My girlfriend and I recently moved to the area and Googled Animal Shelters in the area. Berea Animal Rescue Fund was one of the few ones that was open on Sundays when we were looking for another dog. We made the trip to Berea and were really pleased with the staff and how they cared for the animals. It is really reassuring to see staff at animal shelters that are involved because they want to find homes for the animals and not just turn a profit. Berea Animal Rescue Fund also separates the cats and the dogs which I am sure the animals prefer(especially the cats). While my girlfriend and I did not find another dog during our first trip, I know we will keep checking back to help a dog find a home. The staff was very friendly, helpful and did not rush us through the facilities. They took the time to show us and talk about each dog they had available as well as answer some unrelated questions about being a younger dog owner. The staff was also very open to helping us through the adoption process like the option of a meet-and-greet with our current dog to ensure the dogs get along. They also have a 7-day return policy. It is rare to find animal shelters that accept returns if your new animal does not work out as you planned like Berea Animal Rescue Fund.

Full disclosure — I’m an unpaid volunteer at Berea ARF but even if I weren’t, I’d give it 4 paws up. Berea ARF is a no time limit shelter primarily run by a small staff and a huge army of volunteers. As a volunteer, I can say that the people I work with are THE best. We all love animals and choose to be there because we want to help homeless furry companions find forever homes. I live much closer to other shelters but choose to volunteer in Berea because it’s clean, well run, and most important to me — cats and dogs are housed in separate buildings. I have nothing against Fido, but I’m more of a crazy cat lady, and it’s nice to get to volunteer in an all cat building. I’m sure it’s less stressful for the animals, too. So whether you’re looking to add a furry friend to your family or you’re looking for a fun volunteer opportunity, check out Berea ARF!
