Fishing Creek Lodge B & B Grocery

After a hitting the road at 5:15AM, a long drive, and hours of hiking the spectacular Fall at Rickett’s Glen State Park, we were hungry and tired, and looking forward to the kind of warm, welcoming experience we’ve enjoyed at previous B&B’s.
Sharon (who lives onsite) was present upon our arrival Sat afternoon, and after scribbling the lodge tel number on a scrap of paper to we could relay it to a fellow hiker whose wife was ill, left for the rest of the day.
It was downhill from there…
No towels had been set out for us. The communal bathroom had one partial set of towels on the sink, but for whom? A matching washcloth was on floor next to toilet. Yuchh! No indication where additional towels might be found. No closet or shelves in the bathroom.
Our room was cold and I could find no evidence of a heat source. NO HEAT in the room! Sub-​freezing temperatures outside, but no heat in the room. And the owner, Karen, said nothing about that when the reservation was made.
Bed linens did not appear fresh. My wife slept fully clothed, and would not put blanket over her. I was less concerned. At least I used the blankets.
There was no electrical outlet close enough to the bed for my needed medical device. Not good!
One bed’s mattress was so worn/​thin that my 100# wife sunk to the springs instantly.
The old TV (in the common room) was not sharp, and we were unable to get it to display the old DVD found.
Both computer and monitor were «on», but the monitor remained dark.
With no cell service or internet service, we felt isolated and at risk. The only link to the outside was the single house telephone on the wall, which we felt would be OK in an emergency, but we didn’t want to run up long distance charges for owner, or us.
No signs or instructions regarding operation, procedures, resources, etc were found.
And being alone all afternoon and evening, there was nobody we could ask to help.
Without cell service, I couldn’t bring up the website to find Karen’s number. All I had was the number to the lodge that Sharon scribbled on a scrap of paper before she left.
Given everything we experienced and Karen’s failure to mention that there is no heat in the room she gave us, that she left no notes (for us or other guests) explaining where to find towels, blankets, heaters, extension cords; how to operate her DVD player or computer, how to connect to her Wi-​Fi, we believe she just doesn’t care very much about her guests’ comfort or safety.
Overall, the worst by far lodging experience we’ve ever had, and an extremely disappointing experience. One we have no intention of repeating.
PS. When we came down Sunday morning, two lovely women, who were helping out in Karen’s absence, discovered that towels were still in the washer or drier. They also opened the door to the adjoining «store» (closed for winter apparently) and showed me they had WI-​Fi. They could only commiserate with the lack of heat, electronics issues, etc.
Karen herself is unapologetic for the shortcomings and deficiencies. We apparently should have known where she keeps things. Nobody else ever complained (she claims) because her rates are so cheap. (We cancelled another reservation for $ 5 more per night to be closer to fellow hikers. That extra drive would have been FAR preferable to the miserable night spent at Fishing Creek Lodge B&&B.

Their breakfast is amazing! It felt like it was made with love. The owner is super nice and sweet. It’s reasonably priced. For two breakfasts, $ 11 not including tip. Make sure you go through the second door if you’re not staying at the B&B. And it’s also a small bait shop too!

This week we had the privilege of staying in this wonderful abode. If you want to feel like you’re at great aunt sue’s or grandma’s, look no further.
Clean, extremely hospitable, well stocked and overall extremely comfortable, welcoming environment.
Highly recommended for a relaxed, comfortable stay without worrying about sanitation, oops I forgot my soap, clean towels, etc… it’s all there!
You cannot beat the rate for the quality of the lodge. Once again, thank you!
