Just like the other liquor stores in the area, this place’s price are high, but unlike other stores around, they stock some of the best craft beers around. Also, it’s pretty cool that they allow you to buy singles of each beer; so you don’t have to waste money on a bad beer.

I had a so-so experience here, but I probably would not return here. This liquor store is located right across from the Ashby Bart station. They had a pretty good selection of chilled wine and I ended up with a bottle of Barefoot Moscato for $ 6.99, which is cheaper than Target. The cashier wasn’t particularly friendly and some of the people can seem sketch. They do accept credit cards for purchases greater than $ 10 and debit cards for anything less.

I worked there long ago when a student at Cal and I can attest that the photo shown is not accurate.

I have had several bad experiences with this liquor store. Yes, they are the most conveniently located liquor store for me, as they are right off Ashby BART, but I will never go back despite the location. The first awful experience I had was about a month ago. I was paying for my beer(Anchorsteam Summer Brew), and I handed the clerk – who I believe is the owner – a $ 20 bill. He mumbled a question about $ 1 bills, and I told him that he could give me back my change however he wanted. He then looked at me with a grimace, and very rudely yelled, «No. Do you HAVE any one dollar bills.» I said, «No, I don’t have any one dollar bills,» and then he mocked me by repeating what I said in a very high-pitched, offensive tone. It was completely uncalled for, especially since I was a patron of his store. My second terrible experience was not my own. I was with my friend who was purchasing beer, and the same man – I believe the owner – rang us up. I watched him put in the correct price, and then I watched him put in the tax. This is normal. But then, for no reason at all, he punched in another 30 cents into the register, after he had already tacked on the tax. It was really seedy. Bottom line: This liquor store is terribly run by very shady business practitioners. Take the extra time to find another establishment. You’ll be glad you did.

Crummy little store, rude, dirty, and nothing to choose from. Prices at the register are higher than at the shelf.

This place is scary. On the few occasions I’ve been inside, I worry I am going to be mugged. It does hold some fond memories, however, because in the 1960s it was one of the few stores which sold comic books.

sooooooo many nites of sin and debauchery started with a trip to the black and white… ahhhhhhh, the hangovers… They have a decent selection of um, personal sized servings of your major booze of choice. And there are snacks of the salty, sweet and frozen varieties.

I found a dusty bottle of 1997 Stag’s Leap cab on their back shelf for $ 15. The regulars are not into unfortified wines.

Ah… black and white liquor. They seem to either be renovating or closed indefinitely. Someone told me they got into a bit of trouble with the police when they raided it and found 180 pot plants and an assortment of guns upstairs. I hope they open again. Even though the employees look stoned all the time they are actually pretty friendly. Prices aren’t too bad and they are usually open till 1:30, I think the latest out of any of the area liquor stors.
