. My first endo medicated for Graves but my symptoms worsened and I began to gain weight like crazy. Also, my digestion became completely bizarre. My endo ignored my symptoms, told me I was just getting old and I was told Hashimotos was a myth. The next endo told me my numbers looked fine and there was nothing she could do for me. The endo after that told me I definitely had Hashimotos, my antibodies obviously indicated it. Yet, the numbers were not bad enough to medicate. Would continue testing until they got worse. All along the way, my symptoms worsened, making my quality of life a misery and my digestive health in shambles. By the time I reached Dr. Murad, I felt little hope but felt I had not choice but to continue to hunt for someone who could help me. Dr. Murad entered the room relaxed and ready to listen. He neither rushed me or dismissed me. He listened to my endless list of symptoms, the millions of things I had tried, the things I suspected to be problems and my frustrations with my inability to find solutions. He then prescribed medication to try to alleviate symptoms and testing to continue to identify and diagnose. I dont feel he is just medicating to get numbers in range, he is also testing and trying medication to address symptoms. I believe he understands that it doesnt help if numbers are in range and you still feel horrible. For heavens sake, why would anyone even be in the office if their numbers were out of whack but they felt fine? I know in the conventional medical world there are limits to how much doctors can do. But finding one that will listen, work with you on a solution, do testing and try out different things to see what might help — that is something that we should be able to expect. He has personally followed up with me and the attention he has given to my case is remarkable. Dr. Murad is a rare find and I feel lucky to have discovered him.

GREAT. I just started seeing Dr. Murad and I am very pleased. I go for type 1 diabetes. Dr. Murad draws diagrams and provides detailed explanations. Excellent bedside manner, he makes eye contact and always asks if I have questions. We’ve had to make some adjustments to my insulin and he has been readily available along the way, easy communication via email. The medical assistant is very responsive as well, always answers my calls or calls me back right away. The office is great at helping with prescription refills and it’s easy to make appointments. Dr. Murad really partners with you in diabetes management. He’s not judgmental, he’s very nice and assuring. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Berkeley Endocrine Clinic.

First of all, I was asked to show up 15 minutes before my appointment at 1pm and Dr. Murad shows up 15 minutes after 1pm. Not very professional.
The receptionist/​assistant/​nurse who took my vitals was very nice but I was unimpressed by Dr. Murad. During the breakdown of my symptoms I could see from his blank stare that his mind was elsewhere. This was further evidenced by having to repeat several of my symptoms, several times throughout the appointment. Dr. Murad was a nice enough guy and we got along fine (even during our disagreements) but overall I was very disappointed with his service and feel he let his pride get in the way of providing me with uncompromised health care.
Not only do I come from a family of physicians who I consulted, I did my research on my symptoms and I prepared for this visit with a list of several blood tests I was hoping to have performed. Dr. Murad flat out refused to sign off on half of my requests saying he was «not convinced.» Even though the tests would be performed by a 3^rd party and would be paid for by my insurance, Dr. Murad stubbornly refused my continued appeals in what was clearly a petty stand against a bruised ego. He was noticeably put off by my mention of family physicians and told me my «mom shouldn’t be my doctor.» Well she isn’t, but just like I would trust a mechanic friend for advice on car repair I trust my family for advice on personal health.
Overall Dr. Murad gave me inadequate health care because he was too proud to acknowledge the educated opinions of other professionals. I will not be coming back.

Went in for my follow up. He really took his time. My main concern was trying to get my weight down, along with other social/​emotional things and he was super helpful. Truly a great doctor!

This was my first time going to Dr. Murad’s office and I must say it was a really great appointment. I was able to make a walk-​in appointment because of a recent cancellation and the doctor got to me about 5 minutes after my appointment time which is extremely fast for most offices! Dr. Murad was extremely professional and made sure that every question I had was answered. He even took the time to run to the gynecologist’s office to ask a question for me about birth control!
Rosie was also really great and friendly! Dr. Murad had mentioned he would find a dermatologist for me and right when I got home Rosie called to tell me they already found me a doctor and wanted to help me schedule an appointment!
This office really made me feel like I was flying first class because of all the care and attention they were giving me. I would recommend this office to anyone that is in need of an endocrinologist! Plus they have snacks in their break room for patients :)

I came out of my initial appointment with a strong feeling that Dr. Murad knows what it takes to bring out the best in his patients. He has 8 years of experience as an endocrinologist, but his breadth of knowledge spans above and beyond his medical specialty. I would recommend him to anyone looking for an endocrinologist they feel they can work with to improve their health, whatever that means for them.
