MeloMelo Kava Bar

Love this place, it’s my first time trying Kava and the employees are so nice and laid back! I tried the kava colada and it was so yummy! Definitely will be back and try other flavors!

Kava is an acquired taste, but like coffee, wine or beer you get used to it. I now prefer the Purist. It’s so refreshing!
Their kombucha rocks too! Cucumber lemon mint is my all time favorite!
The environment is pretty chill, comfortable and most importantly clean. They have a library of games and books to keep you occupied or you can just bring your own form of entertainment.

This place is a gem! Great location, super easy to find and parking is decent. The vibe in here is on another level. Amazing! Everyone is so nice and super welcoming. They have plenty of seating, lots of bar space and about 5 nice sized couches. It’s so neat and clean! I’m in love with the presentation. The art is colorful and inviting and looks great on the white wall. I come here to enjoy kava and awesome anti stress coloring book. They also have games, puzzles, books and even some pretty good music. (I am very picky when it comes to music.) They even got a projector going with some dope images. I think it’s a great hang out spot to relax and unwind after a long day or enjoy conversation and laughs with a friend. I came alone on my 3^rd visit and enjoyed it just as I did with company. I always leave in a better mood than when I came. I highly recommend this kava bar!

Kava is cool for a subtle head trip and relaxation. It tastes like dirt and I wouldn’t call it the most enjoyable drink out there, but it numbs the lips and throat, and for that it’s one step up from a Saturday night with a chloraseptic bottle. Melomelo is actually a really nice place to try out this drug (face it guys… this is a root with neurochemical properties no matter how you market it). After visiting other Kava bars and being unimpressed by the ambience, I have to tip my hat to Melomelo. The art on the wall, music, and hippyish vibe sets the perfect mood for drinking Kava. Once my taste buds have forgotten the experience here, I will likely return.

Kava is somewhat enjoyable. I think the aftereffects of the kava are definitely an interesting experience that I suggest you all try. Taste-​wise, not the greatest, though they warn you of that beforehand. I do like their kombucha bar, though. I suggest you come here, but bring a Groupon because the cost can definitely make you sweat. Go be mellow.

It tasted literally like dirt, and I had a lot of trouble drinking all of it.
My brother had a strong tongue numbing reaction which was really scary… but they do warn against this…
With that said, it does relax you. Shortly after leaving, I realized how at ease I was.
The venue is beautiful and the people are so cool!
There’s a petition out there to support them doing live events. Sign it! I can’t believe people reported them and asked them to stop…
There’s also a Groupon for both a Kava drink and kombucha tasting. Kombucha tasted much better.
Again, come here with an open mind. It’s for sure going to be a novel experience!

My friends and I came on a Saturday night and had a great time! We used a groupon and got to try the kombucha sampler and one cup of kava. The ambiance and environment was really inviting, sort of like a lounge with purple, bluish lights, and great music. The music was very chill and made me feel really relaxed. My friends and I were told to drink the kava in one gulp because it was bit bitter and not really meant for sipping. After, my friends and I tried the different kombucha flavors and was blown away how good they tasted! I’ve tried bottled kombucha before but these flavors were so much better than the ones I’ve tasted! The «OG» flavor was nice and crisp. There was one that tasted like coffee, another that was more tropical like pineapple, and one that tasted a bit like lychee to me. It was great and I definitely plan to go back again just to hangout with friends and relax!

First time trying Kava! We had a groupon for a kava and kombucha tasting. The vibe was really laid back and friendly.
The kava definitively has a strong taste but it was good! We tried all of them and my favorite was Kava Dreams and Kava Colada.
The kombucha was on tap which was cool. We tried a tasting of four flavored and the tangerine was the best.
The «bartender» was really cool and helpful. We definitely felt the effects of the kava and enjoyed it.

I went with a group. Parking isnt too bad. Love this place! So relaxing! Delicious ! Bartenders are so friendly and helpful. I love looking at the sketchbooks. The price is pretty reasonable. I will try the kombucha next time. I had the kava dreams and it was delightful.
Tip for drinking it. Is to drink it half way and then sip the rest to get the full effects.

