LifeLong Medical Care

I am having a hard time understanding the bad reviews. I have just started my prenatal care here with Dr Simon and she is very personable and the entire staff has at some point gone above and beyond to bring forward genuinely kind and outstanding customer service. I had a prenatal apt today and forgot to mention my on and off tooth pain I have been having for months… I ate dinner and it was throbing! I immidiatley came back to Life Long even though it was 5 minutes til closing, because in order to be seen the next morning I needed a doctor note. The front desk lady made a call upstairs to my OB which she didn’t need to do and stayed to help me get this note from my doctor (who also didn’t need to give me the letter right then either) I felt cared for and heard. I’m thrilled to be coming to this establishment for all my prenatal visits!

Really sucks to read all the one star reviews on this business because it is a really good place. The place is located on the corner of 6^th street. Parking here can be a hassle here so come early to find a spot. As far as the office, it a two story building and over the years that I have been here they have gone through several remolds which is great! All of the staff here is really knowledgeable and really kind. The waiting is rather large with lots of seating, this is great because it does get busy. Overall I’ve always had good experiences at this office and always have received great medical service. Don’t let the other one star reviews fool you!

I have used the medical services of Lifelong, off and on, for over 10 years. They are cheap. That is about all the good I can say. When you are needy, they are here. Otherwise, it is the ER.
The main problem I have found with them is the support staff. medical records are confused, appointments are lost, staff is rude, bossy, vindictive, and petty. Instead of trying to be helpful, I have found staff who would much rather fight to make sure you know that everything is your fault.
Recently, I discovered three drugs listed in my records as drugs which I am allergic to. One I have never heard of, two I have never taken, and one I am not allergic to and I needed but they would not prescribe it since it was listed as one that I am allergic to. A while back, I had docs make appointments for me without asking me, and the staff schedule them without telling me. I missed them. I once scheduled 4 appointments in a row to see my doctor, and each time I showed up, the appointment did not happen. Once, I waited 3 hours before I was told the doctor was not even in the office.
I could go on and on, but suffice to say, if you need to use them, they are here, but if you can avoid it, find another place to go.

I swear that I only come here for the ridiculous stories. Today’s adventure: parking lot is still closed, parking lot across the street is full, and I didn’t have any quarters for the old meters. Had to drive around for 15 minutes until I found some street parking. Sigh. I guess if I went to Kaiser, I’d get stuck paying by the hour to park in their garage.
Anyway… check in for the appt, and then stop to use the restroom. Stall is totally out of toilet paper. Sigh.
Go into the room, wait for doctor. Shows up late, and then rushes my appt. I get it. I work with doctors who are given tiny windows to see patients, but it’s still frustrating when you realize that you’ll have to make additional appts for any/​everything else.
Time to leave, so I walk out a door clearly marked ‘exit’. I double check to make sure it’s not a weird emergency exit. nope. So I walk down the stairs. Final door says ‘exit only’, so I open it and walk outside. Door shuts (and locks) behind me, and then I walk a few feet to realize that i am TRAPPED. No really. This ‘exit’ leads to an area that is completely fenced in. I look around, try some doors, but everything is locked. I finally walk through the dirt filled front yard where I can see the construction guys. They don’t see me (and I there doesn’t appear to be any gap in the fence on their end either)
I pound on some doors. I pound on some windows. I try calling (haha!), and then I walk around the front yard some more, and luckily find a door that was left unlocked. Made it in and told the front desk. They tell me «you aren’t supposed to go out that door»
I AM NOT SUPPOSED TO USE THE DOOR THAT CLEARLY SAYS ‘EXIT’?

I like all employees they are very nice and good service. Every time when I went there never make me feel down or angry at all

If there was a negative rating I would like to choose it for life long medical care.
There are no appointments available within month, even it is important you need to wait for a month.
The doctor is not available in the appointed time and you need to wait for more than a hour .
Doctor services are so pathetic. I would not recommend this service to anyone

Our appointment was at 2:30 and it’s been 55 mins.
All we needed was a referral for my son’s foot-​which may be fractured.
Even after telling them we had already seen another doctor (at our old practice) and already had an X-​ray taken, they still required that we come in before they would approve a referral to the orthopedist-​who we already know and is familiar with my son.
It’s been a remarkable waste of time and our appointment could have gone to someone else who needed it.
This practice needs to review their processes. Extremely inefficient.
On a positive note, the guy at the front desk was very polite and accommodating.

