Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

Amazing, Beautiful, Artistic. Went to the Performance on a Sunday with a Full house, sold out show @ Zellerbach Hall. The kids and I were just fascinated by all of the dancers, just amazing. This was the first time that my son (8) and I saw them perform and we both loved it, my daughter had seen them in past with the school. The snack bar and intermissions were well set up to order prior and pick up at intermission with your name on tag of items purchased at tables in front of snack bar. I would have liked to see more options of Ailey items for purchase although I did purchase some. It was really great, We will definitely see them next time they come to town.

AMAZING AND GORGEOUS. This is dance as an art form at its best for dancers such as myself and the general public that knows how to appreciate dance. They defy gravity, typical human ability all with grace and strength. I have seen them several times and I am always in awe. Revelations… always wonderful, time after time. I did see ‘Firebird’ and even a non-​dancer I was with thought it looked «sloppy» as well. Even so, the individual dancers were beautiful and oozed talent. I leave a performance always wanting to be a better dancer and inspired. They know how to move their ideally formed bodies, their extensions, pirouettes, leaps… all movement with perfection. Go an you won’t regret it!

So I went to see this on Sat. and was blown away. I was really exhausted so I spent the intermissions napping but during the performances I was wide awake trying to make sure I saw all the wonderful movements. This show is all kinds of fineness, fine people, fine dancing, fine venue. We were up in the balcony but I had the privilege of borrowing Stormi’s binoculars and I tell you what, those dancers are cut, both men and women. They were graceful, strong, and beautiful. Stunning and athletic modern dance performance by this renowned NY based troupe. The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater continues to thrill audiences with its energetic, compelling performances, earning a reputation as the most acclaimed ambassador of American culture, promoting the uniqueness of black cultural expression and the preservation and enrichment of the American modern dance heritage.
The program was broken down into 4 main performances. Hard to describe but each was unique and the choreography was exhilarating. The dancers are built like Olympic class athletes and twist, turn, twirl, jump, leap, and run like the wind. Some of their skills were mind blowing.
Highly recommended if you get the chance to see them. They come annually at this time to the Cal campus, and suggest you get tickets way in advance as they sell out all performances.