As a belated New Years resolution and a personal goal to better myself, I’ve been trying to cut back on the drinking. As much as I enjoy a refreshing, boozy concoction, I tend to make really bad decisions while completely sauced. I have danced on stages, flirted up a storm, and done some other scandalous Girls Gone Wild typa stuff.
Admittedly, I’m still a bit of a wildcard, but I feel like I now have the confidence to have a good time without being falling down drunk.
That’s where MeloMelo comes in. They provide a relaxed social environment without all of the chaos that goes hand-​in-​hand with the bar experience. The staff are really decent folks. Nico (Niko? Nikko?) is a sweetheart and made us feel totally welcomed and appreciated. He really makes this place a gem.
On my first visit, I started with one of the fruitiest, sweetest options, one with pineapple, as I heard that kava tasted a bit like dirty water. It was delicious! It left my lips with a pleasant tingle, and my muscles felt relaxed. I felt a great natural high.
On my second visit, I decided to step it up a notch and try the ginger one. Awesome!
The Purist is the most basic, but it does indeed have a very distinct taste. I am a sipper and not a chugger or a gulper, but there was a special buy one, get one free on Valentine’s Night, so I went through four shells of the Purist. My friend and I found a kindly, slightly older couple to play Cards Against Humanity with us. Thanks for the laughs, you guys. Hope our paths cross again real soon-​like.
I am absolutely enamored with this kava bar and hope to see more of them around the Bay Area and other cities.

MeloMelo couldn’t be a more accurate way to describe the feeling you’ll have after a few coconut shells of kava here. I came with little to no knowledge of the magical properties of this elixir and left on a higher plane of existence.
I knew I was in for something special when I walked in to see so many smiling faces greeting me alongside a very focused meditation group by the bar. It has all the bar atmosphere you love without the sloppy stumbling patrons.
Every review covers this thoroughly but, in case this happens to be the first one you read, here’s the quick and dirty kava lowdown. Kava is a tea made by grinding the root of the kava plant. It produces mild psychoactive effects causing you to feel a relaxed, euphoric, and ultra positive. Apparently also a great anti-​anxiety/​anti-​depressant.
You can order it in its simplest and purest form or with some mixers to cut the taste. Think yerba mate — water with dirt and twigs. Mate drinkers won’t have any issue drinking the pure stuff. All others may prefer it mixed with coconut water. If you don’t want to deal with the taste you can also go for one of the sweeter more palatable mixed versions, like kava dreams, which is orange flavored kava extract with cinnamon and coconut milk — a kava creamsicle.
If you’re not in the mood for kava, they serve kombucha on tap and you can even get a flight.
If you want to stick to kava but want to dive even deeper (into your subconscious), don’t stop at the drinks. They have kava candies and snacks here too.

MeloMelo is shaking up the game with Kava cocktails. If you’re a first timer, I’d recommend trying the purist so you get a sense as to what Kava tastes like. Drinking too much doesn’t really have any euphoria or dizziness like alcohol. Instead it lulls you into a sedated state in which your bed beckons you home, or you can fight it and stay to play some board games (they have quite a selection).
Overall, a pretty relaxed place. The lighting is purple, there seems to be a perpetual haze, and they have the deep house on repeat. The bartop is a solid piece of wood, and rustic décor adorns the walls while a projector plays recaps from Animal Planet. Sound boho enough for you? It does tend to attract some weirder crowds, but your mileage may vary.
In an effort to reach a wider audience, they also serve Kombucha brews on tap which all tasted incredibly good. Flights are available.
Overall very nice people. I wish they focused a bit more on where they source their kava from, if they process it themselves, etc.

This place was everything I enjoyed.
Loungey, artsy, deep house music, and positive vibes. I have known much about kava kava and its benefits for a long time. I know that its used by islanders to drink during weddings, ceremonies, and celebrations. For a long time, I felt kava kava could be a healthier alternative to drinking alcohol for people. For there to be a kava kava bar is definitely unique and something of the future! I always wondered how cool it would be if there to be kava kava bars, and whaddayaknow! The kava kava drinks we ordered were tasty and were served in bamboo cups which made the experience traditional and fun. Our drinks were both tasty and flavored. It was like ordering a hand crafted mixology drink, but instead a hand crafted kava drink. It was such a cool experience! To make it even cooler, promoting hand crafted Kombucha drinks on tap gave the bar such a healthy new age feel. They even offered kombucha flights served like beer samplers and flights youd see at a brewery! so cool. Get those probiotics! Our bartenders were super chill and helpful with our orders. Its nice to see something different becoming this new age’s trend. Keep up the good work guys. Wish we had something like that in my area.