The doctor I saw was really helpful but it’s frustrating when you get tests done and they say you will get the result in x amount of days and end up taking a lot longer than stated.

i joined lifelong medical on 6^th st and i have gottin great medical service both with the nueses and my np. he made all appts, and keep them he ordered all tests for me. he orders all drugs. LIFELONG MEDICAL is great!!!

I have been a patient at Life Long Medical for years and have found them to be very helpful. I’ve struggled with low paying jobs — making too much for Medi-​Cal but often not enough to buy food. Life Long Medical has helped with my medical issues, helped me to figure out that my job was creating a great deal of mental stress, and also helped with education, exercise classes, and free food. The people have always been helpful and seemed concerned. Many services are not available in clinics but they always are able to refer me to other agencies.
As far a Medical goes, the system is way behind. I applied for my husband in February and heard nothing until about October. The state assured me they had been flooded with applications and unable to process them in a timely manner. After sending in volumes of required documentation, my husband was denied.
I really don’t think it is the fault of the clinics that the health care moved so slowly. New processes are confusing and take time to figure out. I went to many community meetings over Covered California and found that even those providing answers were not always informed. Now, I’m pretty sure I have it figured out and am settled with heath care for the both of us that we can barely afford. But without the help of Covered California we would be without any insurance.
Thank you Life Long Medical for serving the poor folks of the area. Without your help, I would have had no medical resources and just one illness or injury away from disaster.

I came here to apply for Medi-​Cal since I was directed here by some colleagues when I told them I was moving to Alameda. The first issue I had with them was when I scheduled the appointment to apply for Medi-​Cal. I came in at 9 AM as we had scheduled but once I arrived I was told that they were having a meeting at this time and to come back at 10 AM. I wasn’t too pleased considering I had other things planned in the morning.
As of now, this happened back in April. I was told that if I needed to go to the doctor before I received a clearance through Medi-​Cal to just call them and they will direct me to where I could go to get the services I need. I did this multiple times, where most of the time I ended up just getting directed to several people with no one telling me anything or leaving a voicemail on the messaging machines to get no call backs. On top of that, it is now August and I STILL haven’t received anything by Medi-​Cal. When I’ve checked on my application they’ve told me they have nothing on file, though I know it has been processed cause I’ve received letters in the mail. When I contacted the people here who I applied through I received no assistance with this either because (again) I never got a call back or was about to talk to a person who could give me any direction or insight.

The worst customer service ever coupled with medical malpractice-​worthy staff.

here’s my story. i can’t imagine it will change anything, but i certainly hope it will.
I was too poor to be eligible for Affordable Care Act, so I was directed to Medi-​Cal (our state’s implementation of Medicaid, I think). I applied like six times online and nothing ever happened. I found out I could just go to a clinic and get the paperwork done there, and that would be easier; so, I tried to go to these guys, since they were listed on the website.
At first it wasn’t bad – they did the paperwork in front of me, said I would have a good plan. After it was done they told me to come back in a month. I do’nt really know why. I guess it takes that long. When I came back they said they’d lost my paperwork and they started over. Then they said I should wait in the mail for some information from the county. did I have health insurance yet? They said no, not really. Okay.
Then, a week later, I got in a bike accident and fractured a bone. I didn’t have health insurance, so I had to pay $ 200 out of pocket for an x-​ray. I need to see an ortho, but have no idea how to do so affordably.
I have slipped through the cracks, and it is because of these fucking incompetent idiots I sit here in pain, without insurance, and no way to rectify and no timeline. Fuck them with every pointy thing in the world. I hate them to no end.

For the last five years I have used the Lifelong clinic at the downtown Oakland location for my health needs, and even though I have a legitimate need for medication, I have been repeatedly treated like a «pill seeker». This is not the place to go if you need anything serious, like if you really really need help, don’t go here. They will treat you horribly, change your appt without telling/​asking you, constantly give you the runnaround. There is no such thing as professionalism, especially with the receptionists who are by far the most cantankerous people I have ever encountered in a medical setting. This place will make you choose to ignore your health rather than ask them for help.

I have been increasingly frustrated with the poor communication at the Lifelong Clinic at Foothill Square the young ladies there present as selfish and into their own thing and the public is a nuisance to their spaces which translate to mistreatment and poor customer service a patient and a health professional.
