They don’t have digital x rays (yes, even in the year 2016), which are 10x less radiation, which is important, especially when they’re shooting it at your head. They wouldn’t give me a cleaning and visual exam, forcing me to get more toxic non digital xrays, even though I had transferred xrays that were only 1.5 years old. This is just to make sure I have no gum disease and to get my teeth cleaned to get my braces at my orthodontist. Twice I came down on my appointment days, and twice I was sent away for the same issue. Also the waiting room badly needs updating, the décor at the Bend location is literally from 1983. They get additional 1 star for having very short appointment wait times (1 week vs 6 with other OHP insurance dental clinics).

So I got a new job a few months ago and, whaddaya know, I have dental benefits again! I booked my new patient appointment just last week and was seen today! They actually offered me a same day appointment. Who does that?! Most dentists book new patients out months, or at least that’s been my experience… I take pretty good care of my teeth anyway but it has been over three years since I was last in the chair…
I have to be honest, I’m not scared of the dentist except for when they’re yanking on my cheeks trying to get pictures and what not… but I was just a tad nervous to tell the hygienist, Lisa, that it’s been this long since my last cleaning. She was great! She didn’t make me feel guilty for being away for so long and she was super personable and friendly throughout the entire visit. It was like chatting with a good friend. Ashley was quite nice too. She took my ex-​rays.
I was surprised a bit by the rave reviews of my mouth during the exam. I was diagnosed with periodontal disease by my last dentist in Portland… I still have some gum recession, but my gums and jaw are looking solid according to the dentist, Dr. Van Den Bundt, I believe is his name.
I just want to commend the staff for the welcoming, low-​pressure experience I received at today’s visit. I really enjoyed my time there… Somebody slap me! I must be dreaming. I have a feeling this is going to be a great relationship.