Kava was something I saw on Booze Travelers and was curious about this «euphoric» experience that others have been Unilocaling about. I mean, a drink that’s not alcoholic and gives you warm feels? Let me try this out.
First things first, you’re not gonna get buzzed. The feeling is more like a numb feeling in your throat and a relaxed temperament. I appreciate the Purist and the second drink that has coconut water. We also tried a few other flavors and found them to be a bit too sweet.
The flight of kombucha was alright but wasn’t my cup of tea. Of the five I only liked perhaps one. I’ll have to come back again!

Out of the world experience, literally.
First time trying Kava and I nearly hit the snooze button!
If you feel adventurous, than come on over. The Bartender was friendly and will guide you through if needed.
However, don’t come expecting to get high because they do not serve any alcohol. Just Kava and Kombucha.
Note it is a lounge-​y place where wide variety of boardgames are at your group’s disposal.

I was rolling with a Posse of Unilocalers and we ended up at Melo Melo Kava bar.
They do not serve Alcoholic Beverages of any type here .
They serve Kava Root Extract .
It has a Lip Numbing, Mood Altering Effect .
It really Mellows you out and will actually help you sleep better.
The Bad It tastes like Muddy Water LOL.
It is served with a Chunk Of Pineapple to help with the Muddy Water Taste .
They play relaxing Videos and have Soft Muted light.
There are also Couchs you can chill out in .
It was an interesting experience but not my Cup Of Tea.

I never heard of Kava until a few hours before I went to this place. My friend’s friend knows one of the owner and invited us to try it.
Ambience: Décor reminds me of the MOMA museum. They have couches and a great selections of board games. Crowd was mostly young, college students and people in their 20s.
Service: Rami, one of the owners, was so friendly and welcoming. He gave us a history about Kava and walked us through the process from how to drink it, to how it would taste.
Kava: We first had the traditional Kava, and I will not lie, it tasted so weird. But immediately you start to feel almost a bit numb and relaxed. I then had the coconut water one and this one tasted a little better. I also tried the Chai and Pina Colada one, which tasted sweeter.
This is such a cool new concept and I would love to come back.
We need one of these in NYC!

I don’t give many 5’s but I could not help it! This place is well deserving. Not only did I learn how to toast with the «bartenders» (Bula!) but I got to taste the purist, which is what they were known for! It’s made from the kava kava plant, so it was earthy and not very pleasing to the taste buds unless you like the taste of dirt. But that’s not why you drink it. You drink it in order to lower anxiety and achieve relaxation!
The bartenders were very knowledgeable about the plant and I felt like they made the perfect recommendation for first timers such as myself. Everyone feels differently, so don’t worry if you start feeling tingling in your lips and tongue because it’s only temporary. Just make sure not to have alcohol after you drink it because they have the same effects and it’s definitely not something you want. I feel the calming and relaxing effects as I write this review. It feels great. Can’t wait to go to bed!

This place is interesting! I feel like you could chill here for hours and not realize the time gone by. I colored for 2 hours. I also love the cubbies on the wall and the disco lights.
I tried the coconut kava which I liked a lot better than just regular. We also had something more concentrated that I’m not sure which one it was. I want to try the Dreams one! I like that you get pineapple slices kind of as a chaser.
Kava makes your mouth numb and apparently I was talking fast after. it’s quite an experience!

My first experience at Melo Melo was with my Unilocal friends at a Unilocal event.
I didn’t have any idea what Kava was but I have to admit I was thinking about it every day since the day I left. I recently came back to experience the lovely taste again and it was such a pleasure to see the workers again!
Kava is a plant. It’s a mix between coffee and alcohol. It doesn’t give you that drunk or tipsy feeling but rather more of a relaxer. This drink helps people with insomnia and anxiety and I am totally fine with that, especially with my HIGH energy. HAHA
If you’re not into the Kava drinks that have the kombucha flight drinks (5 different flavors) and they taste so good! The taste is like: sparkling, sour, and slightly sweet. Depending on the added flavors, it can even taste fruity, floral, spicy, or herbaceous. (It’s a must try!)
The Kava bar is SO unique, the Coconut shells really gives it the amazing touch to the business!
The venue is beautiful and spacious. 15 seats at the bar area and couches in the back to lounge around. During the time I was there I was able to see Nico making the kava which was very impressive to me!
At night, the lovely lights come on and the screen on the wall really gives this place a lovely look.
The workers: Liam, Rami and the amazing Nico are totally friendly and amazing! I am guaranteed that you will have a great experience here and meet tons of people that are trying Kava for there first time as well! :)
